These are the basic controls for the game. The combat abilities themselves will be described later on in the thread.

Basic Controls (Nero):

Left Analogue Stick = Movement
Right Analogue Stick = Camera Control
R1 = Lock On
R2 = -------
L1 = -------
L2 = Exceed (Charge the EX Gauge)
Select = Taunt
Start = Pause
Triangle = Sword
Square = Gun
X = Jump
O = Devil Bringer

Basic Controls (Dante):

Directional Pad = ****change
Left Analogue Stick = Movement
Right Analogue Stick = Camera Control
R1 = Lock On
R2 = Devil Arms
L1 = Devil Trigger
L2 = Firearms
Select = Taunt
Start = Pause
Triangle = Sword
Square = Gun
X = Jump
O = ****abilities

Taunting:

When you press "Select", Nero is able to taunt his enemies. Taunts include:

"Scum!"
"Be Gone!"

As you may notice, these are the same taunts used by Vergil in Devil May Cry 3. A coincidence or something more?

Dante however, taunts in a similar fashion to his Devil May Cry 3 taunts. Taunts include:

"Come on!"

The castle town of Fortuna, situated on the coast, plays host to a distinctive culture centered around a unique religion. It is home to the Order of the Sword, a religious organization that worships the Legendary Dark Knight Sparda, a demon that rejected his lineage and fought against his own kind on behalf of humanity. Like Sparda, the Order of the Sword has decreed its desire to eliminate all demon kind and established a special brigade of Holy Knights to carry out this cause.

However, the Devil Hunter Dante had other plans for the group - suddenly appearing and executing its members.

According to Capcom, the main reason why Nero attempts to kill Dante is because Dante killed his friend who was a demon. Unfortunately, Nero had no idea that his friend was of the enemy's kind.

Devil May Cry 4 will feature a new playable character known as Nero. However, this doesn't mean that Dante will take a backseat...oh no. Both will be playable and both will take the leading roles.

Devil May Cry 4 was initially planned to be a PS2 game, made by another team. PS3 coming up made them ditch that idea and convince the management to assign the Devil May Cry 3 team for it instead.

Devil May Cry 4 will be taking the best parts of Devil May Cry and Devil May Cry 3 and roll them together for a brilliant action title. The gameplay is very solid, polished and responsive easily destroying the likes of Genji etc.

The interaction with the scenaries or the puzzles will be little as they want to center the game about the fun of the combat experience.

There will also be more emphasis on the flow/progression of the story due to the appearance of Nero and his relationships with other people in the game. "conflict/drama opportunities" will ensue including Nero and his relationship with Kyrie.

Devil May Cry 4 will be constantly running at 720p resolution as well as 60fps. This will ensure maximised visuals, especially during the most hectic of battles.

General Information from Hideaki Itsuno:

Devil May Cry is also about stylish drama sequences between the action, and Itsuno and crew seem to have this covered as well. Like part 3, DMC4 will have its event scenes directed by movie director Yuji Shimomura. The story volume will be greater than that of the previous games, Itsuno noted to the magazine.

The game's setting is based in a huge city known as Fortuna.

Difficulty-wise, Kobayashi feels that at first, he wanted to make DMC4 easier, but then realized this would go against the wishes of many fans. So instead, he wants to make the game 'easier to control' and 'get into' instead of making the game easier strategically. Itsuno (the game's director) concering the difficulty says, DMC4 will be a hard game, "there is no turning back now" is how the translated quote goes.

The overall 'game' will drastically increase in DMC4, says the director Itsuno. Saying that it will have more weapons/moves/bosses/enemies/speed/sound/design/scene atmosphere than DMC1, DMC2, and DMC3 combined.

Capcom did say that it would be wise to own a HD TV and 5.1 to enjoy the game to its fullest visual extent. Whether this will upscale the game to 1080p from its native 720p is unknown.

Difficulty Level:

For the start of the game (with Nero), the first two difficulty levels available are:

Human

and...

Devil Hunter

Kobayashi-san also stated that a much more hardcore difficulty level will be available for the real pros.

****Accolades:

The ****accolades this time round will determine on how well you defeat your enemies. Using a similar method to the Karma system in Ninja Gaiden, your ****accolades will be determined by the amounts of points you accumulate through combat.

Deadly!
Carnage!
Brutal!
Atomic!
Smokin'!
SmaSh Hit!
Smokin' Sick Style!

More Drama:

According to Itsuno, Devil May Cry 4 will feature much more drama than usual. In regards to this, he stated that there may well be civilians running around on-screen during the most dramatical moments in the game. This would add more realism and a true sense of that you're not alone whilst playing.

As for the dramatical moments in the storyline, these are evident in the cutscenes shown in many recent trailers.

Cars and other vehicles will also be seen along the streets of Fortuna to add to that realistic atmosphere.

Capcom aim to make the environments so realistic and lifelike that you will feel like you're actually living in Fortuna.

Fortuna:

Devil May Cry 4 takes place in Fortuna, a vast coastal fortress city on a remote island. Fortuna is a big city with a European ****to it as the usual gothic architecture of the previous games looks a lot less focused on here.

The civilians of Fortuna worship Dante's father and Legendary Dark Knight, Sparda. Fortuna also houses a big church which has been set up with the purpose of worshipping Sparda.

Ferrum Hills:

Ferrum Hills is a little village situated on the outskirts of Fortuna in the mountain region. Nero arrives here only to find Berial, the Fire Hell God.

Snowy Landscape:

A snowy landscape which is reminiscent of the snowy area in the very first Devil May Cry 4 images. Fortuna Castle resides here.

This area is where you first meet the Frost enemies - enemies that also appeared in the first Devil May Cry.

Fortuna Castle:

Not much is known about this castle. It's unknown as to who lives here. Nero meets Gloria for the first time outside of the castle.

Mitis Forest:

This vast and gorgeous forest is where the plant demon, Echidna, resides.

Music has always been a big thing in the Devil May Cry series. Devil May Cry 3 featured some amazing work from Shootie HG including the massively popular track "Devils Never Cry". Now, Devil May Cry 4 is in development and people are awaiting what music will be present...

Official Soundtrack release date:

A special soundtrack will be released on the 19th of December. Be sure to pick it up! The soundtrack consists of the following tracks:

1. Out of Darkness(Prologue)/AUBREY ASHBURN
2. The Time Has Come/JASON "SHYBOY" ARNOLD OF HYPNOGAJA
3. The Hell Gate
4. Stage I
5. Sworn Through Swords/SHOOTIE HG OF HOSTILE GROOVE
6. STAGE II
7. Temptation
8. Awaken
9. The Viper
10. The idol of the "Time and Space"

15. Shall Never Surrender(End Roll)/JASON "SHYBOY" ARNOLD OF HYPNOGAJA

Main theme:

The main theme will be performed by L'arc En Ciel, a Japanese Rock band. The name of the track is currently unknown.

Chorus of Sparda:

The background music of the Devil May Cry 4 site is the chorus of Sparda, written and spoken in Italian.

The chorus you hear now is just a short version, as the full version will be in the game.

Combat Music:

The combat music varies depending on the situation. "Lock & Load" from Devil May Cry will return as well but performed by ShootieHG and remixed.

A remix to "Devils Never Cry" also seems to be present.

Nero:

Voice by: Johnny Yong Bosch

Nero is the new main character of Devil May Cry 4 with Dante having to share his spotlight now. Nero is a sardonic character and doesn't like to be messed around.

Nero is a fan of guns and swords like Dante. He wields a big sword known as the Red Queen like Dante, a revolver know as the Blue Rose, he has a long coat like Dante but navy blue, and he has medium-length white hair. It has also been confirmed that Nero is NOT a son of Sparda but his striking resemblance to Dante will be explained.

Nero also sports a demonic right hand which contains many different powers to use against enemies including drawing in enemies and sending enemies flying. The awakening of these powers in Nero will apparently make up one of the plot elements in Devil May Cry 4.

Nero lives on the remote island of Fortuna which is the setting for most of the game. He belongs to an order that worships Sparda and fight demons in his name. Nero does "Special jobs" for the order cleaning up "messy situtations". Because of Nero's nature, the Order prefers to send him out to do the jobs alone as Nero prefers to be a lone wolf. This religious group called the Kyoudan Kishi, or Order of the Sword, is a religious order which protects the secrets and powers of demons from the world. In Fortuna, the people here believe that Sparda is a god and that the order that Nero works for wants to undo Sparda's seal. Sparda was actually a fuedal lord in Fortuna, hence the worship.

The reason why Nero wants to kill Dante is because his entire unit was slaughtered by Dante. When Dante also kills the priest in the church of the Order, Nero really shows Dante what he's capable of. There is more to the storyline than meets the eye though...

Nero CG Render

Dante:

Voice by: Reuben Langdon

Dante returns yet isn't alone when it comes to being the main character. Dante will be more mature/grim and less party crazy, but still retain his wise-cracking, unflappable personality.

However, even though Dante isn't recieving as much focus as Nero during the game's advertisement, he will still be a main playable character and take up around half of the game's playtime.

Dante will be playable when the game permits it through the storyline etc. However, you will be starting as Nero in the game. Some of the Dante's areas differ to Nero's.

Dante's age in Devil May Cry 4 is 28/29 years old as the game follows shortly after the first game.

He still sports his trademark red coat and Rebellion sword. Dante's facial appearance is stated to be cooler, older and will sport a lovely beard.

Dante kills Nero's unit which is why Nero could be looking to kill Dante in Fortuna. Dante did so because one of Nero's friends was a demon. It's also revealed that many of the Knights in the Order are demons too.

Dante has a big role to play in the game and is backed by his team-mates, Trish and Lady.

Dante CG Render

Lady:

Voice by: Kari Wahlgren

Lady was last seen working for Dante during the events of the Devil May Cry anime which lead up to Devil May Cry 4. It seems that Lady is continuing to work alongside Dante and Trish and will aid him in Fortuna as well.

Trish:

Voice by: Unknown

Trish, along with Lady, was working alongside Dante during the Devil May Cry anime. Her and Lady both aid Dante in missions and both look set to continue this trend by helping Dante in Fortuna.

Kyrie:

Voice by: Laura Napoli

Kyrie was first shown off in the TGS trailer involving Nero and Dante's confrontation. Kyrie is the songstress for the Order and is also Credo's sister.

Kyrie looked after Nero when he was an orphan as Kyrie was also orphaned. They grew up together like brother and sister.

Kyrie's and Nero's relationship reaches boiling point at some point during the game after she is kidnapped by the Order. Agnus plays a huge role in turning the Order against Nero due to his possession of the Devil Bringer. One of Nero's main goals in the game is to find and rescue Kyrie.

Credo:

Voice by: Daniel Southworth

Leader of the Holy Knights, a strict man of justice and commander of hundreds of subordinates. Credo excels in the battlefield as the best of the Holy Knights and is admired by many. Credo is Kyrie's older brother and also sees Nero as family, but is not content with his unreliable behavior.

Under his important guise, Credo seems to display a weak mind. He ends up contributing to his sister's kidnapping and the bad things that occur within the Order.

Agnus:

Voice by: TJ Storm

Chief technology researcher of the Holy Knights. He develops demon-eradicating weapons for the Holy Knights. He seems to be introverted and workaholic, rarely showing up in any event. Because of this, only few people of the cult know about him.

However, Agnus seems to have other motives as he not only explains to the Order that Nero shouldn't be trusted, especially with his Devil Bringer, but he also contributes to the capture of Kyrie. The Order seem to be hiding a lot of information and Agnus looks like he's behind much of what's going on.

Gloria:

Voice by: Danielle Burgio

Executive of the Holy Knights, the only female executive, a position she managed to reach shortly after joining the cult, for which some people appear to suspect of her. Still, the knights recognize her superiority because of her unusual and striking appearance.

It's unknown what her place is in the Order as far as loyalty is concerned. She could also be in agreement with Agnus and the Order that Nero is not someone to be trusted or she could prove to be a useful ally to Nero. She also meets Dante but whether or not this results in a battle is unknown.

Sanctus:

Voice by: Liam O'Brien

Sanctus is the Pope of the Order of the Sword. He was a successful Pope who relied on Fortuna's populace and cared for the city. He was brutally murdered when Dante crashes in on the Order's ceremony at the church and shoots him in the head.

Vergil:

Capcom and Gameinformer sort of touch upon the unavailability of Vergil in DMC4. Gameinformer states that Vergil is an integral part of the DMC's franchise, as proven by DMC3SE, and they believe that Vergil still has a part to play in DMC4. Capcom has this to say, "We are not ready to say what role Vergil himself plays in the story, but the existence of Vergil as a character is something very important to the story of the DMC games. That's something that I don't think is going to end!"

However, in the May edition of PSM, they stated that they want to continue to grow Dante as a character, while introducing Nero as a new character. Despite the fan's love for Vergil, they want to continue forward with Nero/Dante as the leads of the series.

Kobayashi-san mentioned to GamesRadar that Vergil won't be in the game yet speculation still continues to run riot.

The final trailer of 2007 reveals that Vergil could yet have an indirect role in the game due to the inclusion of his trademark sword, the Yamato.

Nero's Arsenal

Red Queen:

The Red Queen is a specialty weapon designed by the Order of the Sword. Its handle resembles a motorcycle accelerator, twisting the Red Queen's grip releases a powerful propellant along the edge of the sword. The explosive force of this propellant can turn even the weakest person into an agent of destruction.

However, this power has seen an upgrade due to modifications conducted by Nero, making it impossible for the untrained to handle.

This accelerator enables Nero to use Exceed, an ability that allows Nero to charge up his sword and his attacks resulting in deadly and blazing results.

Blue Rose:

A large caliber, six-shot revolver modified by Nero from existing weapons. Equipped with double barrels, it can fire two shots at once, allowing it to take down multiple enemies, or even those wrapped in strong armor. The Order of the Sword feels that the sword is the only true honorable weapon and that guns are vulgarities, making Nero the only member of the Order to use such a weapon.

Dante's Arsenal

Rebellion:

Dante's main staple sword which was a gift from his father, Sparda. This sword contains powerful demonic energy which was responsible for awakening Dante's Devil Trigger in Devil May Cry 3. This weapon is the base for many offensive abilities that Dante possesses.

Gilgamesh:

A new weapon for the Devil May Cry franchise. Gilgamesh is the name of a set of gauntlets and grieves that function in a similar manner to Beowulf and Ifrit from the previous games. Gilgamesh's element appears to be a more mechanical/light form. Gilgamesh also features a face mask, forearm blades on the gauntlets and rotating blades on the grieves to add more power to the weapon's already-devasting combos. Many attacks such as Killer Bee and Kick13 return from the previous games on top of brand new abilites.

Lucifer:

Lucifer is a weapon shaped like a shoulder-mounted skull complete with long bladed arms. Lucifer allows Dante to project spectral blades of energy and control them. This can result in offensive and defensive abilities as well as tactical strikes depending on each formation Dante may choose to create. Lucifer works in a similar manner to Vergil's Summoned Swords from Devil May Cry 3 but far more extensively. Dante can also use singular rapier-like swords for melee combat on top of the controllable spectral blades.

Pandora's Box:

Pandora's Box is a briefcase that Dante can carry in to combat. When opened up, it will stun and kill any enemies in the surrounding area. However, performing button combinations can result in the briefcase opening up and revealing several different forms:

* Chaingun
* Explosive Darts
* Cannon
* Laser
* Mobile missile platform

There is a gauge that will need to be powered up on top of the button combinations in order to use the most powerful forms of Pandora's Box.

Ebony & Ivory:

Dante's own customised handguns, Ebony & Ivory. Ebony is primarily black, while Ivory is primarily white. Unlike normal guns, these require no reloading and can also be fired as fast as bullets stream out of a machine gun. Dante can even use these guns to "juggle" enemies in the air. Although weaker than other firearms, Ebony & Ivory are still useful guns and will remain a staple in Dante's arsenal.

Shotgun:

Dante also wields a shotgun in the Devil May Cry games which he finds. Just like Ebony & Ivory, it seems that this weapon has no need for reloading. It's more stronger than Ebony & Ivory but the downside is its slow shooting time. It's useful for crowd-clearing though.

There is an event/cutscene before the starting of the game where Nero's arm is possessed by an evil force - an occurence he works hard to conceal, going as far as to wear his arm in a sling to keep it from sight. Of course, the time comes when it can no longer be hidden and Nero discovers, along with the player, the immense combat possibilities of this demonic appendage.

Nero is able to perform a huge variety of moves with many abilities depending on the enemy he's fighting. For example, Nero will swing a Frost enemy around his head before launching it or he will grab Berial's face and smash it in to the ground.

Nero seems to have enough tricks that you won't want to go back to the ****c hero, Dante. Nero has access to a new array of attacks using his "Devil Right Hand." Nero's right hand can be used to pull distant enemies in and send enemies that are close by flying away.

The main change is the inclusion of the Devil Arm/Buster move, which is executed by pressing O. By pressing O by itself, you can execute a simple punch/throw move which will slam enemies into the ground. However, the fun really starts when you start using the Devil Arm move, which is done by pressing O in conjunction with the analog stick. Nero will then extend his arm out, and a ghoulish arm will extend even further, grab an enemy (or enemies) and reel them in for an extended combo. This works not only on the ground, but in the air as well. You can easily jump up and then extend the Devil Arm and start an air combo, then finish off with the Buster, which will slam them back into the ground. Not only is this an effective way to continue combos, but it also helps you clear out enemies faster; you can actually grab multiple enemies at the same time if they're bunched together. You can even Snatch an enemy and perform attacks with your sword at the same time.

Initially the arm manuevers will only set enemies up (throw them up in the air for juggles, via single button input) but later in the game they will do damage as well.

The arm is not just another weapon added to the DMC arsenal, it completely changes the way DMC is played. It's about positioning as well as damaging enemies, crowd controlling and crowd destroying. The way that the new Arm game play is managed is sort of the anti-thesis of Vergil's Dark Slayer. After leveling it up, you are able to manuever it a variety of ways, including pulling enemies towards you, throwing them away, bringing down enemies from the sky and smacking them, or tossing them up in the air for juggles. Instead of you going towards/away from the enemy or you manipulating yourself, you are manipulating the enemy and moving them towards/away from you.

An example of how the arm works in practical application a Stinger example was used for the fans (this more or less confirms that Nero has a Stinger type move for Red Queen). The quickness of the Devil Arm allows the player to completely negate the Stinger knockback, meaning as soon as you pull off Stinger, you can pull out the Devil Arm to bring the enemy back to you! Stinger is now changed from a combo finisher to a combo starter! Gameinformer flourishes over the idea of chaining multiple Stingers together for some really fancy combos with the Devil Arm.

It seems that scenes such as this is when you obtain new Devil Bringer abilities. In this case, Nero obtains "Grim Grip".

The Devil Bringer can also be use to get past obstacles and other things such as enemy shields etc. When Nero uses it on particular enemies, he can also use their weapons and attack back with them.

Nero's Devil Trigger functions in a similar manner to Dante's Doppelganger. A blue spectral spirit emerges and fights alongside Nero.

Nero's Demonic Spirit:

Capcom's Gamer's Day revealed interesting information on a new ability of Nero's Devil Bringer that allows Nero to conjure up a demonic spirit that helps Nero in battle. When using your sword attacks, the demonic spirit will unleash a barrage of powerful and deadly attacks that are double the strength of Nero's himself. When using gun attacks, the demonic spirit will create energy swords similar to Vergil's Summoned Swords that can be fired off at a foe.

It seems that this spirit is indeed Nero's equivalent of Dante's Devil Trigger with the Devil Bringer being responsible for this spirit...or even vice-versa as it's also stated that this spirit is the true essence of the Devil Bringer and responsible for its creation and attachment to Nero.

As for Dante, he retains his Devil Trigger (obviously). His Rebellion form is a more realistic version of the form seen in Devil May Cry 3.

BOSSES

Devil May Cry 4's Main Enemy:

The real enemy of of Devil May Cry 4 is as of yet unknown to Nero.

Dante:

The first boss in Devil May Cry 4 is indeed, Dante.

Dante attacks the Order near the beginning of the game and Nero proceeds to fight him in the church. It's also the battle that results in Nero's Devil Bringer awakening fully.

Dante uses a whole manner of trademark abilities including Stinger and Ebony & Ivory-related attacks. Dante will also prove a challenge to Nero as he is capable of cancelling out Nero's gunshots with his own and is also capable of rolling and jumping away from Nero's attacks. His most deadliest combo ends with Million Stabs and is capable of inflicting a lot of damage to Nero.

Nero is able to use his Devil Bringer in this battle in which he can grab Dante in mid-air and follow up with a powerful Helm Breaker.

It's also unknown as to whether or not Dante will be fought more than once. This seems likely considering Nero's stance and view on Dante.

Berial:

Berial was a Prince to the Emperor of the Underworld but when the Emperor was sealed away, Berial was left wandering. I'm guessing this Emperor is of course, Mundus.

Berial resembles a fire Gigas from ancient mythology. He originates from the Underworld and also had a run in with Sparda thousands of years ago in the human realm. Berial also compares Nero to Sparda before the initial boss fight.

Berial is about the size of a small building, and just being near other structures, will cause them to catch on fire. It's unwise to get up, close and personal with him.

However, using your guns will result in Berial's shield weakening. This can also help in Nero getting to Berial's face as that's his weak point.

Nero's Devil Bringer allows him to use exclusive combos on Berial:

* Grab Berial's face, lift him up in mid-air and then smashing him in to the ground.
* Uppercutting Berial and then punch him, sending him flying to the other side of the area.

When Berial gets angry, he will perform a roar that will knock Nero back.

Berial is also capable of many deadly moves such as fire columns reminiscent of Phantom's in Devil May Cry. He also uses a load of different sword combos with his giant sword along with jumping around in order to flatten you.

Echidna:

Echidna originally starts off as the giant serpent seen in the TGS trailer. She is originally fought in the jungle area in the air as Nero rides on her before being fought on foot in an open-planned area of the jungle as Dante.

Her appearance changes the more she releases these red buds of some sort (as seen in the clip in the trailer where she is flying over the jungle and these weird red buds are spat out of the main body). It seems that in the end, this is the reason why she lands in a clearing in the jungle and changes in to the spider-like creature that Dante fights.

The core of the creature opens up to reveal a female creature and is seen as the weak point.

One Winged Dark Knight:

The One Winged Dark Knight is fought on top of what seems to be the Order's HQ. Only Nero fights this creature and not much is known about it. It seems to be the general leader of the White Knights that all work for the Order.

It utilises a massive sword in combat and later on, uses a giant spear. Nero can take advantage of the weapons with the Devil Bringer. Not only that but Nero can also use melee attacks with the Devil Bringer in order to perform punches and uppercuts on the Knight.

Bael

Little is known about Bael, and it seems as if he will be taking a backseat to the rest of the bosses. He is not as big as some of the other Bosses, and his animations seem not as diverse as the others as well. In gamespot's last 'Hands On' with dmc4, they mention Nero fights Bael and that he "squares off against [Bael] in the open courtyard [as] a large toad creature ... As opposed to Berial, Bael uses mainly ice-based attacks, and also has two rather unique "lures" which are used to confuse players." So...he's a tricky little bastard eh!(random sidenote im not canadian)

Capcom did confirm that there will be no 2-player co-op.

However, Devil May Cry 4 will feature online rankings and an achievement system for all versions of the game.

Itsuno also shared some details on how the game is tapping the power of the PS3. The visuals attempt to deliver a satisfying feel of being in the air. Nero's right arm actions are, according to Itsuno, something that could not be done on current machines.

Also, he has said that Devil May Cry 4 will not be perfect as it's only using 50% of the PlayStation 3's power. Itsuno also states that he looks as Devil May Cry 4 as a sort of practice, possibly hinting that future Devil May Cry games will be top quality.

The difference between the PS3 version specifically and the other versions is that the game will support the SIXAXIS controller on top of rumble features that are also present in the Xbox 360 version.

Because the game is also being released on the Xbox 360 and PC, Capcom stated that each version will use the console it's on to the best of its ability meaning that the game won't be half-assed on each console but instead, top quality depending on each console's hardware.

Lastly, using the HDD of the PS3/Xbox 360, you will be able to install the game on to it enabling load times to be cut down and removed completely.

Graphics-wise, the game will be running at 720p and 60fps.

If you feel that you have more questions to ask which would be suitable for this section of the thread, please don't hesitate to PM me. Thanks.

Answers by: carbonox_ratchet

In regards to a release date, when does Devil May Cry 4(DMC 4) come out?

Devil May Cry 4's is expected to be released on February 5th, 2008 in North America.

Also, the demo could be released in January.

How much will DMC 4 be on sale for?

Devil May Cry 4 will most likely be sold at the same price as other PS3 & Xbox 360 titles - $59.99

How many players does DMC 4 support?

Devil May Cry 4 only supports one player.

Will it be developed for consoles other than the PlayStation®3?

Devil May Cry 4 will be developed for the Xbox 360 and PC as well as PlayStation 3.

Where does DMC 4 take place?

Devil May Cry 4 takes place in a city called Fortuna, where the townsfolk worship the legendary dark knight, Sparda - also Dante's father.

I heard that you will not play as Dante in this game but instead as a person named "Nero". Is this true?

Nero has been confirmed as a new main character for the game alongside Dante. Although Nero takes up more of the spotlight because he's brand new, Dante will still be playable and not left in the cold. The game will be played through both characters' eyes as half of the game belongs to each.

Besides Nero, who are the new characters?

Sanctus, Credo, Agnus, Gloria and Kyrie are brand new characters to Devil May Cry 4. Trish and Lady also return.

What will having Nero as the main character do to the game in terms of controls and mechanics?

Nero will offer a completely new side to the combat aspects of Devil May Cry thanks to his Devil Bringer. This will ensure that he will be completely different to Dante who relies on his ****system. Two hugely in-depth combat engines. This is only beneficial.

Speaking of controls and mechanics, what special abilities does Nero's arm have?

Nero's arm - the Devil Bringer - is a mysterious entity which allows Nero to perform grapple attacks from far away and other moves and attacks. The arm can also be used to slam your enemies in to the ground. The most appealing feature it has is that the arm enables you to link combos together, even after knocking an enemy far away. Nero is also capable of conjuring up a demonic spirit that helps in battle. It is believed that this spirit is Nero's equivalent of Dante's Devil Trigger.

What weapons and abilities will be featured in the game and how will they work?

So far, only five new weapons (aside from Dante's staples, Rebellion and Ebony & Ivory) have been confirmed.

The Red Queen is a powerful sword owned by Nero and also modified in a powerful manner. Twisting the Red Queen's grip releases a powerful propellant along the edge of the sword. This gives the sword an explosive-like force which can turn the tide in battle.

The Blue Rose on the other hand is a single revolver which is capable of taking out two enemies at one thanks to its ability to fire two bullets at once.

These two weapons make up Nero's arsenal.

With Dante, he has access to three new weapons so far.

Gilgamesh is a set of gauntlets and grieves similar to Ifrit and Beowulf. These enable Dante to perform a vast array of powerful hand-to-hand attacks using what seems to be a mixture of fire and light elements.

Lucifer is a jetpack/wing-like weapon that enables Dante to create energy swords that can be used to attack and defend.

Pandora's Box is a briefcase that can open up in to a whole manner of different guns.

Since this entry is on the PlayStation®3 and Xbox 360 - both new generation consoles, what can we expect to be different from the other games?

The PlayStation 2 is technically impossible to develop for when it came to Devil May Cry 4. The console would not be able to sustain the power required for the game. Because of the PlayStation 3's hardware, Capcom can develop a game that exceeds all the other 3 games put together in literally every manner. The same applies to the other versions of Devil May Cry 4 too.

The last DMC entry was pretty difficult. How will this one be regarding difficulty?

The difficulty level of Devil May Cry 3 will remain for the veterans, as well as the learning curve being easier the newcomers to the game. This way, each difficulty level would - or should - appeal to a huge variety of different gamers.

My goodness , what an amazing thread. I might actually read through some of that wall-of-textbecause I am interested in the game ........... but we seriously don't need an official hype thread for this game because it is multiplatform. It will have AA hype , and an A score becauseit will suffer from an identity crisis.

I think this game will be AAA to me. But since Gamespot gave Mass Effect an 8.5... Who knows what they'll give it.

Honestly...I really don't believe its going to be better than DMC1. DMC1 is my favorite game of all time, though, so that might obstruct my opinion. DMC2 was dissapointing. DMC3 was awesome, but the devil trigger abilities were horrid. DMC4 is looking to rekindle the fire, and imo it will woop DMC3'S @SS ;)

No I'm not. DMC isn't as good as NG.

People need to learn the difference between NG and DMC. NG and GOW are comparable because they both have dial a combo system. DMC is not a dial a combo system, you build your own moves and combine them in your own way. Your statement is like comparing Onimusha to God OF War, 2 completely different styles. Just because they use swords, doesnt necessarily mean they should be compared. Even so, the devs of DMC4 stated they are not competing, they only making to fans specifications, not to compete with turds like Itagaki. Even that aside, David Jaffe stated even his game is not competing with Devil May Cry because they are so different.

I agree about the styles. Imagine running of the side of the wall using trickster***switching to gunslinger***using bullet rain***switching to swordmaster***using dance macabre***switching to royal guard***Deflecting an incoming attack at the last second. Just an example, but you get the idea :D

treyskillz

No co-op. That was written some time ago by game informer, and ill edit that out. There will be achievments for both PS3 and 360 (yes DMC4 has home trophies as well as achievements for PS3). There will also be online leaderboards.

you know im glad that they still have the same controls from the previous games...like when i play dmc3 for a while and then go back and play some dmc1, i keep pressing triangle to attack somebody but i keep on jumping and im like..."WTF!!!....oh right" lol. but dmc1 is probably my favourite, dmc3 has good gameplay and great cutscenes...but dmc1 has a much cooler feel to it. dmc2....ehhh....i just like it cause dante looked cool when he jumped around and started shooting dudes :P.

but its pretty stupid to say that the 360 version will be better. so far all you have previews saying that they either look identical or that the ps3 version looks and plays better. i think they both look great and the same...just tiny tiny details that are different, but you probly wont be able to tell unless you pause the game in the middle of a cutscene and start looking around just to see if its better < thats just idiotic.

I approve of this thread ^,^

I can't wait to get my hands on Gilgamesh and Pandora's Box. Those weapons really intrigue me. Can't wait for this game!

The game doesn't look like anything big, but this thread says otherwise! Great job, whoever on the PS boards did it!
