The 2 main questions concerning the 360 selling more. 1, how many people that want to play halo don't have a 360 yet, and 2, how long will that surge last?

The sequel to the best selling game on the xbox with 30%ish attach rate wont make the 360 have a surge erm... intresting theory.

Halo 3 is the definition of a system seller, I'm sure 360 sales will see a jump following its release.

There will definitely be a surge in sales, but as long as the Wii has the same amount of supply as the last couple of months, the Wii can continue to outsell the 360 in hardware.

Yes it will

I doubt it will overtake the Wii in selling units. But no doubt the software will sell bucketloads!
But who cares! Everyone knows Halo 3 will be awesome.

360 will sell 400k-500k next month.The effect of Halo 3 wont be a sudden 1 million sales spike.It'll be a great addition to the 360 library and will increase sales throughout the holiday season.

if the 360 doesnt sell more units in sept than in aug, then the cows will claim ownage because "teh halo is not a system seller." but if it sells more units and doesnt get the AAA cows will claim ownage because "teh halo flopped." i think it will sell more units in sept, but i was suprised by aug. numbers they were pretty high.

a few things will be answered in september

1-How many units will Halo sell in a 24 hour span
2-How many hardware units can Halo 3 actually bring, we know there is a good group of people playing it on xbox 1 right now, but how many will make the move right away if at all.
3-Is 270,350, and 420 cheap enough to get a surge from Halo
4-Does the 360 have a market for Eternal Sonota
5-How far did Metroid Prime 3 and Bioshock fall
6-How good is the 360 madden doing in september
7-How high will a PS3 game actually be in september.

Considering that the holiday season is the best time for console sales, that's not really a risky bet at all. Last year, the 360 sold about 2 million in November and December alone.

Halo will have the same effect Gears of war did last year. And gears just started it's franchise. Everyone who knows anything about video games, knows about Halo 3. People that have not bought a 360 or either console could be waiting for the console to drop in price for the holidays.

MS will drop the price to counter anything Sony does. My prediction is atleast 2 million sold by years end. Could be alot more depending on what Mass Effect does.

Right now MS will have the 3 hottest exclusives.. Bioshock, Halo 3, and Mass effect. The only other game I am looking forward to multi-platform wise is COD4.. Take those 4 games and I will see you when GTA4 comes out in the spring!!

That is not true. At All.

Consoles don't get all their sales in the first YEAR a system is out.

In fact me AND my best friend are Xbox users that are about to buy 360 in the next few weeks. (because we are getting too far behind in games, but especially because of Halo 3.)

In regards to a sales surge... I belive there will be a moderate surge for the console as the result of holdouts and advertising...however most familiar with halo have already bought the console. I know plenty of people rushing out to buy a 360 right now. A more significant surge will come in october once this game is released and everyone is talking about it... when all your friends are playing halo 3, your not gonna be the only one without a 360. Word of mouth will be huge.

I don't think Halo will be able to double the sales of 360s. Might get them to 300k, or close to what the Wii is selling, but I seriously doubt it will get past 400k. The holiday season will probably have a larger boost.

The 2 main questions concerning the 360 selling more. 1, how many people that want to play halo don't have a 360 yet, and 2, how long will that surge last?TimeToPartyHard

For some reason this is an important aspect that some people don't want to think about it. How many people that want and/or are going to get Halo 3 already have an Xbox 360 compared to those that don't have one yet?

Chances are those that are interested in Halo 3 were also interested in games like Call of Duty 3, Gears of War, Lost Planet, and several other FPS or similar games that came out for the system. For fans of the genre, there were more then enough games out to make a person pick up the system over the past year, coming on two years now. I think it's more then silly to think there is going to be a HUGE surge of buyers buying the Xbox 360 when Halo 3 comes out. Yes there will be those that are picking up the system for the first time due to the game but no way is it going to make numbers go through the roof the way some seem to think. I just honestly can't and don't see that happening.

Also how long things will last is another issue. Stores know full well they are going to sell a ton of copies. I expect sales to be huge within the first few days or even first month or so. Anyone that has been waiting for this game will be trying to get it as soon as it comes out. High numbers over months afterward I don't see to be honest.

For things to be has huge as some are making them out to possibly be when it comes to system sales then that would have to mean that almost everyone that bought Halo 1 and 2 haven't even bothered to pick up a 360 yet. Sure you might have some former PS2 owners but chances are equally good they are still busy with the PS2, have gotten either a Wii, 360, or PS3 already. If they weren't that interested in Halo 1 or 2 what makes one thing Halo 3 is going to be something they will rush out to get? So a HUGE surge of buyers can't very well come from that there if that is what some people are expecting to happen.

I disagree completely.

First, many 360 fans now were ps2 owners previously. You can see just from looking at system wars. They may not have had a chance to play Halo 1 and 2 and probably do want to join in in playing it now. Especially if they game on XBL. Next month over 75% of XBL will be playing Halo 3. I just saw a poster earlier note that because of XBL, he now buys games he may not have before just because his friends list is mostly playing said game. I now that tendency, because I have done it, too. Word of mouth will make Halo sell console's and systems for almost a year.

Secondly. about 6.6 million people bought Halo 2 in the U.S. 360 has sold about 7.1 million units in the U.S.

Are you saying that virtually all of the sales of the 360 thus far are Halo 1 and 2 fans? What about the millions of people, like I mentioned earlier, who didn't have an Xbox? Or the millions more I bet are out there, like myself and others I know, who were fans and have not yet made the next gen jump?

I highly doubt that everyone who bought Halo 2 will buy Halo 3. With only the 7.1 million units sold in the US (as per to your statement) There's a good chance that sales of Halo 3 will be hampered due to the low user install base. Although some people will buy a 360 just to play Halo 3, I doubt too many people will flock out and do just that. Only the diehard fans who haven't purchased a 360 yet will boost up the sales of 360 directly, and somehow I don't think they number in the millions, let alone in the hundreds of thousands.

It depends really. How many Wiis can Nintendo Ship? Will DS contuine to trounce competition? I expect decline in PS2 sales and PSP. Nothing really worth mentioning on those in terms of the public eye. 360 should see a good 100k-150k spike in sales. Which I expect will be maintained and increased in October, even higher the next two selling 1-1.5million units in those two months. Its the system to have. Ps3 is neglicatable outside of fanboys.

The 2 main questions concerning the 360 selling more. 1, how many people that want to play halo don't have a 360 yet, and 2, how long will that surge last?TimeToPartyHard

its not just about halo, its about seeing xbox360 everywhere from MY times, Time mag, Entertainement weekly, plus the ads, the slurpee, ect ect, its baout increased consumer awareness amongst casuals not just those that want halo3

there ends todays chooling in marketing

Well in the hundreds of thousands, I see happening. Especially in October, because Halo 3 comes at the end of this month. Which is less than a week, I say half a million units will be sold nationwide just in the U.S alone. Now imagine the rest of the international community, when you involve there numbers.

I don't doubt that Halo 3 will be able to push half a million in a month. What I do doubt is that Halo 3 will spur a sudden surge of 200,000 Xbox360s to be sold in the same month to let it surpass the Wii in monthly sales. One has to pretty much suggest that every 1 in 3 people who want Halo 3 within the first month of launchhasn't purchased a 360 yet.

I think were going to see what halo can actually do in the october numbers. It'll be interesting how many consoles sell in sept with halo 3 only getting 5 days in sept.

Now imagine that NPD isn't just based on North America. Then, and only then, you might have something.

Besides, am I the only one that sees the "real deal" here?

Hardware Sales:
Nintendo = 4,304,100
Sony = 483,800
MS = 276,700

Software Sales:
Nintendo = 760,900
Sony = 1,252,300
MS = 1,387,500 (65% is Madden)

Actually, September is a 5 week tracking period. Halo 3 will get 2 weeks. In Oct., it will be a 4 week tracking month.

You must not know how to add, because its

Nintendo= 854,400

Sony= 483,800

MS= 276,700

Kid go back to school. And for your info, they all make more money off of the games, and accesories for the consoles.
