Only an AAAA game can get GOTY this year.....

First of all a game which scored 9 has absolutely no chance at all of getting GOTY.I dont know why are people still expecting gears 2 or LPB to get GOTY.The reason is simple that there is no way gamespot would declare a game which they reviewed as 9 superior to a game(s) they reviewed as 10.It's just not going to happen ever.Yes unfortunately while the gamespot GOTY award may seem like it's more than one persons's opinion,it can actually have a big impact due to a single opinion.

With the old reviewing system it was not necessary to hand the GOTY to the highest scoring game.Like a 9.7 game is not necessarily superior to a 9.6 or 9.5 game in every way.However as far as the new GS review system is concerned a 10 game is wholly superior to a 9.5 game.So it again is really unlikely if GS will ever give a 9.5 game GOTY in the presence of an AAAA.

The only time it can happen is when GS would end up looking stupid for giving it's highest rated game GOTY due to either the genre of the game or just an overrated review.But this year both MGS4 and GTA4 are gonna be getting some GOTY's and neither are dumb choices for GOTY so dont expect GS to consider any other game for GOTY.

And yes I know THPS3 didnt get GOTY and it was cuz it was a sport's game.

Doesn't a 10 simply mean 'currently the best in its respective genre', according to their scoring system?

If so, then any game with a 9.0 or above has a shot at getting GOTY. You're not really supposed to compare scores across genres/systems.

Let me make this simple. Each and every rating Gamespot has ever given to a game is one man's opinion, as one person reviews each game. Game of the Year, the entire Gamespot staff gets involved and review the games of the year, and decide which was the best based on everyones' opinions.

Never say it's not possible, it is possible.

For some reason i thought that they only did a PCGOTY then, as at that time gamespot wasn't a console and pc review site; rather they had a seperate domain for console reviewing.

Chrono Cross and THPS3 didn't win GOTY the years they were released.

If AAAA games have lost GOTY in the past, why would one believe they were guaranteed GOTY awards today?

My understanding is that during the 90s, Gamespot was PC-only, and the console side of the website was videogames.com. Only the Gamespot awards persist on the site today. 

This tradition continued for a while with the separate PC and Console GOTY awards that were given out during the early years of this console generation. 

I think that MGS4 will get GOTY because:

- Kevin V really likes that game and I believe these days he has lot of say in Gamespot because he is among the very few senior reviewers who have stayed in GS.

- People seem to dislike GTA4 now after some months from its release, but this seems not to be the case for MGS4. People still seem to like it.

- People always remember and like a good story for long time and its more likely that they will forget good gameplay.

1. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3) - 10
2. Grand Theft Auto 4 (360 & PS3) - 10
3. LittleBig Planet (PS3) - 9
4. Resistance 2 (PS3) - 9
5. Gears of War 2 (360) - 9
6. Fallout 3 (360 & PS3) - 9 for 360, 8.5 for PS3
7. Fable 2 (360) - 8.5

These above games to me, are the only games that can win GOTY on Gamespot. However, i don't follow PC, so maybe they have a few games up there as well. As far as the wii goes, the only game that was released this year that was of any significance is Animal Crossing...

honestly the game is just awesome.  Kojima is a great video game creator and deserves the award in my opinion

They have come back and admitted that they reviewed a game too high in the past with MGS2... Could well happen again with both of these hype laden 10's this year.Shafftehr

mgs 4 FTW! am a fan of mgs. and i say that mgs 4 had the most epic ending ever! if i could tell how epic the fist fight was.... fanboys would hunt me down and rip off my head.
