Nvidia Enjoys Record Sales Amid Thriving PC Games Business

Chipmaker Nvidia has reported what it deems as "record" sales for the three months sales period between November and January, due to a spike in demand for its new Maxwell graphics cards.

The corporation's revenue for the quarter was put at $1.25 billion, up by 9 percent from the same period last year, due in part by the availability of second-generation GeForce GPUs such as the GTX 980.

Nvidia says money from its GeForce GPUs climbed by 38 percent, pushing profits up by a third to reach $193 million. For the full year, total revenue climbed to $4.7 billion and net profits hit $630 million.

However, sales results of the company's micro-console, the Nvidia Shield, were not disclosed.

"Momentum is accelerating in each of our market-specialized platforms, driving record revenue in the quarter and full year," said the company's chief executive Jen-Hsun Huang.

Looking ahead, Nvidia will hold a presentation at the Game Developers Conference in March where the company is expected to reveal something that will "redefine the future of gaming."

I am one of those folks....I am happy with my 970 so far.

970 is imho the best card they ever made for that price range.

I know three people who bought new cards this year; none are being used for gaming. They only play mobile games on phone and ipad.

All my buddies have jumped on the 970 recently, even my more console centric bros. It's been crazy, I've never seen all my gamer friends upgrade their cards at the same time like this.

Meanwhile, AMD is getting blasted. This is the issue when they delayed the 300 series for months. They have to halt shipments until the r9 200 series stock clears out. Their venders are saying no more.

God AMD, just release the r9 300 series already.

I already got $70 refunded when i complained it's a POS and has graphics no better than what my PS4 can pull off.

The problem is, what are you going to buy to replace the 970? Despite the flaw, 970 STILL has the best bang for buck. The only option is to either pay more for 980, which has significantly worse performance/cost ratio, or downgrade to 960 or an AMD card.

Personally, I have lodged the issue with my local retailer already, and I shall exchange my 970s for the 8GB version 970s when they come out. Even if the 8GB version are in practice only 7GB, it will still be more than enough for my needs.

yes ps4 and xbox do suck the big one. However they didnt lie about the specs on the box.

People are QQ'ing because the last 500mb of VRAM is super slow.

if PC gaming is thriving why is the ps4 the fastest selling console of all time and its competing with 2 other ones

and PC seems laughed at by todays teenagers who play games on tablets and phones

its just so old school imo the new generation doesn't like pc gaming from what ive seen i don't think its thriving like never before like OP claimed

places like dell are moving away from tower pc's and places like sony are trying to sell there computer business's

business is not all that great imo for pc right now its a dark time ahead

stop saying its thriving when were seeing nothing but warning signs for tradional gaming pc's from the major outlets

kids are on laptops and tablets and phones they hate PC they barely like consoles maybe they think there ok but there like meh sometimes there not into as much as old school core gamers tho

@gcfreak898: Yea its cute how since AMD bought out ATI, they shared some of the egg cooking heat from their CPUs over to their video cards. Now maybe you can cook an egg on a r9 290x. Same price as a 970, but doesn't perform as well, and puts off 110w more heat!.

(inb4 but teh gtx 970 memory)
