Nvidia Tegra 2. Possible 3DS graphics?

A port of the Unreal 3 engine running on the Tegra 2. :o Obviously it's not going to be as graphically impressive as the HD console variants, but it looks mighty impressive. Wasn't there rumors that the 3DS would be using Tegra 2? What are your thoughts, guys?

every time i see 3DS i still think of 3DS max.

The only reason that I doubt it is because idk how they would be able to have that graphical capability + 3d and still be able to have an 8 hour or so battery life. Nintendo will always sacrifice horse power to get the best battery life possible

I hope they do. The DS is an awesome machine, and has some of my favorite games this gen. Phantom Hourglass alone >>> most HD console games I've played. But Nintendos artistic abilities + decent tech = win. Imagine a Phantom Hourglass sequel in full 3D like the original. :shock:

Well ok. So how much can the 3DS cost us? I think $200.
I mean, the DS was $150 and became huge.

The DS is still going strong so they could totally keep the DS going and let people step to 3DS over a long period of time (as it drops in price).
I have 2 problems with this. 1 It would allow competition to steal userbase (cause it takes a while for price to drop i imagine). 2 Nintendo is not into dropping prices.

If it is $200, and nintendo wants same profit as with DS launch, could Tegra 2 still happen?

wow looks promising, tegra 1 wasnt that expensive (200$for zuneHD)so where is the problem to bring out a windows machine in 6 inch for a decent price. I want play starcraft on a pocket device :( with out spending over 1000€s.

This is exactly what i was thinking. Why would Nintendo increase graphical capabilities by a lot on a handheld, but not by very much on a console?

Also, E3 is going to be kind of weird this year. Lots of the stuff is going to be in 3D which doesn't exactly translate through our monitors at home, so we won't actually get to see how well it works.

Nvidia has apparently mentioned in private to investors and certain relations (like Anand la Shimp of Anandtech) that Tegra 2 is currently used in every single protoype of the 3DS, however a contract has not been nailed down yet. So yeah, it looks like its going to happen.

Tegra 2 actually has the same power envelope as whats in the DS, believe it or not. Battery power wouldnt be an issue.

Well, the profit margins they made with the Wii must be absolutely huge, so they're probably preparing to enter the HD world. Hopefully they'll be unveiling a Wii HD along with the 3DS maybe. They'll probably keep supporting the Wii with various Wii Fit type games, but keep the HD for more "hardcore" games. Who knows. :D E3 is going to be fascinating.

It uses the same power as whats in the DS. Smaller transisters = smaller power = higher performance at equal power envelopes. Technology is grand.

I played the demo on a Tegra 2 Tablet at PAX and the game ran smooth like butter with close to Xbox graphics. They rep also said that the demo was only running on one of the two Tegra 2's cores. Nonstop-Madness

At GDC some developers confirmed that he 3DS is indeed being powered by NVidia Tegra, and is about as powerful as the GC.

I will buy one if the games look this good.
