The Oculus Rift VR headset is being integrated into Chuck E. Cheese family entertainment centers this month.

The Rift will be used for a game called Chuck E. Cheese's Virtual Ticket Blaster Experience where kids grab as many tickets as they can in 360 degrees. Tickets can be exchanged for prizes.

Roger Cardinale, president of parent company CEC Entertainment, says: "Kids today have unprecedented access to game consoles and tablets. Our challenge is to deliver an experience not available at home, and there is no doubt virtual reality does just that. Oculus Rift technology is the next frontier in the gaming industry, and we're thrilled to be able to say it's part of the Chuck E. Cheese's lineup."

Oculus Rift will be tested in the Dallas, San Diego, and Orlando markets this month.

The only true, untainted VR experience is Project Morpheus. Poor hermits.

This may seem like a dumb question but what exactly is a Chuck E. Cheese family entertainment center?

A really smelly arcade?

Looks like Sony lost out to Facebook for that Pizza Money. Too bad because they need all the cash they can get these days.

How the hell is that exactly selling out? The thing is just a VR headset. It can be used in any way people want it. This is just one of its many uses. Expect to see it in a lot of arcades and whatnot in the future. It's cheap and excellent VR.

Are we really going full hipster with this thing?

I'm sorry but this is just ridiculous.

I'm not sure I even want to know what they serve there, but I'd love to see what the famility entertainment center part entails.

It's a big pizza place and arcade for kids. Sometimes they have indoor playground equipment and whatnot. It's a national chain.

Basically they are buying some Oculus Rifts to hook up to some arcade games.

I guess that makes it a rather smart marketing move. It's probably going to expose the Rift to an otherwise untapped market.

Sold out? Were the guys at Oculus supposed to sue Chuck e-Cheese and DEMAND that under no circumstance could CeC be allowed to buy and use a Rift within the premises of any CeC store?

Oh no a device designed for many different applications outside of gaming is doing just that? Shocker!

Morpheus being Playstation games only is going to kill that device. The Rift would have died too if it was games only

Don't talk too crazy now. PS4 is selling faster than the PS2 and the Wii. Morpheus will likely be just fine.

Won't make a difference. Making the device for games only is what will cripple it,especially when it's just for one system. Like I said the same thing would have happened to the Rift too.

Many many gamers have shown their disinterest in VR in general and a lot think it's a gimmick or don't care. Gaming is what has started the VR revolution and cemented it but it's other areas that will shoot VR forward more, just wait till the pr0n industry gets a hold of it (actually already happening)

Not only that but not all games work with VR. Sure millions of PS4s have been sold but there's not many games on it suited for VR. The only games that work with it are gimmicky games made to show it off, First person games and cockpit games like planes and cars. Any third person game will make you feel very disoriented or sick while using it because you're controlling a camera with your head instead of controlling an actual head. On top of that they're not devices suited for extended play sessions due to sickness and eye fatigue. gamers like tradition more (screens and controllers)

It's not even really the same. This seems to be CeC just buying Rifts and using them at their stores. With that, Sony actually partnered with Taco Bell.

The term sell out lost all meaning twenty years ago when artists valued integrity over money. That simply doesn't exist anymore. Everyone is a sell out.

Yup and Sony sold out to Taco Bell and MS sold out to Mountain Dew... You should probably learn to seperate "sold out" from "promotion"

Way to be 12.

On topic: See, I read this earlier today and my first thought was, "Cool! If this works out, I'll finally have a way to try one of these things out!"

It's a gaming device. If it works out, you're gonna see them everywhere games are played.

The console market will never resemble the PS2 era ever again. The PC's popularity is growing exponentially, while console interest is dwindling, especially compared to mobile gaming.

While there was a large install base of Wii, PS3 and 360 consoles last gen, attachment rates were in the 2-5% range (the average, "sold well" type of game sold 1-2 million copies). PS1/N64 era attachment rates were anywhere from 10-35% (Mario 64 sold over 10 million copies, and only 32 million N64's were ever sold).

Looking at the sales of the PS4 especially, given how few games there are, I bet attachment rates for PS4/Bone/U will drop to 1-2% over the next couple years, or even less for most games that aren't first-party. That will be devastating to developers, especially when budgets are only increasing at this point. Pushing them either onto PC, or into the handheld/mobile markets.

Sony is floundering financially, and the faith of it's fanboys aren't going to save them if they can't start pushing more software out the door.

Possible but not likely. Tell me, how many platforms has the Playstation division ever supported outside of Playstation for anything ever?

@Wasdie: Well they are obviously thinking about support non-Playstation devices with PlayStation now. I think it is being integrated into some Bravia TVs already. That in itself isn't exactly a big jump, but I think Sony is thinking outside of just their consoles now.
