In a press release, the NPD wrote, "PS4 and Xbox One continue to see success with cumulative sales of the two consoles through the first five month currently totaling more than double that of their predecessors, the PS3 and Xbox 360."

But the more interesting fact is that: "In March 2014, Sony’s PS4 led hardware sales for the third month in a row."

That's an especially surprising statistic since the Xbox One/PC exclusive Titanfall was the top-selling game in the US for March. Overall, the Xbox One sold 311,000 units, and the Xbox 360 sold 111,000. But Sony recently announced, that they had sold 7 million consoles worldwide.

The NPD Group has issued its March video game sales report, revealing a 28 percent drop in software sales (including PC) to $432 million. Hardware, however, soared 78 percent on the strength of the new consoles, totaling $395 million. Accessories were also up 4 percent to $224 million. Overall, total industry sales increased 3 percent to $1.03 billion.

That logic worked on the 360 a system that had no games for over 3 years so for it to work on the PS4 ( a system which probably has more games than the entire game library on the 360 for the past 2 years ) would only make sense.

If the Xbox One doesn't pull off a win against the PS4 in March then Microsoft may have some serious issues. I'll explain why:

The Xbox One and PS4 are probably both going to sell over 10M each this year. (20M+ of next gen consoles). Developers and publishers aren't going to wait a year or two to make plans. See AC:Unity, The Division, Batman:AK etc. That being said, the PS4 is the leading next gen console and it'll reap all of the rewards early on with ease - particularly from next gen multiplats.

It should be interesting. I expect Xbox One to have sold the most this month if the hype around the Xbox One's version of TitanFall was anything to go by.
