Octopath Traveler GOTY so far?

The farther I get in the game the more I realize this is a complete masterpiece. Will most likely be GOTY for me, what about you guys?

Personal is GoW for me. I haven't played Octo yet, but I'd be very surprised if it passes GoW for me.

For best Switch game? Yes

Over God of War? No

No, it’s a good game but there have been better in my opinion this year already.

Easily GOTY so far for me. I feel smash bros ultimate could rival it. Everything else I’ve played so far this year hasn’t come close including GoW.

Possibly. I prefer action games by a little bit, but im enjoying this more than god of war. Still plenty of time for it to be beaten though.

Likely better than the new pokemon games though, and im a huge pokemon fan. Lets Go will still be great.

Personally Monster Hunter World is still my GotY for 2018 however Octopath Traveler is a fantastic game and I’m still enjoying it immensely.

There is no epic story or characters. The only reason octopath gets any praise is because Switch is in a massive game drought so ANY 5/10 mediocre game like octopath gets hyped up to 10/10 status by nintendo fanboys.

I haven't played God Of War. From what I saw I feel like I'll be disappointed.

It does look like a great JRPG. I'm more of a Monster Hunter dude though. Haven't played World yet but I have a feeling it will take the title for me.

I never even played Jurassic World, lol. It just looks like a great game to me (I like original games)

So far I've played: God of War, Battlefield V, Insurgency Sandstorm and Screaming Steel

And then there are games from 2017 I'm still playing: Assassin's Creed Origins, Shadow of War, Rising Storm 2, Sniper Elite 4. I'm also still playing Battlefield 1 from 2016.

Yup, every video I saw from God of War disappointed me. Every E3 showing it had depressed me.

I was such a huge fan of the original God of War games and to me it looked like they dropped a working formula to turn it into some lame Uncharted/TLOU/Tomb Raider knock off with some stupid kid you had to babysit.

But I couldn't believe my eyes when I started playing it. It didn't just change the combat from the old games, it made it better. It didn't clone the UC/TLOU/TR formula, it's still its own thing. The kid isn't an annoyance, he is a big help on your journey.

I was very wrong about the game and it's easily the best of the year. I'm glad it's getting well deserved high sale numbers. It's a must play.

Yeah man, I just want to build a park, lock everyone in. And than just let the dinosaurs loose. Just go: Oh well guys, I spent all my money on hot dog stands so I couldn't afford any high grade fences or security for that matter. And see where things go.

But it's rare that I spend full price on games these days. Just too many interesting games coming out at once. Even God of War I got at 40 but it was money well spent.

Not my type of game so no. I hate turn based RPGs.

Where did you get it for 40?

I'm only 5 hours in, but not for me yet (obviously). I started with Olberic, then got Primrose, Tressa, and finally Cyrus. I think Olberic has the best story so far, but Cyrus and Primrose are a close second (only done CH 1's). Tressa I could take or leave, though she is decent in a party.

I'm just about to get Alfyn IIRC, as I just got to his village.

GoW so far takes it easy and Spiderman and RDR2 are the only thing that could stop it.

Man this is tough. I absolutely love Octopath Traveler. Such a great game and I haven't beat it yet. Same with God of War. That game has been phenomenal. I feel God of War excels well in a lot of things while Octopath Traveler has minor issues here and there. I won't know until I beat both games though. For Game of the Year I see Red Dead Redemption 2 taking it.

Haven’t played it so I can’t say but I will say that I find it hard to believe something will top Celeste. God of War was ok with some very serious flaws and I never really got hooked on Monster Hunter.

Celeste is a masterpiece. I know it won’t get GOTY from many outlets but it deserves it. Best soundtrack in the last decade is just icing on the cake.
