wow the wii is such a beast.

Well, out high dollar certainly helps with those 360 numbers. When the 360 dropped $50 in the US, it dropped $100 in Canada thanks to the dollar. That makes a huge difference and the 360 now sells for $399...which is a very reasonable price for ANY console in Canada. Hell, even the PS2 cost more than $399 when it launched ($429). Plus the 360 comes with one or two games bundled.

Meanwhile, the currency hasn't had quite the same affect on the PS3. First off, I've never seen a single store in my city that EVER sold the 20 gig model. I think Walmart had it at launch but once itsold, they never re-stocked. Even with the price drop, the 60gig PS3 was around $550 to $599...with the 80 gig still over the $600 price point.

If Sony wants to see a massive spike in their Canada sales, that $399 40gig PS3 should be $399 in Canada also. This would take a huge dent out of 360 sales and I'd be willing to bet they'd be neck and neck right through Christmas.

Insteresting peice of date. Here's what the September US numbers might look like if they track exactly the same as Canadian numbers (which they probably won't):

360: 530.6k
WII: 503.3k
PSP: 369.6k
NDS: 333.0k
PS3: 160.4k
PS2: 160.2k
GBA: 93.4k

Cows have convinced me that the PS3 is selling faster than the PS2 was at this point in it life and there's little doubt the PS3 will sell more than the PS2.

I still think the PS3 out-sells the x360 eventually because of strong support in Japan & Europe. But I don't think the PS3 overtakes the x360 until around mid-2009. By then however, Sony will have lost a ton of marketshare.

I agree i am thinking MSFT will have to slowly take away market share from the others through out the generations to become market leader.
