So I've been getting pretty bummed out over all the sh*tty news I've been hearing about RE6 lately. The game is looking to be even worse than RE5, which was an abomination that could have only been spawned from a place as dark and terrifying as Satan's urethra. It's been making me long for the past, that time when Resident Evil was a name to be reckoned with. I kept telling myself "don't waste your money. You've already played through RE4 six or seven times, you don't need it anymore... the glory days are over". Well I finally caved, and so doth allowed PSN to extract $19.99 from thy debit card.
As I play through this bright remnant of a time long past, I'm quickly reminded of why it was back then, and now still is, the greatest game ever made. It's pacing is simply unmatched. Most games go on for so long that they eventually lose focus, but not RE4. With Shinji Mikami and co, just as Martin Scorsese had known where he wanted to go with Goodfellas before even shooting the first frame, they knew where they wanted to go with RE4 from the very start. Even some of the best games have their fair share of pointless filler used to pad out the playtime, but not RE4. Even some of the best games have their fair share of flaws and blemishes, but not RE4.
RE4's atmosphere is so superb that it could be compared with that of the best works from author HP Lovecraft (of which influenced RE4 greatly). RE4's suspence and thrills are so perfectly timed that they could be compared with the best creations of legendary director and proclaimed "master of suspence" Alfred Hitchcock. RE4 is simply that f*cking good. When humanity is at it's end and god prepares his final judgment, and all we can do is look down at the crumbled ruins of our empire, our mortal creation... we shall silently weep over our greatest artistic achievements; achievements like the holy Bible, the Mona Lisa, the Great Wall of China, the Pyramids, Terminator 2, alcohol, Fade to Black, etc. Resident Evil 4 will rightfully be amongst these great creations of ours, and will be remembered until the end of our times... I am eternally greatfull Capcom...
