Well here it is boys, your world exclusive first review of the 2010 game of the year. You probably wont get another review till it ships.

The Verdict

+Enveloping Universe filled with interesting characters and revealing side stories.

+Outstanding flexible combat in gorgeous environments

-Main story is a bit dissapointing; Dull element mining and hacking

?Why do characters cry oil slicks?

Other Notes...

The written review is very good, giving praise to the games incredible polish and massive improvements over the original in most every way. It makes not of highly satisfying battle sequences and "on your knees, in front of the tv" moments throughout.

The experience system is different, delivering bulk experience for mission completion rather than after each individual kill. Each character is rewarded through different missions with different skills and upgrades.

The reviewer noted that he was dissapointed with the "loot". The original had an abundance and the sequal doesnt have enough, BUT you would constantly be experimenting with weapon upgrades.

Mining Planets was kind of a drag.

Each character is a brilliant fleshed out dynamic story waiting to be uncovered. The reviewer noted that while its hard to match a main story that literally fleshes the universe out, like the first game, the side stories, missions and characters more than make up for it. The best fun in the game can be found in these moments.

Incredibly replayable...

These are general impressions the review gave in the review. Im paraphrasing. The game looks and plays like absolute butter.... Can not Wait!!!!

Post questions you have about the review and I'll try and answer if you want more detail.

I felt the same way at first... but it is a different reviewer than last time, who self admittedly LOVES sci fi rpg and in all honesty, if ME2 is an improvement in every way over the original can we really be sad? my god NO!

If OXM doesn't give a 10 to such a big title, we know for sure it isn't that amazing (probably still great though).

if that was the case why wouldnt they just give it a 10. OXM is pretty fair from what I have seen, they gave MGS4 a 10.

That's encouraging, but to be honest, I'd get the game even if it scored badly. I've already been hooked on mass effect's story and universe. I need more!

Yep, just for the record the original Killzone scored a 9.5/10 on the Official PS magazine. 'nuff said I heard the story of ME2 leaves something to be desired, but I guess it's ok since it's only the second episode (Halo 2 anyone?).

8.5-9.0 at best on GS. Mass Effect was AA, Mass Effect 2 will probably follow suite.

hahaha... yeah, it does. This whole thread turned into typical fanboy hate rubbish. "OXM sucks" and "AA meterial", what the hell are you talking about. It just scored a 9.5 from a major publication that gets a lot of reviews right on the money. His DIRECT QUOTE ABOUT STORY IS AS FOLLOWS...

"The middle chapters of a trilogy ussually have one big obstacle : They can't exactly offer up the intoxicating discovery of a new universe, or the gratifying closure of a final chapter." he goes on to say that discovering "delicious truths about the collectors and reapers proves Irrisistable"

So you can probably stop with the ridiculous, "story sucks" garbage.

you have to take a review like this with a grain of salt, its not really that smart to just assume that they are right on the money, its a magazine thats made for the xbox 360, its not surprising that they would give this a good score, if it comes out and gets 9.5 ish's by the majority good for oxm they got it right on the money, but you have to take reviews from console magazines with a grain of salt till other reviews start to come out, then you can speculate

Have you tried it? I thought it would be your kind of thing. Your post history suggests you're a big fan of RPGs. Is it just JRPGs you like? Or maybe I have you confused with another user :P Anyway, I predict a 9 - 9.5 for PC, and 8.5 - 9 for the 360 here at GS. I'll be picking up the 360 version regardless of score, since I played the first on the 360 before it even came out on the PC.

So you can probably stop with the ridiculous, "story sucks" garbage.

Rofl sorry for the poorly informed statement, but don't exagerate what I said. I never mentioned the word "bad" or "suck", I think the story is a main point from where we left ME1 and I'm just saying that ME2 doesn't give every answers. I just wanted to say to take reviews from these "official" magazines with a grain of salt as they may not always be as professional as we hope they are sometimes. I guess just because I have a PSN sig automatically makes me a cow

I was extremelty hyped for this game and I look forward to it getting AAA. But until I see a Eurogamer or at least a IGN review I won't take this one seriously.

8.5-9.0 at best on GS. Mass Effect was AA, Mass Effect 2 will probably follow suite.KukicAdo
I disagree, look at Uncharted(8.0) Uncharted 2(9.5). I think it will score 9-9.5 here on GS if it is as good as it looks, i loved the first one.

I beg to differ. I believe it will get a 9.5. Similar to that of Dragon Age for PC.

Wow if an xbox magazine can't even give its own exclusive a 10/10 then I fear for ME2's fate in the hands of other reviewers.

Haha, so now it's an exclusive? : P. Make up your mind! It's already faired well enough, and it's still got an excellent chance at AAA.
