September 12, 2007 - Today Emergent Game Technologies, makers of the Gamebryo engine powering popular current games like Oblivion and the upcoming Fallout 3, announced a version of the middleware is now available for the Wii. The engine is designed to speed up the development process by automating actions that are normally time-consuming.
"With the success of Nintendo's Wii console catching much of the industry off guard and offering fresh interactive features, developers need new tools to be able to develop for multiple platforms that offer vastly different capabilities and require different programming techniques," said Geoffrey Selzer, CEO of Emergent. "We are committed to making multiplatform development as painless as possible while still delivering industry leading performance. Gamebryo for Wii simply sets a new standard for middleware designed for this top selling platform. We are very proud to be part of Nintendo's Third Party Tools program."
Gamebryo is already running over 200 games, ranging from massively-multiplayer online titles to casual fare."
^^^ for the lazy
cool....though im a little scpetical.
that was awfully fast....i wonder just how well the engine is taking advantage of the wii. it can take years to develop an engine, something to get the best out of the hardware even more so. i wonder if this is just a quick and dirty job or did the devs actually do everything they could to squeez as much as possible out of the wii in that short time.
also what exactly can it do? does it perform better than the morrowind engine?
still its also surprising that other middleware companies havent taken advantage of this. UE2 can run on wii but thats basically the xbox1 version.....epic have no interest in developing any wii tech. same with ID. crytek are only messing around....chances are they wont release any wii engine.
itll certainly make life easier on wii and will hopefully help devs get better results out of it. certainly a welcome addition.
Oblivions combat system sucks. Maybe Bethesda where inspired by the Wii.Lilac_Benjie
Please. That was one of the few things drastically improved over Morrowind. Did you ever play Morrowind. Swing, swing, swing, WHIFF!, swing. Great stuff.
Oblivion has extremely fluid combat.

I played Daggerfall and Arena before Morrowind was even released. The Elder Scrolls has never had good combat. It's like slow Hexen.
This is the trailer that got me into Elder Scrolls. It came with my Skynet CD. :P
I''d love Bethesda wiimake the two older Elder Scroll games either Arena or Daggerfall!!! I'm leaning on Daggerfall though!!!
Hopefully other 3rd parties would get this engine and make better looking Wii games!!!

Yes, I've been playing the Elder SCrolls since the beginning as well - since Arena.
Oblivion is very combat focused (and that's why it has so many detractors... they say it took the depth and lore out and focused too much on combat,) it improved the system.
[QUOTE="JayPee89"][QUOTE="Shadow_op"]PSP port FTW!!!!Possibly and Elder Scrolls game?
God, I'd love that....

I recall the Elder scrolls being on the 360 and PS3 ;)
Yeah, but we know this is just a cash grab. It would be cheaper for them to port the PSP version as opposed to massively downgrading the PS360 version. The Wii was made for porting handheld games, the proof is in the pudding.[QUOTE="osan0"]cool....though im a little scpetical.

i just realised that.....popped over to the website :P. all i knew about the morrowind engine was that it ran on the dark age o camelot engine....didnt realise it was game byro. woops :P.
anywho....it didnt give alot of detail over there. just said that the latest version supports wii development. i still wonder if this is just the morrowind version of game byro with some APIs for the controller or did they start from a clean slate with the wii hardware in mind? itll be interesting to see what devs can do with it.....when ever games that use it are released on wii.....which wont be for a while more than likely.
