How can this be the "Golden Era"? N64 and PSone days these are not.
Here's one little annoyance that I have with the video game industry in general: The emphasis on subscriptions, DLC, betas, and firmware.
It's possible for things to be sophisticated for the core gamers like us, without a lot of the techno babble. Not everyone is a tech geek, and can still be a gamer. There needs to be a balance. In my perspective, this is sapping some of the magic away from our games. The glitz and the glamor sure is nice, though not all of the time. My perception is that things are being saturated. The over abundance of first person shooters, while platformers and adventure games are either being fundamentally tweaked or being minimized. Why do the consoles have to be more like the PC and vice versa?
What really bothers me the most is the emphasis on subscriptions and downloadable content. On-line play should be F R E E. Also, I'm okay with DLC, yet why is it so important? Games didn't have this before, and they were all the more unique for it.
Finally, is the video game industry moving too quickly? It seems like the PC has to be matched. Why is everyone so crazy over visuals and on-line play?
