Alright, before I get all the ridiculous posts that don't make sense from the ignorant fanboys who just want to rep their system let me say this:

I know this is system wars. For that reason, a lot of the posts will undoubtedly be weak, biased, and poorly formed arguments.

With that said here's the question: What makes XBL so much better than the PSN? Almost everytime online gaming is mentioned, it seems to be common knowledge that Live is the best thing since the internet's conception, the wii has nothing resembling online gaming, and PSN falls somewhere in between. But what exactly makes XBL better than PSN? Acheivement points? More online gamers? Dozens of the games from the same genre so everybody who is good at one game is good at the rest of the games on live?

Thank You.

It's late, all the fanboys are sleeping. Check this thread again in the morning, and try to keep it alive.

I dont have an xbox so i dont know how to compare it's online to the PSN's services, but I think XBL offers a few more features that make the online a lot more accessible, and make the online community tighter as a result. I guess it's generally better. Each 360 comes packaged with a headset too, so it's very easy to communicate online. Not always a good thing though...you get all the kiddies screaming and swearing and blasting linkin park in the background.

Well, since ive had my PS3 ive had nothing but problems with my internet connection. During chats i get disconnected and logged off of PSN (btw i have a Nat Type 2). Whereas ive had no problems with my 360. I do like the fact that i can recieve messages and respond to messages in game on the 360 (they might have that for the PS3 but i havents used it in months so im not sure). I like that fact i can open a chat with a friend and talk to them while in the middle of a game, on my 360. I do really like the acheivment system (even though im not an achievment maniac). Ive found the downloading display to be a lot easier to use unlike the PS3. Ive found the communities on both systems to be the same ( a bunch of annoying, under aged children). Plus i dont mind spending 50$ a year for a better service (i do play WoW).

There ive thrown in my 2 cents.

Instead of coming in here like a garden variety troll and bashing the whole forum maybe you should rent a 360 and try out a gold membership for a month and decide for yourself.

Or just read RyanShazam's post he describes some of the best features. The ease of communication and the unified structure make it a great community and despite all the people you won't like on there you can easiy find many cool people that share the same interests as you.

Like I am playing Assassins Creed and a friend jumps on and says he wants to play TF2 so I stop chatting with my brother and put in TF2 and play that for awhile then someone else sends a request and wants to play NBA2K8 so I tell the folks on TF2 I gotta split. Then during the game I send out messages to friends in my Saints Row gang making sure we are going to meet up tomorrow but the guy in Wales has to work late so he won't make it and the dude in Texas will be on a little late. It's very very cool.

I know like 20 people in rl that own 360's and we are all on live doing versus, co-op, XBLA titles and sometimes even using it for chat functions in other games that don't have chat.

I like it so much because I get a great community of people that I actually know so I don't have any griefer types in most games and the sometimes crappy p2p works out because we all live within a few dozen miles of each other and we rarely have any laggy connections.

I know this is kind of a special case and most people don't get the benefits I do but from my perspective XBL is pretty sweet.

There are a few other reasons I like it, like the achievement point contests where I have won new games and XBL points cards.(google achievement point contests to see what contests are avalible now) and some of the free content is pretty cool sometimes like when I got to watch the free Austin powers movie , the cool anime South Park episode and the recently released Witchblade anime.

And sometimes the free game content add-ons are cool too, like Merhunes Razor and the new Fighters Stronghold dl's in Oblivion along with dozens of other free dl's that have extended the gameplay a few hours on some other games.

Even the stuff you have to pay for is worth it to me, I just bought the Overlord expansion pack and am having alot of fun with it too.

I'm a fan of XBL and the four years and $200 bux I have spent on it have been a pretty fair deal most of the time.

Well as I understand, PS3 will soon have in game XMB where you can message and chat at will during a game. Doesn't that close the gap with the community features?

XBL just has more features in general being able to talk to friends, while both simultaneously playing different games, ala lets say im playing AC while my friend is playing the orange box, i can access in game XMB and see my friend list messages go into private chats and so on other wise, i dont see any diffrence in the user base, server base they both run just as smooth

For me, it's the community aspects.

MS basically made XBL idiot-proof. It's so dead easy to find a game and just play. I can set up a full match of TF2 within seconds from my friends list.

Also, everyone has a mic. I play TF2 an absurd amount and without the teamspeak it would be completely pointless.

PSN is getting there though...before long they'll be equal.

What I really want is cross-platform play between ps3 and 360 :D It won't happen...but how awesome would it be to take SW into an online deathmatch every once in awhile???

PC owns obviously.

and as for Live over PSN, its simple, FEATURES. PSN is a shell of an online service that basically dumps you in there,

theres no sense of a community or anything.

No universal friendslist,

no Crossgame invites,

the store is no where near live Marketplace,

theres barely anyone playing,

no one has a mic so lobbys are like ghost towns, if some does have a mic, since theres no official headset or dedicated bandwidth for voice the quality is terrible

theres no description of your friends (or what they are playing, what games they have, are they good at it? or anything),

theres no truskill ratings or anything

you cant download trial versions of arcade games like you can for EVERYSINGLE game on live arcade

.........i can keep going on and on.....psn has alot...ALOT to do, to even get near the quality of live.

and wii?? pfft.....yeah.

well, although i experience no lag whatsoever on xbl, the lag has to do with the host of the game. and his connection. If thats bad then the whole game suffers, thats for everything, dont be ignorant. its nice to know that PSN supports 2 games, wtf? live supports all its big games. and as for having more players then live, keep dreeaming

You would think I would learn by now to not comment on these topics. All of the XBL bashers have nothing to contribute other than "that is wrong" or "you fail." And when they do choose to make a factual statement, it is usually proven wrong anyway.

Sure, no problem I have to keep it short Im at work :)

"theres no sense of a community or anything" --- That's false. There is a huge playstation community, just look at these forums. There are plenty of playstation fans. I have about 40 friends on my PS3 at any given time at least 10 of them are online. I always game with friends.

"no one has a mic so lobbys are like ghost towns" --- Again absolute BS, I would say two out of three have mics, the 1/3 that don't usually have them if you ask them to put them on, but some people just choose to play without one.

"theres barely anyone playing," --- Totally false.. If I'm in COD4 the instant I push the button to join an online game I'm matched. There are 2.8 million people playing PSN in North America alone.

"no Crossgame invites" --- Only partially true, there are work arounds but it doesn't work as good as live

"theres no description of your friends (or what they are playing" --- Wrong again. On your friendslist it shows who is online and what game they are playing

The guy is just lying or horribly misinformed.

Right. As far as content goes, XBL wins hands down. XBL Arcade, Movie/TV downloads, music video, demos, add-ons, streaming video of news/tips, industry event coverage..... there's just lots of stuff

can ps3 download movies? -- Yes it can, is it implemented no it's not. Sony is working on it and when it does come you can bet it will beat anything out there. Remember Sony is a media company and they own or are good partners with a good chunk of Hollywood.

can the ps3 offer hundreds of arcade games? -- No, but why would you buy these when there quite a few other ways to play these for free, including thru the PS3 webbrowser.

can the ps3 let you dowload games like halo or NG? -- Yes, you can download past Playstation titles, PS2 titles coming soon. Even better they are less expensive than Xbox games on Live and you can play them on your PS3 and PSP.

Sorry sir, but I had no intention of suckering you into an argument for argument's sake. As you can see, I haven't responded to many of the posts because I just wanted to see what people would say. I'm not "set in my ways" because I don't even use PSN that much. I really just download demos and games. Online competition is good sometimes, but those aren't the kind of games I bought a PS3 for, so it's honestly not that big of a deal to me. It just seems to be so commonplace that Live is better, so I wanted to know why. That's all.
