So now you can buy weapons/unlocks for your kit that you would normally earn by gaining xp/levelling up.
Anyone else feel this is really cheap and sad that the Battlefield series is being treated like this?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
they have been doing this for years, but because its battlefield 3 its somehow more relevant than it was originally?
people pay for it, this will keep happening, SW is a drop in the gaming ocean.
I dont like it, but whatever. People can pay all the money they want, I will still kick their ass in BF3 :)

Unlocks can be better, for example unlocking anti tank mines. This isn't a simple case of game not being balanced. It is just that it takes away the purpose of levelling up or progressing. Not seeing the issue. If the game is remotely balanced being able to buy upgrades shouldn't make up for a lack of skill (and if buying upgrades does make up for a lack of skill, well, the game has bigger issues than teh microtransactions).

No, not really. If people are dumb enough to take short cuts to buy better weapons with real money, then they should be exploited. It's not hurting a single person who wants to play the game normally.

Who cares? If people are stupid enough to pay for unlocks that would otherwise be free as the result of simply playing the videogame, more power to them.
That's not cheap, that ruins the game. I want to unlock the weapons and all the accessories for them. It's one of the main reasons I play a game like Battlefield 3. Doing this just says "ya, just pay us more money and you can have all weapons unlocked." That won't make said player better at the game. Just like money can't buy you talent, money can't buy you skill (Unless your playing Skyrim) :P
To be fair most of those games are FTP games. In my opinion it is kind of hard to justify charging people for weapons after they have spent money buying the game.they have been doing this for years, but because its battlefield 3 its somehow more relevant than it was originally?

I know right, that is the point I was trying to make. Not about how people will start to "own" me or anything, but just that unlocking is a major part of the game. To me it sounds just as silly as Blizz giving instant level 80 to new comers. That's not cheap, that ruins the game. I want to unlock the weapons and all the accessories for them. I did, but I do not recall unlocable weapons being sold for money. There were however some "expansions" and extras.dramaybazThose expansions, for whomever bought them, unlocked weapons for their use in games that contained people who do not have access to them. And I distinctly remember them being pretty powerful compared to the stock counterparts.
From my short time with bfbc2 and bf3 beta I can tell you whole heartedly that bf3 is nowhere e ven close to balanced. Especially if someone has their vehicle lvl maxed. The guns are also crazy imbalanced. Ump 45 beats everything regardless of range. .308 vs ump at 300 yards? UmpNot seeing the issue. If the game is remotely balanced being able to buy upgrades shouldn't make up for a lack of skill (and if buying upgrades does make up for a lack of skill, well, the game has bigger issues than teh microtransactions).

If you only played the BF3 beta, then that point is moot because by release, nothing was remotely the same in terms of weapons....and that was months ago, they've since patched weapons a million times to fine tweak everything. No weapons are overpowered, a level 1 can beat the sh!t out of a level 75 any day of the week.

The various Tiger woods games,Need For Spped and Bad company 2 all had this....its basically a paid for cheat.
Heroes was always going to be microtransaction based from day 1.
No it's not cheap,. The price is ridiculous, but let's say you started playing BF3 now, why should someone have better gear than you simply because they've been playing for longer? The unlock system in BF3 is crap and slow, people need to realise this.
New players are already at a disadvantage due to limited map knowledge.
I don't have a problem with offering paid shortcuts as long as there is a non-paid way of getting there. There will always be players who are willing to pay to skip ahead (hence the popularity of buying gold for MMORPGs); offering an official way of doing so means their money goes to the publisher rather than some third party.

Pretty much this. They did this with the Bad Company games, as well as the Skate games and Burnout: Paradise. They just want to make a quick buck, and if someone wants to deprive themselves of the satisfaction of earning them they can do that, I don't care. Battlefield 3's guns are balanced enough that it won't give anyone an advantage, just another option (except for maybe some of the jet and chopper upgrades you get later on).
