Official 3D Dot Game Heroes Hype Thread (Metacritic-80)

Story

he story takes place in the kingdom of Dotnia where peace reigns only when the orbs of power are safe from the clutches of evil demons. Of course, sometimes the bad guys get through, and in order to bring peace to the land once again, a hero must rise with the power of a sacred sword to banish the demons, as well as restore peace by collecting all the orbs. Our story doesn't begin here, however. After the hero had restored order to the land and many years passed, the king felt it was time for a change. Peace was dull and 2D life just wasn't very exciting anymore. By formal decree, the leader gathered his citizens and armies to tell them that they should take the next step by going into 3D. We watched as houses, trees, and the people began to rise from the ground into 3D, like blossoming flowers trying to escape a life of flatness. The sacred sword was put back into place in the woods, but somehow, demons managed to get a hold of the orbs again, which meant it was time for a new hero to save the kingdom.

Gameplay

The gameplay is remeniscint of old 8-bit Zelda games. Players move characters from screen to screen exploring dungeons, battling enemies, collecting items and solving puzzles reminiscent of the ****c games of past. When the player's health bar is full, the player's sword will grow to tremendous sizes whenever swung. Swords in game can be customized and leveled up to increase its length, girth as well as magical power, other special items that can also be used include boomerangs , lanterns, candles and bows.

You can also customize your hero as you see fit, or use a pre-built one to mess around with to your pleasure. This is where some real fun can be had because you can choose every block you want to customize and can last for hours.

I'm hyping AA with 8 being a specific.

for me I think itll get a 9

but for gamespot I think itll get an 8

Looks like a good game for the price , so I'll guess a 7.0

1 of the big things that could affect the score is if the person is either on the "rip-off" crowd or "homage" crowd. Ill say 7.

Let's be honest, this game is tiny, and has a tiny amount of Hype. I don't mind bashing, but I think it should go to the Hugely hyped games, not tiny niche games that probably won't sell more than 80,000 copies in the U.S.

Just my recommendation, but I can't wait to play this. :P

EDIT : Currently, the Poll reflects A Hype by a large margin, but AA hype is at half the A Hype.

I can see GS giving this atleast an AE rating. Tho GS also game Shenmue an Ae rating so it won't affect my purchase decision on this game, it looks to inspired for me to be deswayed by simple review opinons.

Depends on how they rate it, it is easily one of the best tribute games I've ever seen and it's $39. Hopefully the reviewer will keep that in mind. I'm pretty excited for this one. May is going to be great

I'll say a 7.0 just because it would be a shame for this tiny niche game to be called a "flop" and immediately dismised just because it didn't manage to get a AA score here.

First of all, you can't know if I'm wrong or right, secondly, it was just a guess. My point is that it isn't going to sell like in the millions. So your correction of 20k more in sales just confirms my point, that it's going to be a tiny title.

I hope it sells a bazillion copies assuming it's great, but I this is ATLUS and Demon's Souls is the exception not the rule to go by.

P.S. 80k copies shipped is a lot, I would agree. I think you think I'm some sort of hater, when I'm not. I don't think ONE MILLION COPIES sold or it's a sales flop should be the bar, but fanboys made it that way, not me. I hate knowing a small game will get bashed in sales because it's not selling like blockbusters. I still loved ICO, Okami, SotC, Persona, etc to this day for instance.

I can't wait to play this either, it looks like a great homage epecially with all the in game parodies and jokes. I grew up on NES and later SNES, and I played every Zelda, so I'm looking forward to whatever these crafty developers have thrown in the game for guys like us that know to look for a good joke. :P

It looks fun! :P The commercial based on the old Spice commercial was pretty funny.:P

Alan Wake is going to be fantastic as well, but Alan Wake's hype is truly astronomical, I don't think any game in SW can touch Alan Wake's super hype right now. It's got so much hype, it's both considered the new Console Graphics King as well as AAAE uber exclusive game. Alan Wake, Remedy's 6 year in the making OPUS is going to be a rockin' game, no doubt, but 3D Dot Heroes is lucky to even be coming stateside to be honest. This game is not going to grab Joe Walmart into buying it. It's a tiny fun game made for a small demographic.

Yeah that Old Spice commercial was pretty funny. I've never really played a Zelda game so this will be an introduction to the genre.

I'm thinking A, probably a 7.5. Still darn excited for this game though. It looks pretty darn fun, and plus it's only 40 bucks.
