I cant believe they charged me 800 MS points to change my gamer tag

.How do they justify that?I'm already paying for the privilege of playing on XBL but charging me for changing my name???Thast insane.

Microtransactions gone mad, thank god Sony's come up with a much better alternative now.

I'm now sure that XBL users will have to pay for mods if they ever get any in games like UT3.Lemmings should now be called cows.

It's to prevent people from causing all kinds of trouble, and then simply chaning their name so no one will know it was them.

Why didn'y you just pick a better gamertag to start with?

You CHOSE to change your Gamertag...

I don't see how that's milkage. Maybe next time choose a name that you will stick with otherwise it's your own fault.

1. It's optional, that's like saying "hey, I wanted to change the color of my car, why does it cost? I bought the car!" See, that's stupid. 2. It requires some level of maintenace from microsoft, of course they could not let people change their names all the time. . .

THAT is insane, what if i want to cheat or harrass someone and then "change my gamer tag." How dare you microsoft, not allowing me to do such a thing. Thank god for sony, i am able to harrass whomever whenever i want, i can cuss out on the mic without any regulation because all i have to do is make a new free account. With Sony, you have the freedom to cheat, and watch porn, harrass anyone on my ps3.

Yeah, cause with PC there are no strings. you're just an I.P with a name attached. You're gamertag is what links you to all your stats, content, reputation, console registration(I think). Changing your gamertag creates work and MS don't work for free.

I have a solution for that, don't change your gamertag. What universe do you live in that people don't charge money for services? "Company X charged me to do something that was a choice to do on my part and now I want to cry about it". That is what you are saying, grow up already. In the real world when people do work for you, you pay for it

Probably even more as well. Seeing as you'll be decorating an apartment...which sounds kind of fruity to begin with but whatever. A price could very well even be announced for PSH before it actually releases. XBL still has numerous things over PSH to begin with. Microtransactions are present in both though, bashing one is like bashing the other.

Perhaps because we thought up a Gamertag that we were happy to have for the next few years? Being unable to change your name is nothing new in gaming circles. Microsoft allow you to, for a price, meaning only someone who really wants to, and not someone who trash talked their way through their previous games and is now unable to get one because everyone has blacklisted them.

You still havent told us why you felt the need to change your gamertag either.

i personally think it's stupid when people are constantly changing their names, I can't remember who they are anymore. I've deleted people off my LIVE friends list cuz they've changed their name, and I no longer remember who they used to be, so they're gone.

You think about how many people play on Xbox Live and then think about a quarter of them wanting to change their gamer tag that would be pretty crazy so I can understand Microsoft not wanting this to happen by trying to prevent it by charging you to do so, but I do think 800 points is too much.

The damage control by Microsoft fanboys is amazing. MS can just set it so that people can only change their gamertag once every 7 days or some amount of time like that. That way, people won't be able to change their names all the time. So this is pure milkage. And changing your username is not the same as the color of a car.  It's a freaking name.  That's ridiculous. Way to go MS. Charging money to change a GamerTag. Ridiculous.

Amazingly, those who are fine with the thought of being charged to change their gamer tag brought up some good reasons why they think it's ok. Let's review:

1)if it were free people would be changing their gamertag too often

2)It's to prevent people from causing all kinds of trouble, and then simply changing their name so no one will know it was them. Why would you want a bunch of sore losers sending you loads of messages, then changing their gamertag so they can start over? Seems pretty stupid.

3)It requires some level of maintenace from microsoft, of course they could not let people change their names all the time. With PC there are no strings. you're just an I.P with a name attached.

You think thats bad? Check this out http://kotaku.com/gaming/marketplace/some-marketplace-downloads-already-on-disc-223420.php

Ironically enough...

All of that stuff is still optional.

Uhh It's already on the Disc which means you payed for it already, it's like buying a mario game and having to buy the jump button.

Poor analogy.

Except there's no real proof that any of the stuff is actually on the disc...

The only proof that is cited is the size of the downloads.

[QUOTE="Mass_Effect"]It is unfair, but if it were free people would be changing their gamertag too oftengsx1100
Umm so what if people change their names often?Happens all the time in PC games.

MS pays for storage space for your information. Changing that information forces them to update their databases.
Also, the purpose of Live is to have one constant identity that works for every game and service. By allowing the names to be fluid, you would lose that whole effect, not to mention the attachment to the GamerTag itself.

It's to prevent people from causing all kinds of trouble, and then simply chaning their name so no one will know it was them.

Why didn'y you just pick a better gamertag to start with?
DilutedDante
yep that's a good reason.

Dude, it is to keep people from changing their gamertag every freaking 5 minutes. And to tell you the truth I think you are a sony fanboy, so stop trolling.
