most people know russell brand right? well he was hosting the oscars or some other award show lately.

so in his podcast someone asked what did you get in your gift package for hosting? Russel said he got a wiiiiiiii!!!!

the guy asked whats a wii? and russel said... "its a playstation type thing for playing games on." and that is why the ps3 will never fail.

The "casual" mind set I suppose. The Playstation name has been the word for videogames for nearly a decade now.

yeh, playstation is very very well known, though wiis unusal and weird name makes it more eye catching and thats why i feel changed it from Revolution to wii. By the end of this gen, nintendo will more known.

Consoles are called playstations and handhelds are called gameboys. It will probably be that way for a while.

All my family does it, they don't know the difference between playstation 1,2, n64, GC, xbox, wii, 360, they'll just go around my room asking how much did that Nintendo cost you, or you bought another Nintendo there was even a thread about this in the Wii forum it was quite funny.

So... a guy buys a Wii, but the PlayStation will never fail? I love the logic! Therefore, if 100 million people buy a Wii, Sony will repeat the PS2 success!

And yet in the popular media, as in movies, TV shows, and news articles, they refer to the Xbox much more than the Playstation. If the PS name was so hot, why aren't the sales?
Names don't sell systems, and the people who don't know what a Wii is are not the people who buy systems anyway.

Yup. Especially back in the NES and SNES games, Nintendo was pretty much used as a synonym for 'video games'. As in, "Wanna come over to my house and play Nintendo?"

Oh wow, that guy is an idiot. (Not speaking about the OP) I mean, if "Playstation" is lingo for "videogame system" then what he said doesn't make sense. It's a videogame system for playing games on. Mr. Obvious, that's like someone asking me what is a Photon Generator and I say "It is a device that generates Photons".

Heh, I remember when Nintendo was practically the definition of video games/consoles. If someone said Nintendo, you knew it meant something about video games. Times change and nothing in this world is a for sure.

Heck my mom still does this. She use to call everything Nintendo now she calls everything playstation. I'll know if the Xbox has taken over the market when she starts calling everything an Xbox.

I fail to see your point. Just because they recognise playstation doesn't mean they think it's any good; or else why hasn't the PS3 been the fastest seller of all time?

My mom use to too. She even bought me a ColecoVision game for it once LOL. She had no idea they were different machines. All she knew was it was a video game.

my god thats annoying. My parents dont know the difference between Xbox - playstation - nintendo or PC games. My dad just says "Well, im sure game companies meant for this to happen and made it so theres some way to play games on different things". and i got grounded for a week for saying "Well dad, thats the stupidest thing i have heard this week" He thinks i called him stupid.... outloud.
