Pretty nifty. I like it.

Supposedly better (and easier) than recording via software like fraps or dxtory. Excellent idea from Nvidia, whether you just want to record just for the memories, the epic moments, or for your YouTube channel!

ShadowPlay is part of the GeForce Experience software, included with Nvidia's latest GPU drivers.

Anyone with a Nvidia Kepler GPU will be able to use ShadowPlay.

I will still use FRAPS and Dxtory because I like recording high quality footage then editing and compressing it myself.

Kind of sucks that it is only for Kepler GPUs though.

I wonder what the performance impact is.

Like? FRAPS is the best and simplest recording software currently.

Dxtory is better

Just on the sheer fact that you can choose different codecs to get EXACTLY what you want

Kinky.

But seriously, they should probably think a bit longer about what they name these things.
Sounds neat. Twitch+Youtube buttons and you got a stew going.

While I do agree that FRAPS suffers from only having one codec, it records pretty much uncompressed which gives me complete control over what encode I choose for the final encode. I've looked at Dxtory and yes its great having all those options but a fraction of the people using it will have a clue what they do.

Can't help it. I'm spurting AR all over everywhere. Ending up with a mess on my hands. But I will suck it up.

Sure, FRAPS is a quick and simple solution but I preferred being able to record slightly lower quality and save a tonne of space on my Hard drive, with FRAPS you're stuck with it.

As someone with experience with video recordings and compression, I would say you really need to be recording uncompressed but I understand thats not always possible. Recording uncompressed as you said takes up a ton of room. I've got 1.5Tb worth of GTA4 recordings waiting to be encoded, luckily I have the means to do this but I know others can't. Hell, I have a 2 hour long Supcom FA match that I recorded at 60FPS which came out at nearly 500GB uncompressed

In my experience Dxtory has been the best so far. As mentioned above, just the fact that you can choose your own codec is a great advantage. There are many options in dxtory which make it the better alternative to fraps.

I am very interested in Nvidias solution though.

Yikes :?

I would love to be able to use FRAPS' quality and render it down but internet just can't handle it for uploads. My card records tiny file sizes, an hour of a game was only 9GB, so it allows me to make it even smaller when rendering. Quality isn't perfect but for the file size it can't be beaten

I use the lagarith lossless codec for Dxtory and it looks similar to FRAPS footage.

Besides even on Original mode YouTube compresses the video heavily especially in darker areas.

In one play I recorded over 4 hours of a simple visual novel with FRAPS because DXtory wasn't detected, the file size was in the hundreds of gigs.

Good thing I have a second HDD for that stuff.

I was able to compress the footage down to 6.5GB and then upload it to YouTube which further compressed it.

I never thought I would get that large of a file size out of a game with still frame images but I guess at over 4 hours long it is expected.

Yup but sometimes I have to use FRAPS.

Dxtory has performance issues with some opengl programs and it does not detect really old games.

FRAPS has a desktop recording function that I use for older games.
