Good news the Oblivion game engine is getting ported over to the Wii. They say that it is going to be modified but still should be good:

"We are delighted to announce the Wii port of our Gamebryo engine. With the success of Nintendo's Wii console catching much of the industry off guard and offering fresh interactive features, developers need new tools to be able to develop for multiple platforms that offer vastly different capabilities and require different programming techniques," said Geoffrey Selzer, CEO of Emergent. "We are committed to making multiplatform development as painless as possible while still delivering industry leading performance. Gamebryo for Wii simply sets a new standard for middleware designed for this top selling platform. We are very proud to be part of Nintendo's Third Party Tools program."

honestly an oblivion port would be terrible on the wii. I think it's best for them to tweak the engine for the wii and for other 3rd party to make games from scratch.

Wow... Neoseeker are giving bad information.

Gamebryo is not "the Oblivion engine." Gambryo is used for Oblivion, Civilization 4, and a bunch of RTS games. Its a closer to say its more like a different version of DirectX or OpenGL than an actual game engine.

et tu, Bethesda?THETRUEDOZAH

It's not Bethesda, it's Emergent. Gamebryo is the third-party engine that Bethesda used to make Oblivion, kinda like Unreal Engine. And it's not like this is a surprise. Gamebryo was used on the Xbox for Call of Cthulhu and Pirates.

No, the Wii gets the Gamebryo engine. Not Oblivion. It's a middleware port.

Gamebryo is graphics only engine, bassicaly it's only renderer, which makes it harder to use than Unreal, but at the same time it makes it much more versalite. Plus it costs like 20 times less than UE3.0 :)

Blame Bethesda for their poor programming skills. I haven't played a Bethesda game that wasn't overridden with bugs.

It's nice and all that the Wii is getting Gamebryo, but I'd rather see Source getting ported. The facial animation in Oblivion wasn't very good, especially concerning Khajiit and Argonians.

Gamebryo is just the renderer. Oblivion also used proprietary AI engines by Bethesda and the Havok physics engine which made use of HDR and specular mapping. This doesn't even take into account the procedural tools that enabled the massive realistic landscapes.

ok, so, we'll be seeing similar structure, with 1/2 teh textures, half the resolution, and.... tacked on wiimote.... i don't think so, unless tehy can actually pull it out and it actually plays amazingly, i doubt this will end up being good.

The graphics sucked. It was only good draw distances or texture mods that made it look decent.

Farcry demolished its draw distances, on the 360 the draw distances in oblivion sucked. It was a good looking game period.

What the Hell are you talking about?

I can't wait to see how it (the engine,)performs on the Wii compared to how it performs on the PS3/360. Is that not what I said?

And how exactly is that incorrect in any way, and where exactly did I imply anythingregarding games beingported to the Wii?

It's not the draw distance, it's the pop-in. And the low rez terrain textures in the distance. You'd be walking down a hill (not riding a horse, because the 360 version would hiccup too often if you did) watching grass load in front of you and then wham! look there's a fort.

If I could I'd be playing on a PC where these issues are fixed with mods. Unfortunately there are no mods out there that fix the crappy animations.

With that said, vanilla Oblivion is an awesome game, and bugs are to be expected from any title as large and ambitious.

I don't need years of programming experience to know that having a catastrophic memory leak occur every thirty minutes is not something a well-programmed game would have. And there are many other bugs, less severe but still crippling in comparison to other games, that plague Bethesda's games.

Bethesda's devs aren't efficient. It's just plain fact, at least when Oblivion was released.

WTF?

Yes, it (the games that use it) will look FAR worse when running on the Wii. It will have to be heavily modified (downgraded) for it to run smoothlyon the Wii's hardware. The games that use it will not look anywhere near as sharp as the games that use the version on the 360/PS3. is that hard to understand?

Andwhere did I state any games will be ported to the Wii? Grasp at straws much? The people implying Oblivion will be ported over were, by and large, Nintendo fanboys. Did you actually read this thread?

You keeping mixing different concepts.

Interesting you're calling all others fanboys when you yourself are trying to mock it like there's no end. I read this thread, thank you.

You can also stop your puny remarks. Maybe then your brain can run mainly relevant information.

Care to explain what concepts I'm "confusing," Sir High and Mighty?

GameBryo is a multiplatform engine as I said in MY ORIGINAL POST. it has been used since Morrowind. When used on weaker hardware (Wii) it looks FAR worse thanwhen it's used on more powerful hardware (programmers are limited by weak hardware, and they can do less with GameBryo when they have less horsepower to tap.) The games that will use it on the Wii will look horrid compared to how Oblivion looks on 360 and PS3. Aww, didn't understand my original post?

So, what concepts have I confused exactly? Perhaps you should actually READ my original post.

Sorry, you just don't have a clue what you're talking about.

I don't know. If I were to take issue with your posts it would be over how stupidly obvious they are.

No way man.

"Ahahaha, that'll look GREAT.

I can't wait to see how the engine looks on the Wii, haha."

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that games using this engine on the Wii will look a lot like other Wii games.

"lol wii games luk worse than the xbox and ps3 games man wen wil u stupid fanboyz lern"

Ok I made that last one up but you get the point.

Maybe I wouldn't come off as pretentious if you didn't come out of left field and call me ignorant for no reason whatsoever. If anything, everything I've said about the engine has been blaringly obvious.... if you can't even recognize the basic concepts I don't expect you to go anywhere beyond simple insults.

[QUOTE="ardylicious"]Oh Nooooo. Well it will really have to be watered down because even the other 2 consoles can't run it without frequent gliches and lag mania.........mjarantilla

Blame Bethesda for their poor programming skills. I haven't played a Bethesda game that wasn't overridden with bugs.

Thats great you know, your opinion on their programming skills is so valid, you know, because you obviously have years of experience and have made many games like Oblivion.

Doesn't matter. You have no right to complain about bugs in a AAA game that you had no part in making, You don't know what went into making the game, so unless you have years of programming experience and you have made games like or better than Oblivion, your opinion on their programming skills/professionalism is less than moot.

No. I actually don't care to dispute it. I'll leave you in your merry ignorant world :)CerealEater

Ahaha, yep, congratulations.

And a quick hint, actually read up on the topic of discussion if you're unsure what it is. It's obvious you don't know much about Gamebryo, how it's used, and how it has been used. Insulting people talking about doesn't make you look so great.

On the Wii, the games will look much like Morrowind did on the original Box, sorry.
