Could you tell me how much Red Steele sold vs. Metroid Prime 3?and i'm taking that "what if" scenario and using previous data for my answer. If the ps3 was able to outsell the 360 at being 50 bucks more expensive, the ps3 will definately outsell the 360 being at the same price for sure[QUOTE="ermacness"]
[QUOTE="The_Game21x"]
Yes I was.
Remember, your argument is based on a "what if" scenario and mypost is perfectly valid in accordance with that scenario.
The_Game21x
We'll see.
Again, you can't really disprove my argument here...
The 360 sold very well in 2007, which is regarded as the Xbox 360's best year, games-wise. Now, I'm going to piggy back on the argument PS3 fans constantly use and say that the Xbox 360 has no games this year. Now, if it can sell as well as it has without any games, one can only imagine how much sales will improve when the big time exclusives start coming out this fall leading up to the holiday season.
See what I did there? I used"past data" to reinforce my point in what is essentially a "what if" scenario.
in 2007??!!!?! The ps3 was 600 bucks throughout a great part of 07. The 360 did have a killer line-up, but the ps3 line-up really wasn't anything you'll call competition, but that's not the case now. The ps3 have great games coming as well. As for 09, both consoles look very bleak throughout this year, but in 2010, it's going to be a hardcore battle between the 360 and ps3 and the software competition isn't anywhere near as dominant for the 360 vs the ps3 like it was in 07 and from the looks of things, it'll never get that way againIt could. Your opinion =/= people's opinion who bought Wii Sports.Bazooka_4METhat's not my opinion. You said quality determines a game's sales, and since Wii Sports sold the most copies ever, it's has to be the best game ever made.

That's the thing - 2007 was the 360's best year but it still got outsold by a $600 PS3 with no games. Right now the only thing that's keeping the 360 ahead of the PS3 is it's cheaper price. IF the PS3 happened to drop its price down as low as the 360 (or even the Wii), do you still think the 360 will keep its constant lead? We'll see.
Again, you can't really disprove my argument here...

That's not my opinion. You said quality determines a game's sales, and since Wii Sports sold the most copies ever, it's has to be the best game ever made. Could you tell me how much Red Steele sold vs. Metroid Prime 3?red steele has sold over a million
MP3 is close to a million, but there is no indication that metroid prime 3 has surpassed the million mark....it has sold under a million
according to your theory, the fact that these two games are close in sales must indicate that their quality must be very close.....with red steel having the edge over MP3, correct?

so you are comparing the sales results of a car that is 10 - 15 times the price range of the top selling cars (that ARE NOT even in competition with SUPERCARS, lol)....
.....to the sales results of a console that has a price tag less than 1.5 - 2 times that of the top selling consoles (that the PS3 is in DIRECT competition with)
yeah that makes a lot of sense.
system wars analogies are awesome.

Sony brainwash confirmed.
7,000,000 console lead over PS3
PS3 will definately outsell 360's user base
Generous offer of this gen lasting 4 more years
7,000,000 (consoles) / 48 (months) = (around) 143,000
PS3 owners thinking that the PS3 will outsell the 360 world wide by about 150,000 for 48 months straight hilarious
PS3 owners claiming they don't care about sales yet some of them always continue to argue about them even the gap is getting larger....Priceless.
That is all.
if you're expecting a $400 console to outsell two cheaper consoles (one being a casual goldmine and the other being able to play games that look similar) during a recession, during the summer, then you're a ****ing idiot.
why are people acting surprised that the PS3 isn't selling well right now?
it doesn't really matter how much bang for buck the ps3 offers. People like cheap stuff that can do the samething: play great games.

Actually yes it does, well most of the time. Sales are BEST way to determine a good game as consumers determine what is good buy buying product hence your neo classical economic way says if good games sell well they are good, millions of consumers dont consistenly buy bad games, if a game on GS gets a 5 but it sells 10 million copies its smart and logical to say gamespot is wrong and that infact since the game has continued to sell is it a good game. However most people finish on that point where actually theres exists inperfect information at nearly all levels meaning that the consumer doesnt know which games are best, the degree to which you think there is imperfect information will determine how long you think bad games will sell untill every starts to stay clear. The idea workjs mostly for good games that dont sell well, but here in SW people seem to think that if GS score something a 9 then it universally is a good game not taking to account that it only caters fors its own audience and that most likely a very high majority of people (mostly non gamers/casuals) would think otherwise i,e. reinfiorcing that good games sell.
Sorry for long text (plus its economic focus) but id like to see someone tackle what i said.

I disagree. Infamous and Prototype launched approximately at the same time, but for the PS3 Prototype outsold Infamous, even though accross the web the latter was getting better reviews. The difference: when Prototype launched there were lots of commercials on tv for Prototype. This is avery important factor for commercial success. If you don't consider this you're oversimplifying things.

However your making the assumption that Infamous is better than Prototype which according to reviewers mostly across the board is correct, but your also making the very big mistake of assumption that every PS3 owner would think Infamous was better than prototype which is totally untrue, im not sure about the sales but if Prototype has sold 50k more then its likely that that marketing has pushed it, only with large difference in sales could you say one game was better than another. As for marketing, that plays into the perfect information, marketing cant push an appalling game to 10 million copies because eventually word gets out. As i said above you couldnt say Prototype was better just because it sold a mere 100k more but if it goes onto sell 5 million more then the market (which is the best way of showing what the consumer wants and thinks is good) says its better whether or not it was marketed better.
I wont lie and say im not over simplifying things because i guess only something verging on the length of a thesis could really unravel things, there will be factors such as time (as mentioned above) that will be a determinant but what i have wrote above is an insight into how the market decides good and bad games.
