It's a good read that everybody here should read; sheep, lemmings, cows, and manticores alike.

I brings up some very good points that nobody could really deny. If Super Smash Bros Brawl was the exact same game except you removed all the iconic characters (Mario, Link, Samus, etc) and replaced them with standard, normal fighting characters, you would notice that the game loses a majority of what makes it good; you begin to see the terrible user interface, poor quality gameplay, and mediocre graphics (even for the Wii). So why is SSBB so successful? Simply due to the fact that it has many Nintendo characters jammed into one game.

Sorry, sheep.

It's still the best multiplayer game of the year. If liking SSBB makes me a fanboy then so be it. I truly could not care less.

What's your point, exactly? Characters and icons are important in games, it gives them flavor, a good texture.

Would Halo be Halo without the Master Chief?

Enjoying the game doesn't make anybody, specifically you, a fanboy. I could enjoy playing Big Rigs and still not be a PC fanboy. If you like SSBB, good for you, enjoy it as long as you like.

What the article is saying, though is that a lot of people like SSBB only because it has many Nintendo characters within it. Although that's definiately not the case for many people here and abroad, it does apply for a vast amount of people.

I remember a topic way back where somebody said they should make a "Super Sony Bros" game, which would play exactly like Brawl except you'd use Sony characters. A lot of people said the idea was either incredibly stupid or very interesting. That being said, a lot of those people who said it was stupid were sheep and the people who thought it was interesting were cows (according to their past history of posts I've seen).

Fanboyism has a lot to do with how much a person likes games, sadly. This only applies to actual fanboys though. If you're neutral on how you feel about different companies, then you'll enjoy many games found on different platforms from different companies.

If the game didnt have those characters it wouldnt make sense. Why would there be an army guy and a peasant fighter in the same match? and them being equal!? The entire game is built around this history of nintendo which is exactly why it is so good. the game doesnt label itself as a typical fighter so it is difficult to compare it to other fighters but even games like street fighter suffer from unbalanced characters. And the gameplay can hardly be poor quality if the game is played at a professional level.

You act as if I myself wrote the article. How about you actually read the article and comment on the official author about the article, not me?

I know I'm one of the ones who plays BECAUSE it's a bunch of Nintendo characters. The idea of characters from all of their franchises, such as Kirby and Mario and Link, all being playable characters in a fighting game, is just awesome. If it was just random fighters, the game would lose it's whole theme.

At the end of the day, as long as we're having fun... who cares? It's a great game. :)

a sony smash bros wouldnt work because sony simply dont have as vast an array of characters to use as nintendo does. As well as character roster you would also have to consider assist trophies, the poke balls, the famous stages the music. there are numerous reasons why a sony smash bros wouldnt be as good.

I didn't read the article, nor was I commenting on it. I read the paragraph that you wrote and commented on that. :P

Yeah, it pretty much would. Despite cutscenes and the occasional vehicle moment, you wouldn't know the difference between if you were playing as MC or as Gordon Freeman, or any other john doe for that matter. If you never see the character, then how do you know you are playing as MC at all?

QFT. Plus, lots of youngins might not recognize characters such as Ice Climbers or Game and Watch.

I knew that was the whole reason from the get go. How can you find fighters boring, but all of sudden let Mario throw an hadoken or Zelda do a side-kick and now you like fighters? Please...

PS: This same article can be applied to Halo fanboys

You know I'm trying to disagree with him but I dont think I can. Snake, Sonic, Link, Pit ect make that game fun for me. If those guys werent in the game I dont think I would like it as much. I think the fighting system is very fun though. I have more fun with this game than most other fighters. But I dont take it a seriously as I do Tekken and Soul Caliber.

Fine, But I think he's wrong, on the graphics updates, and user interface. I don't find it hard to find what I was looking for.

What if all popular video game characters died, and forced developers to create new ones and use them in the same exact franchises?

Super Mario, would never be the same.
Halo, to say the same.
Or how about Jak and Daxter?

It would be ashame if they all just suddenly disappeared. All of them would just lose their charm if that happened.

So he claims that we should review the game, but not take into account it's franchise. Isn't that part of the fun factor? Should we not consider the fun factor when reviewing?

I hate it how games get 4% 1.0 scores to bring down the user score

Halo 3 is a good example.

Never mind the fact that when i first played ssb i was a huge nintendo hater and didn't really care about the characters or knew who they were in the first place. SSB is all nastalgia
