So many people bashing the Natal without knowing anything about it at all.

1. "It can only be used for party games and jumping around. It has no buttons!!!" It's just a camera people, you don't need your hands to use it. This leaves them free for a controller...be it the 360 one or a new one.

2. "Eye toy rip-off!!!" The Eye toy is just a camera. All it can do is take your photo. The Natal photo's in 3D, sensing depth. It also has a mic with voice recognition. It's like comparing a Space Ship to a Model-T.

3. "Wiimote is better!!!" I agree that the wiimote will be better supported as it's standard, and M+ will most likely be more supported as well, but last E3 when this was shown (was called the z-cam then) IGN's Wii team (Matt and Bozon) played with the camera and said it blew the wiimote out of the water and said that Nintendo would be crazy not to jump on this ASAP.

4. "Only lemmings are defending this after making fun of the wiimote and sixaxis for so long!!!" I'm not a lemming. I don't own a 360. I never will. I don't like shooters. I only own a wii, and the Natal is very impressive.

But I don't see what you can do with it if your holding the controller with both of your hands.

They'd prolly need a new controller that's one handed. Or, just hold a 360 controller with one hand. Full motion capture with an analog stick and two buttons has nearly endless implications.

well TC i don't think that #2 is correct. I'm not going to dwell on it though, because the eyetoy is total trash that must be abandonned immediately. It is pretty much useless.

Hopefully this new camera thing is good, but realistically, it is probably not that big an upgrade over the eyetoy in that it will inherit at least a few of the eyetoy's many deal killing shortcomings.

the wiimote and controllers like it, with accelerometers inside the actual controllers are the future of motion sensing. Too bad the wiimote is an early stage tech for this purpose. Hopefully wiimotion+ cures this but it's probably too late to make a serious impact. Maybe next gen we'll see some great things with motion sensing.

That's certainly the focus...but that doesn't mean we won't see some cooler games that use both camera and controls. (use an analog stick to move, move your head around to look, point at screen to aim, shoulder button shoots.)

It obviously has the potential to phase controllers out. There was no person that said they couldn't assign button functions to gestures.

motion capture camera's replacing controllers??L O L there is no way that this will happen. I mean, I can see both existing side by side. For instance, I could see a boxing game or wiisports type thing working with this. Gestures replacing buttons though?? not a chance

theres always PC and Playstation i guess.

i really don't think this will affect hardcore games on 360 too much either though... MS knows it's audience and they know they would lose alot of gamers to sony if they really backed this new casual gimmick.

if they go the fully casual route, then that will be one less console for me to buy next gen. PC and Playstation has always been my preferred systems and more true core gamers will join that corner if they do this. more core games for me i guess.

Although i think its use at the moment is gimmicky, with party games, i think the technology is very impressive. Its the start of what i think will be the future of gaming. I envision having fps games that run through a system similar to this. Where you can move in any direction and the player moves with you. The technology is at that point but you have to start somewhere.

Apparently you did not see the horrible collison detection while that girl was having an epileptic seisure while playing that dodgeball fiasco. I know I already saw a gif for this in someones sig. I have to say after rewatching the MS conference it was equal parts cringeworth and embarrasing. I will say though Alan Wake looked kick butt and I am very interested in that title but that's about it for me and the conference. Oh the beatle Rockband brought a tear to my eye but thats on all systems so you know how that goes.

The EyeToy was for the PS2...(it can be used for the PS3 though)...

anyway I'm guessing you were talking about the PSeye that was release for the PS3...

you are wrong on a couple of things....It doesn't just take pictures...in fact it is one of the most advanced Webcams out for its price....that is why alot of non PS3 owners have been trying to get some USB drivers for it to work widows Windows.....Also it has a microphone built in and a pretty advance one at that.

here are a couple of things the PSeye can do that are similar to what MS showed today....expect Sony was showing this back in 2007.

here is the Eye Pet Trailer as well as real time footage of what also can be done with the PSeye.
