Yes, MS is loading up datacenters full of GeForce Titans so that they can sell you a console with a 1.1TFLop GPU...

What could possibly go wrong? LOL

It's a shame that PS4 can't do lighting on its own.  If only it had the power of the cloud.

You do know that Nvidia's Solution is making use of Titans and Q5000...neither of which are present in Azure.

Azure is pretty much entirely a CPU farm, whereas this tech demands a GPU farm.

[QUOTE="DigitalFoundry"] Gaikai is also noteworthy in that it has created partnerships with key technology providers that should see its quality of service increase significantly going forward. The tie-up with NVIDIA for its GeForce GRID technology is an interesting case in point - image encoding occurs on the GPU, cutting down capture and encoding times significantly, and there are hints in the documentation that decoding time has also been improved too somehow. In the world of cloud technology, every millisecond saved is an enormously important achievement.

343 built Halo 4 multiplayer around the cloud, which was in development stage looong before Sony acquired Gaikai.

Sony probably caught wind that Halo 4 and the Cloud was only the first step for MS, so they panicked

Sounds similar to what MS was stating about using the cloud for light maps. hmmm

"One example of that might be lighting," he continued. "Lets say youre looking at a forest scene and you need to calculate the light coming through the trees, or youre going through a battlefield and have very dense volumetric fog thats hugging the terrain. Those things often involve some complicated up-front calculations when you enter that world, but they dont necessarily have to be updated every frame. Those are perfect candidates for the console to offload that to the cloudthe cloud can do the heavy lifting, because youve got the ability to throw multiple devices at the problem in the cloud."

Nvidia has been working on cloud rendering for awhile. It's pretty promising.

This is pretty inteesting stuff. Maybe it can be used in real time for stuff. A lot of their demos had 150ms or more of latency so it's still not ideal. Cool stuff though.

Nvidia can already do hollywood level CGI rendering in less than 1 second using their cloud. Something that would take local server farms minutes to render they can do it over the internet in seconds. It's really impressive stuff.

The stuff still has a noticeable latency that would look off when playing.

Also do remember this is just basic cloud computing. If you can connect your client to a server, you can do this rendering. Microsoft is just hosting servers themselves to cut the middle man of finding a 3rd party server provider for the cloud services.

Those are perfect candidates for the console to offload that to the cloudthe cloud can do the heavy lifting, because youve got the ability to throw multiple devices at the problem in the cloud."

does MS has GPU clusters for their cloud vision?because i thought it was must CPU based offloads.

Not sure, but MS has many partners in the graphics industry. So I wouldn't be suprised. We'll have to wait and see.

Lol at davekeeh. That guy is probably the biggest fan boy i've ever seen. It saddens me to see such stupidity in a person.

maybe thats what is being built.   10 billion for cloud investment is alot of money.   I think if microsoft is touting it, they are planning to back it up with the right infrastructure.
