As you know, GTA IV could be bigger than 9GB but R* wants more money so it must make GTA IV for x 360 either. DVD is death. That is why PS3 will win the next generation.25-Automatic
those 2 sentences contradict each other. you say "ps3 will win because it has the nextgen disc format" but then you precede it with "rockstar is still making the same great game for the xbox360 even though it has an older disc format"

Even Tetris could be bigger than 9GB. If you want it to be.
I bet GTA4 won't be even close to filling av DVD9. Remember GTA SA was just 4GB. For the PC version. And that version has textures at a higher resolution than both PS3 and Xbox 360 will need.
A developer doesn't spend tons of money just to make lots of extra content 'because they have available space'. That's not the way it works at all. Â
did the devs actually blame the dvd9 disc for the 360?
there are loads of reasons for making it smaller. disc capacity could be one of them certainly. or they could have reduced the size so that they could keep loading to a minimum. perhaps next gen consoles cant deal with anything bigger (or they can but r* need more time to figure it out so gta4.2 will be bigger). or it could simply be a matter of cost. judging by the recent teaser clip, those buildings would have cost a fortune to produce.
it could be logistics....perhaps there thinking that making it too big would be pointless. it could be a game design decision. There are an absolute ton of reasons for making the game smaller, dvd9 being one possible reason. personally id put it down to costs. GTA4 is going to cost a fortune to make.Â

R* knows DVD is death. But R* wants more money So they should make GTA IV for 10,000,000 Xbox 360 users. So the way was making a small map and took of planes, boats and ...

GTA San andreas was 4.97. It is 5GB

okay even if that were true, wouldn't that mean dvd is still a viable option? if you can make money off of it, it's probably still aliveÂ
You know what will be funny, when the 360 version looks better than the PS3 version.
What will cows say then about Blu-ray and disk size?. Remember it's the 360 version Rockstar first showed to the world, not your precious PS3 Blu-ray version, I wonder why? could it be that all multiplatform games seem to look "better" on 360? mmm I think that's it.
You've got to remember cows that lemmings can turn around and say your weak assed GPU and RAM are the reason why Rockstar dropped flying from the game. Maybe it's your version that's holding back the 360 version?.God this is petty stuff man can't we all just get the **** along and play the games?. Sheesh it's getting boring.

Â
Take away 1.5gb and thats how big SA was. Lets face it, Motorstorm was exclusive on Blu-ray and it only had 8 maps and barely anything else. ResistanceFOM wasnt even that long in anyway and it was exclusive to blu-ray.
Â
Â
Also take into account that compression gets better and the Xbox 360 can compress a lot better and faster than last gen.Â

"Both versions of the game (Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3) will likely be identical, but the Xbox 360 version will have exclusive downloadable episodic (sizeable) content. Rockstar have now spent over 3 years developing the game, and Dan Houser compares the leap from GTA III to GTA IV, to the leap from GTA to GTA III."
then explain why companies are porting all thier games from ps3 to 360 and not vice versa?

If that's all you base your opinion on for "Winning the console wars" then you've got a lot to learn.
Its not the graphics that make a game. Its the gameplay.
Last I looked Nintendo Wii was out selling PS3 about ten fold.

no i got it right. Not ur got it backwards...great example: call of duty 3
So you say that Rockstar is limiting themselves to the 360 because that's the way to make more money, and then say that the PS3 will win. Aren't those statements contradictory?
Anyway, extra disc space means nothing unless you pay more for artists to fill it. With game production costs already skyrocketing, I don't see studios producing 3-4x the assets for such a limited share of the market. lowe0
Â
Really, i dont believe that production costs go up to make a game bigger. If you want to have higher quality and better voice overs yes. But to make the GTA IV universe bigger by puting in more buildings and roads etc that are likely to be identical would not be a very complicated or expenisve task i would think.  But I sort of understand where the comment about the 360's smaller storage format hurting them. I think the person was saying M$ payed enough $ to get the game to come out on both systems at the same time, so the game cannot be bigger on the ps3. The person is saying the ps3 will eventually win because people will now realize that the game could have been bigger if it had been created to fit on a Blu-ray disc and not DVD. Rockstar will make more $ by selling the game on 360 since it is more popular RIGHT NOW. but we cant predict the future, but we'll just see.

If you're just slotting in identical assets, then why would the disc need to be bigger? It's just a reference to the model and its textures; it's not like they put the entire building in over and over if they want to reuse something. They don't put the entire tree in every single spot they want to use it; there's just a reference that says "load this tree and put it here".
