NGP has ALL the advantages over the 3DS, except the one that will make 3DS win: the Nintendo franchises.

If you complain about a controller, you just simply aren't good at gaming.

I keep saying this

People don't want to buy a portable to replace a home console, yet. I think that's awesome that I could play Uncharted on the go, But I'd rather play it on my TV in my own home on my PS3.

Also, no the NGP can't be a PS3 controller. It only has L1/R1 to my knowledge.

I would've reduced it to a single franchise TBH, cuz after years and years of hearing/reading about how that franchise is all people needs to be happy with the Ninty handhelds, it has been engraved on my mind (not that I feel the same, I'm talking about the comment). BUT being fair as I am, I wanted to include ALL the Ninty franchises so it didn't sound really farfetched.

To be fair he has a point. It didn't seem like people really cared about Sony's ips on PSP. Some sold terribly, and some sold ok. I mean, what was the highest selling game on PSP? GTA at like 5 Million? Not bad, but definetly GameCube territory with your highest selling games being 1/5 the total sales of your competitors big games.

Doesn't make those games bad of course, it just seems to me that consumer response was lukewarm for the IPs on the PSP, and for the most part those IPs are the "big" NGP games coming out.

Also, all this talk about NGP's hardware and its "advantages" is going to make for a funny pay off when the official specs are much lower than people are expecting. (like they very well could be) the forums will go wild with the fact that all the NGP will be is a iPod Touch with buttons. We don't know where the clock speeds, etc are.

Then again, people put way way way too much weight on raw specifications, it's a console, not a PC, you can't do what you want with that power anyway. In terms of power it should be enought that it does more than the console it replaces.

No it isn't, the N64 isn't available any longer so those games can need to be remade for people that haven't played them.

Why choose a PS3 port when you can buy the original for the PS3?

You'd be lacking an R2 and L2 button. I wonder how they'd work around that... Maybe through use of the touchpad?

The current PSP can be used as a controller for the PS3, albeit one without a second analog stick and only two shoulder buttons. So not many games can be played with it. And it takes about half an hour of messing round configuring it. And for a handheld, the PSP is pretty uncomfortable to hold in your hands. In fact, Sony really need to sort themselves out with this. The PS3 controller is way too small and playing it for anything over an hour makes my hands cramp up. Although I prefer the PS3, I'll buy cross-platform games on the Xbox just because the controller is more comfortable. Does anyone else have a problem with this or is it just beacuse I've got giant, spade-like hands. To lose software sales on the basis of a poor controller is pretty shambolic.

Anyway beware marketing hype for NGP. I haven't heard anything yet about new gimmicks etc. that wasn't said midway through the last decade about the old PSP and much of it didn't turn out as promised. Will probably still get one though cos I'm a sucker.

Yes, but those are the originals, with the 3DS remakes you get better versions of the games. With a PS3 port for NGP you'll likely get a crappier version. The inherent similarites of the NGP and old style home consoles will bring it many more ports than the 3DS will get.

Nothing that I know of. "Just" better visuals is a pretty big deal though when you also get it in 3D. Point is, those remakes get better, if only visually. A port from PS3 to NGP can only get worse as graphics is such a major part of those games.

I can see it now, the need to justify the touch functions will make the ports utilize them in some gimmicky way also making the control worse than in the original game. The review will say "We already played this on PS3/360 but with better visuals and with better control" and then score it .5 below the score of the home console version

I remeber that game. Didn't play it, but I remember a similar system with Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles.

Back on topic, I ask because seeing pictures of the NGP points out to one problem I have with it: the buttons and analog sticks are too small. They look even smaller than the PSP. However, seeing how mmuch space the other features take up, some sacrifices had to be made.

Yes, but those are the originals, with the 3DS remakes you get better versions of the games. With a PS3 port for NGP you'll likely get a crappier version..

Also, it's gameplay experiences that matter and those are not dependent on the power of a console.yellonet
So, which one is it?

*reads thread again*

whoops, my bad. Read it wrong. but still, why would anyone use a handheld as a controller if it has smaller buttons/analog sticks?

blizzvalve

Not sure. *remembers zelda game for gamecube*

I need a comparison pic. At least NPG features actual analog sticks unlink 3ds.

Matter of perspective maybe?? They probably look smaller to you because the NGP is said to be even larger than the PSP-1000.

Na i would say the 3ds being less powerful than the original psp is old hardware,

ThePlothole

Which is why the system isn't even out yet and RE: Revelations already looks significantly better than at least 99.9% of PSP games.

And you are basing that off of your hours of playing the game right? O wait....

It's both as not only will NGP games look worse, they'll suffer on the control department compared to PS3 games, it doesn't have all the physical buttons and they'll probably throw in some gimmicy touch-functions to make you think you need the touch screen and you'll also smudge the view as the touch screen and main game screen is the same.
