NPD Leak December Sales: Switch dominated PS4 and Xbox One outsells PS4

NPD Group’s sales report for December 2018 video game sales in the United States has appeared to leaked early.

According to the leaked report, the Nintendo Switch was the bestselling video game console in the US for the month of December. Not only that, the report seems to suggest that the Switch has outsold both the PS4 and Xbox One combined in that month. It would be a very huge deal if this is true.

Industry insider Benji, who has access to internal sales data, has also thrown around some figures for the month of December. Benji estimates that the Switch sold over 2 million units in December, while the Xbox One moved around 1 million and the PS4 slightly under 1 million.

Yep, @techhog89 will be correct regarding December sales. NPD will announce the final numbers later this January.

That sounds about right. And Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launch December of 2018, it would've boost Switch sales thus surpassing both PS4 & Xbox One December NPD.

A successful console with a system selling game during the holidays should put up big numbers.

Power of Pokemon and smash.

Sounds about right. This also just like last year. Very similar trend, switch makes a good christmas present.

Ps4: 1.5m

Switch: 900k

December 2017

Switch: 1.5m

Xbox: 1.3m

Ps4: 980k

Edit: ps4 actually 1.08m in december

The bigger news is that the X1 outsold the PS4. That doesn’t happen very often.

Was bound to happen, the Xbox had much more discounts during the holidays I think.

I don't think it was expected for switch to outsell the other by that much. That is impressive for the switch. Maybe nintendo is not crazy they will hit there world wide hardware target for the fiscal year. Reggie did say once the holidays are over people will return there shitty unwanted gifts and trade for the Switch lol.

I finally got a Switch, I will be using it mostly in portable mode. Love the large screen.

This is a an educated guess, not a leak. Granted, it'll likely be very accurate, but it's not an NPD leak because there's no data to leak. December tracking doesn't end until Saturday.

Bizarre. The Nintendo console I have no desire to own is one of its most popular - and I own every N console ever made (minus a 3DS).

Looks like Nintendo may very well hit that 20m annual target they were shooting for. And they may repeat it next year, with the real next-gen Pokemon coming up, and with the Detective Pikachu hype to give it a boost.

...The real surprise though is X1 outselling PS4.

It's the truth. There's no reason why the Xbox One, having a better deal than the last month for much longer, shouldn't be WAY higher than both the PS4 and the previous numbers for its last month. Jesus, they may as well introduce the new one this year. LOL!

$100 cheaper, man! Shameful! This is gonna be BAD year for Xbox One at this rate.

There's no "damage controlling" about it. I get that the ps4 came in last place THIS time, but don't go spewing garbage because of a probable "fluke", especially when MS basically had to get a genie to grant a wish for the x1 to beat out the ps4 this holiday season.
