http://kotaku.com/gaming/rumor/new-360-core-coming-to-us-this-holiday-291506.php

How many SKUS do they have now? Elite, halo 360, premium, core, XBOX arcade, the ones with HDMI, the ones with the falcon chips........(some boxes have "HDMI" and "falcon chip" on the box, so they DO count as differen SKUS). This is really stupid, you have 7 different SKUS, 2 of which have features which should be standard in all, 1 of which has pointless arcade games on it, 1 of which is a stupid premium with a paint job, 1 which is just a piece of crap with no hard drive, and then 2 which actually have some use.

For the wii you have ONE SKU, which has everything you need ( a controller, a charger, a game, cables...).

For the PS3, you have 2 SKUS (soon to be 1 again). The 80gb SKU with the game is sort of pointless, but you can just buy the game and update your hard drive whenever you need to (using any 2.5" Serial ATA HDD!).

This is just freaking rediculous.

Lol, it replaces the core, includes the large memory card, 5 free arcade titles, wireless controller and hdmi, for the same price as the current core.

Zomg! what horrible horrible news for gamers! MS should be ashamed of themselves.

It's good for people getting thier first 360, cause they can pick what package they want depending on their comitment to gaming. But to the guy who got his console at launch (a.k.a Me) it's a frigging piss off.

"rebranded" was used in the article along with "out-moded" Whay would you think the core would stick around. I mean yeah sure it's possible this is just a limited time thing but it did not read this way.

Exactly, TC presents this as a negative and I'm thinking it's the best news anyone that wants a 360 could hear.

Well if this is replacing the core its certainly making it less of a tard pack (including memory card). I like this, personally, as long as the current core dies a horrible death.

As nice as it may sound, this having options isn't always good. The average consumer would be confused as to which one to get since they aren't likely to understand the differences between these SKUs. But this is really getting to be too many.

GM should only have one type of car.

Multiple SKUs is bad, evil, devilish stuff.

One brand of beer too. Call it beer. Sell it in a plain brown box...stamped BEER.

Yep, I am a one SKU man and I'm off to the rodeo....

What will they think of next? Substituting 60 GB drives for 20s!!! Then 80s for 60s. OMG it is a disaster.

That's easy, all three have hdmi, all three have memory included, casuals will buy the cheapest one. I can't see a negative way to spin this one. Now you don't have to know anything about them to pick the right one. Had I not already bought one I would get this and add a HDD to it.

Just in case anyone didn't see what a great deal the core is now check out the guys link. You get a falcon chipset, hdmi, wireless controller with 5 arcade titles and a 256k memory card for $270, talk about sweet deal for fence sitters and this proves yet again late adopters own us all.

Nice find TC! All future MS fans owe you one for finding this.

Most consumers see the console and like that it has 3 different price points, and now that the core is about priced with a WII, I'm sure a whole lot more johny's will be getting 360's this year.

People that say choice is a bad thing are mistaken... Most kids would like the HDD of the premium, but they can always ask for that at a later date if it's needed. Not like their aint birthdays, easter, chores... To bad you can't by a PS3 without the bluRay player or the HDD. I'm sure they would be pushing more units if they Sony had the PS3 core they could have dropped to 399.99.

um they have 3 skus...Elite, Premium, And Core, They will phase out core, and release Arcade so only 3.
the Falcon boards are not sku's they will replace the current line of boards.

AS for that No more then the mistakes of SONY.

First they say Microsoft is stupid for having 2 sku's says they will never have 2.

ends up haveing 2 skus, Lowers the price of em in japan, Then pretty much phases out the first sku, then they lower the price of the current one so to bolster user base so more companies dont go multiplatform, then they phase that one out infavor of the 80 gig, and now they are rumored to have a 40 gig so as to better compete with 360...

Would have been nice if M$ got things right in one go. In that sense choice is bad. Falcon chipset? It's great they are doing something about their failure rates. I hope they replace any broken x360's with the new version as they should.
Btw i really wouldn't like to have to look for specs when playing console. I hope they won't take things that far with their Vista conquest.

Anyway like i said, it is great they are finally at least doing something about it.

Exactly. Not to mention the "Core" was just a stupid move from the start, because it limits all Xbox games to what the Core comes with. They can't design games with an HDD in mind because oops, there's that Core system to think about.

All of them need to stop with this madness and just release ONE version of every console. If you can't afford it, too bad. Gaming has never been a poor man's hobby. Go and get one of those Ball-in-a-Cup things.

How hard is it to understand that the BLU RAY DRIVE IS WHAT PLAYS OUR GAMES TOO? If you took out the BD drive it would be a non-functioning block of plastic and metal. Without an HDD, what are you going to do, buy 50 dollar memory cards at 2 GB a pop? Without an HDD and a BD drive it would be half a console. Who cares if more people own it if it's crap. Owning a Core 360 isn't something I would be proud of.

Next, who is going to receive a Core for Christmas and get an Elite for their birthday?

But everybody should have a harddrive.. Core should never have existed.. that way, when developers make games, they can implement the use of hard disk storage.

LastSamurai14

No, they dont. I looked through the databases at CC, and all our upcoming skus...there is only: Elite, Premium, Core and Arcade. I think Core is being phased out, but we still have some. NO 5th or 6th SKU because of Falcon and HDMI. Rather, Premium w/o Falcon and HDMI are old models/serial numbers that MS has phased out, and no longer manufacturing. We have the old ones in stock. That does not mean MS has 6 different SKUS on their lineup, we just have a lot of old models.

Just going by what the database is telling me.

Anyone who thinks MS is being stupid with the multiple SKU's needs to try buying a new car. Options lists, models, trim lines, colours, packages etc. They tend to sell pretty well don't they? And how many people out there know what a 2.4 litre inline 4 DOHC VVTL engine with a CVT transmission is?

Buh... options!

Anyone who thinks MS is being stupid with the multiple SKU's needs to try buying a new car. Options lists, models, trim lines, colours, packages etc. They tend to sell pretty well don't they? And how many people out there know what a 2.4 litre inline 4 DOHC VVTL engine with a CVT transmission is?PBSnipes

buying a console should not be anywhere as compicated as choosing a new car.

the Model T was a great seller and had as many options as Doom 3 does.

And it isn't, but that isn't the point. The point is those that bash the 360's multiple SKU tend to use the reasoning that consumers will be confusedby themultiple SKUsand buy a PS3 or Wii instead. However the same people that are supposively confused by MS's 3 SKUs can handle buying a new car fine, which is a much more complicated and confusing process.
