I'd say Halo 3 for two reasons: better multiplayer (which is something that would be more important the longer you are online) and the fact that you would be far more likely to have a headset to call for help with.

Do I have my credit cards with me so I can pay to upgrade my account to Gold? I might choose Halo 3 since more people would be on it rather than MGO, so more people would be able to hear my cries for help and come rescue me, after I explained to them that this island was devoid of all life yet somehow managed to have a working (guessing unsecured) network that I was able to log into.
I might actually choose MGS4 though, since I'm more of a single player gamer, and find MP to be a bit dull, along with my general disdain for humanity at large. I'd play MGO maybe once or twice a month, try to complete the campaign once a month, and then spend the rest of my time figuring out how exactly I'm getting an internet connection, and hopefully find some underground catacombs that answer my question but leave me horror stricken from the ungodly answers that I find.
Why not do two games that have good online? Halo 3 or Resistance 2 would have been better. Why MGS4. Everyone will choose Halo 3 because of the better quality MP.
Since, I'm stuck on the island, MGS can have only so much replay value. MGO is great, but it's close. I'll go for Hey-Low, if the time period stuck was more than 6-9 months.
Yes because this is a completely fair comparison. Yes lets force people to choose between great online and basically no online. Yes because obviously everybody wants no online if they are on an island :| I seriously dont care, because I thought the MGS4 singleplayer was good, but I also do think that the halo multiplayer was good. I wouldnt go so far as calling Halo3 "KING" though. Not even close. Anyway, the smart people would pick PS3, so they can use the browser to call for help and GTFO out of there ;)
If you simply asked the question, "Which game do you like better?" the majority of people would have said Metal Gear Solid 4. Even so, I'm surprised Halo 3 is winning.

Give me a gaming PC and WoW. Honestly, i wouldn't have anything else to do on a deserted island anyway. Either that or give me a gaming PC and TF2 or CS:Source. I can think of others but i think those would last me forever.
