its not the violence that bothers me, its the way you actually do the motions. It just seems...not right. This is the first time ive ever felt this way about a videogame before

I don't think it is going too far. The intended audience for the game should be able to handle it. Granted, kids will get their hands on the game, but that isn't the devs problem. If the games violence and brutality bothers you, don't buy it for you or your kid.

It's never too far. Only when people start to recognise videogames as a proper medium will all this stupid hate stop. 300, Oldboy, Hostel, Saw, Kill Bill, Sin City... they don't get any flack, yet people even go as far as pinning school massacres on Counter-Strike -- that's the real sick part of it all IMO.

Not far enough in my honest opinion. There is not enough free publicity being generated by this game yet.

Yes, I read the preview which started this whole discussion, and I still don't think motions will change anything.

If you can't distinct reality with virtual reality, then you have problems. It's not the games fault you acted that way.

Damn.. I see what you mean. :o

However, I still think that opinions of general cinema violence have softened up a bit over the years. The way I see it, Rockstar's Dan Houser put it the best way (from OPM, in regards to GTA):

"A lot of the stuff we face seems like an attack on GTA, but ultimately it's an attack on the medium. Because the medium is still quite new, it's like "well, we don't like the violence or we don't like the sex or we don't like this or that", but you don't hear a word about it in a Hollywood film or TV show. So your problem isn't actually anything to do with the content, it's more to do with the medium. And now that you have a problem with the medium, let's discuss that - but let's be honest about that and get that out front. Because you say "oh well it's despicable!" If you honestly think that in relation to the content, and you wouldn't allow that content in any other medium; that's one conversation. But saying we should have different rules to other media, that's a very different conversation and one I don't agree with."

Why not? Every movie theater in the world gets movies like Saw and Hostel. It's rated accordingly. We shouldn't be having things banned just because a few people may have a problem with it. I live in the US, the land of the free, if you don't like it, get steppin.

If you can't take the heat then stay out of the kitchen. In other words...people that have a problem it Manhunt 2 can avoid it if they want.

I personally think it'll make an excellent stress reliever. It's not going too far.

No way, man. I just never get why people complain so much about what they are not forced to partake in, yet they still feel the need to tell others that they cannot, or should not just because they dissaprove. It is simple really. The same philosophy should apply to movies, books, and music as well. And it goes like this:

If you do not like it, do buy it. Turn your head and leave it for those who do. End of story. If some idiot is crazy enough to actually want to try and act out vilolence that they have been exposed to in any form of media, then it is clear as day that they had a pre-existing mental condition beforehand anyway, and would have ended up commiting violent crimes regardless. However, what some random lunatic does should not cause the ruination of free choice, and entertainment for the rest of us who are normal, and can distinguish reality from fantasy.

I'm glad you mentioned this. It proves Rockstar Games aren't going to go so far in their violent titles. They strongly decided against children in GTAIV and even barred planes from Liberty City's airways.

Just read some of the stuff on Wikipedia about the game... is it a bad thing that I got excited?

"Manhunt 2's main character, scientist Dr Daniel Lamb, is locked in a private asylum by The Project - shady backers of a top secret drugs-based weapons program that Lamb was working on."

Asylum eh? Sweeeeeet...

"After breaking out of the asylum, Daniel Lamb goes on the run with psychotic inmate Leo Kasper, who is happy to coach Lamb in the brutal art of violence."

Sweeeeeet...

"Environmental kills have been introduced (push an enemy face-first into a live fuse box, use telephone cords to strangle an enemy or you can drown an enemy in a toilet)."

Sweeeeeeet...

"Rockstar has used the Wii's horsepower to "Up the Gore", such as realistic blood effects, bruising, gunshot wounds, gashes and head wounds. In addition, blood will also spray the screen during combat and executions."

Super sweeeeeeeet...!

I guess I am a sick weirdo then... must be why I loved Takashi Miike's Visitor Q.

lolololol. let's ban violence altogether and create world peace. At the same time, let's ban all firearms, sharp objects (including sharpened pencils and fountain pens), blunt objects, bags, matches, liguids(including water), gels, tall buildings, cars, paper (who says you can't papercut one's jugular?), rock music, metal, bad words of any kind, rude gestures, freedom of speech, freedom of expression, dangerous animals and plants, rubber bands, electronics, and breathing.

Manhunt 2 disguists me, and I feel that it is excessively and disturbingly violent.  However, I don't think there is such thing as "too far"  Things can always get worse.  Ideally, the game isn't to blame, it's the people who play it.  If someone gets shot, do you blame it on the shooter, or the gun.  Have people ever gone on a killing rampage after reading Silence of the Lambs, or watching Terminator?  The only reason that this might have a negative impact on people's psyches is if parents allow young children to play it, in which case, the game has nothing to do with it, the parents are to blame.  When you encounter children that are excessively violent, you can be pretty sure that if they're not mentally unstable, that they have a poor home life.  Same with children that swear all the time.  What do you want to bet that their parents are the sort of people who insert the F-word several times into every sentence.  In the end, people are to blame.
