Ya' know all i keep reading is The Wii sales are this much and they've sold more 3rd party titles thus far than PS3 and the 360 has more games...Man i gotta' tell ya' i love all this selective memory people have, how about this past holiday season when PS2 outsold everything and is still being manufactured to this day and sold with great success after 8 years on the market, while Microsoft and Nintendo bailed out on their last gen systems and fans of those systems.

Not to mention the PS3 is technologically made to last a minimum of 10 years at least, while the Wii, with it's already outdated hardware will most likely die off well before it hits the 5 year mark and Microsoft already admitted to the 360 only having a shelf life of about 5 years before they produce a new console and force their consumers to shell out another couple hundred dollars on another console and hundreds more on games for it.

That is if anyone will even follow Microsoft into another console after the 360's hardware nightmares, so in 2 years from now when the Wii has lost hits luster and everyone has had enough with it's dated graphics and has gotten past the cute little motion control fad and the 360 is retired while it's successor the 720 or whatever it will be called comes out with specs that might or might not exceed PS3 will force gamers into yet another costly console and game library.

All of us Sony PS3 fans will still be enjoying our console while it has more than hit it's stride and stretches it's legs for your companys next supposed competition of console wars, only difference being we'll have the massive game library and still be producing the most reliable hardware and gorgeous playing games on the market.

So enjoy your quantity of games and sales quotes now because the PS3 hasn't even begun to bare it's fangs, but when it does you can bet that the current Wii and 360 will be discontinued and no where to be found and their fans will be shelling out more money for their replacements.

All three Consoles are in this for the long run. I do find it funny that people are so convinced that "x" console will fail. Here is my prediction

"All three consoles will last to the end of this generation"

The PS3 will outlast all the competition. Because even if Sony comes out with a new console in 2014, they will still love the PS3 and will keep it alive as long as they can, while Nintendo and MS will kill the old one, and force gamers to buy the new one right away.

Hmm, by my estimation the PS3 will be a last gen console come 2011/2012 when MS launches their new console so how will it feel than when the PS3 looks like a Atari 2600 next to the new MS console ? :P

There is no such thing as longevity anymore with electronics. How many iPods have come out in the last 3 years? Most things are outdated shortly after they are released. I admit the PS3 has more going for it. But in a few years Microsoft or someone else will release a new system that will bury the PS3. It has long life as a movie player as long as Blu-rays catch on. Otherwise it's another 4-5 year console. I may be wrong but I really see the death of the 10 year console with tech changing so fast. Sony's boasts are nothing but hot air...

I think the PS3 will have longevity, unfortunately for Sony the next xbox will begin to roll out in a matter of years, while their console is just reving up. ANd if their specs are so close right now, I imagine the next xbox will blow ps3 outta the water forcing sony to move ahead on PS4 earlier than expected. If the PS4 has the same rocky start as PS3 then sony will be in a rut. That or they will continue with PS3, and pretty much any game for next xbox will be better in terms of graphics. Storage at that point will be the same since ther eis only one HD format now.

Nintendo on the other hand, it really doesnt matter what they do, because they are not in the race to the same level, and they can release their next system whenever they want, which is usually every 4 years.

Compared to the techonology on the PC, the PS3 is already outdated. It's not so much about the technology however, it's about the games that appeal to the masses. You want proof? The PS2 is obviously inferior in technology to the PS3 right, yet it's still going strong and even outselling some of the next-gen consoles on a weekly basis. Sure, it's cheaper, but the reason people haven't moved on to the PS3, Wii or 360 is because the PS2 still have 100's and 100's of great titles to choose from at a cheap price. Whether the PS3 can do the same thing is still up in the air. If they don't get enough great software, people will move on to the next-gen or another next-gen console.

well since Xbox fanboys will probably have to buy the Xbox720 soon because we know MS will drop support for its current console, since thats the only way for them to sell units before competition comes in...

I think PS3 will have the longest life-span for this generation... (as happened for previous Sony systems released before... they do care about their fans..)

Wii is not even worth mentioning in this topic about longevity of a console...

sony has succeded in the past becasue it had a large amount of support to their platform. the success of the wii may change everything despite the fact the ps3 is more powerful and built for the long run.

the wii is number one in sales, and its continuing to lead in sales month after month, despite the fact that the 360 and ps3 are more powerful than the wii. if this keeps up for the wii, third party developers should have no choice to fully support the wii with more of their popular big name franchises. so far, that hasn't happened yet. monster hunter3 and fatal frame have abandoned the ps3 and jumped to the wii. will there be more franchises that will jump ship from sony to nintendo? time will tell. if it does happen sony is in big trouble, i think.

And give me a really good explanation on why its not worth mentioning. Oh and just saying that because of its graphics doesn't justify the argument cause alot of pc gamers still play games with inferior graphics compared to games coming out today.

I'll give you a really good reason, because the Wii has last gen hardware specs and therefore is already outdated and will not have any longevity against the other 2 superior console regardless of it's sales, everyone knows the old saying "people want what they can't get" and right now you can't get the Wii unless you stumble upon a store right after they received a shipment so thats why people keep trying to get their hands on it, that and the curiosity of the motion controls combined with it's low price.

Besides you can't tell me that after over a year and a half of being on the market that Nintendo still can't meet demand, that is such a crock, it's just their way of keeping rejuvenated interest in the Wii by making it appear illusive and hard to find.

I think Sony took a Conservative Effort this gen. They didnt want to release all there big guns in the first 2 years or so, so tehir spreading it out alot. That way, you always have some big title to look forward to the next year, while MS unloaded all their Bullet Chambers in their forst 3 years. This may be a good way of doing it or a bad way of doing it.

I agree with 2 of the 3. They have not proven they are going to win in the long run though. The X360 I think is down for the count but the Wii is a mystry right now. It all depends if somehow there is a shift in developement that most feared would happen (that being most of the top 3rd party titles releasing on the Wii first or exclusive to it). My experience in the game industry makes me think that the PS3 will probably be on top but something about this Wii crazyness can't be ignored. The rental stores I run, the Wii rental revenue is almost equal to X360's......yet there is half the titles/qty available to rent. I'm telling you if the Wii got the majority of 3rd party support it would kill everyone. Right now that is the only thing holding it off (hell I might start playing it again if that happens)

Hate to break it to you but a system with a 256 mb video card is not going to wow people ten years from now since it is allready obsolete. 360 has more vid memmory -> better textures ->better graphics. Period.

PC hardware is already a good 2 years ahead of the PS3, I doubt the PS3 is going to last 10 years from a graphics standpoint. The PS2 will have trouble lasting that long and it was/is way more popular then the PS3. Have fun enjoying your PS3 when everyone else has already moved on to much better machines.

How hard is it to accept the fact that both consoles are pretty much equal and are both awesome. seriously. Not to mention that Multiplats these days look the exact same on both 360 and PS3.

Yeah, but thats not necessarily true for the latest Multiplat games. I didnt notice better texture for DMC 4 on 360 compared to the PS3 version, burnout also.

For the most part I agree, but look at this as a response to the ignorant TC who is claiming that the PS3 "was designed for the future unlike Wii and 360." The implication is that PS3 has amazing technology the other systems don't have but your right the graphics DO look similar which pretty much debunks what he is saying. Truth is 360 has the slight edge in the graphics department but most people would not even notice. Obviously both are much better then Wii but I would not be so quick to doubt that system like many cows tend to do. Wii may have actually created new demographics in the world of gaming. They expanded the genre to many people that probably never played any videogames at all which I find awesome.

Or maybe it's because it's damn near impossible to pump out a million units of hardware a month, when it's not as "outdated" as you think. It might not be rediculously blazing fast or push more pixels than you know what to do with, but it only uses about half a watt of power, is damn near silent, tiny, and doesn't get hot. Why? Because Nintendo put all their development budget into developing hardware that runs efficiently, and cool.

yes, however, many Review sources have either stated theres no differnces or that the PS3 version looked better. also, i think I remebered a story where someone uncovered those Screens where not true. I dont know, the game was really fun though.

Hate to break it to you but a system with a 256 mb video card is not going to wow people ten years from now since it is allready obsolete. 360 has more vid memmory -> better textures ->better graphics. Period.

It actually dosnet, but whatever.

Actually it DOES. Lol, "whatever", nice rebuttal!

How hard is it to accept the fact that both consoles are pretty much equal and are both awesome. seriously. Not to mention that Multiplats these days look the exact same on both 360 and PS3.

Im not arguing about the TC's ignorance, im just stating There really isnt any large differnce between PS3 and 360. Both Multiplat games they have look Identical, where teh only way to tell a differnce in either favor of 360 or PS3 is if you break down every frame and look at it through a microscope.

sources have either stated theres no differnces or that the PS3 version looked better. also, i think I remebered a story where someone uncovered those Screens where not true. I dont know, the game was really fun though. black_awpN1
Well regardless of what multiplats look better or not, for the TC to say the PS3 will last a minimum of 10 years is plain dumb. In 9 years from now PS3 graphics will be laughable, it will be like how we see PS1 graphics now. No one but the devoted fanboys or gamers will still be playing the PS3 then. Gamers as a whole want new things. Do you still play your PS1 on a regular basis?

While Sony will still be holding on, scraping the bottom of the pan for crumbs with the PS3 6 years from now, the other two gaming companies, Microsoft and Nintendo will already have released better, faster, newer technology, next-gen consoles.

PC hardware is already a good 2 years ahead of the PS3, I doubt the PS3 is going to last 10 years from a graphics standpoint. The PS2 will have trouble lasting that long and it was/is way more popular then the PS3. Have fun enjoying your PS3 when everyone else has already moved on to much better machines.karasill

I agree, Times have changed, technology is moving faster than ever before. If MS launches first again it will be a repeat. Sony playing catch up. They should have waited after they saw how powerful the 360 was and put out a way more powerful console. I have yet to be wowed by my ps3 and Im sick of waiting for games I cant get on my 360. I havent fired it up for weeks to play a game.

Are you honestly ignoring the fact that PS3 sales are seriously picking up and MANY analysts and Game Biz people are predicting PS3 to be the Comeback kid this year? not to mention all teh great games.

All I was saying since Sony is planning a 10 + year life cycle with the PS3, don't expect a next next-gen console from them 6 years from now. But you could expect Nintendo and Microsoft releasing newer, better, faster, more advance next-gen consoles. So once again, Sony will be playing catch up. And who knows, they might catch up again, and the cycle goes on and on.

well i still think that gears looks better then anything on PS3 uncharted inlcuded. Gears 2 will probably have the best graphics of any console game this year.

I personally think there 10 year plan is going to get cut short by about 4 or 5 years.

well since Xbox fanboys will probably have to buy the Xbox720 soon because we know MS will drop support for its current console, since thats the only way for them to sell units before competition comes in...

I think PS3 will have the longest life-span for this generation... (as happened for previous Sony systems released before... they do care about their fans..)

Wii is not even worth mentioning in this topic about longevity of a console...

PS3nut

Besides you can't tell me that after over a year and a half of being on the market that Nintendo still can't meet demand, that is such a crock, it's just their way of keeping rejuvenated interest in the Wii by making it appear illusive and hard to find.

the Wii has sold the most consoles in a timespan of 1 1/2 years.

is that not a good enough reason for them to have supply issues?

Hmm, by my estimation the PS3 will be a last gen console come 2011/2012 when MS launches their new console so how will it feel than when the PS3 looks like a Atari 2600 next to the new MS console ? :PSecretPolice

It'll be a PS2/Next Gen comparison, to be honest. Either way, I bet MS will try and rush out a console again. You'd think they'd learn, but the profits and advantage in third party developers they gained by releasing a year early, they'll want to get again.

I play games not consoles..........Neontope

PS3nut
Please relax a little... 10 years from now the ps3 is going to be a dinosaur, just like the 360...It would be about time to use your brain cells a little more because the ps3 cells will just be history in ten years...Seriously, i prefer the 360 and i think it's technically very similar to the ps3 (not in architecture but in power) but I can picture my self with hopefully another console, maybe 2 generation above the ps3 or 360... And no, the ps3 just like the 360 are starting to get old aready (in regards of pc)... So enjoy your ps3 now and for the next few years, but please drop your ten year argument, cause by then, most of gamers will be playing on something else...live with your time... unless you only play ps1 games right now, you fall short of any arguments...

I hate to break it to you but the PS3's Processing power doubles that of 360, the 360 processes 1 gigaflop per second, where the PS3 processes 2 gigaflops per second, actually this isn't even worthy of an arguement because it's common knowledge to anyone with knowledge that the PS3 is the most technologically advanced console on the market, even microsoft knows it.

So you'd better get your facts straight before you post, and take another look at the ram total and allocation because actually the 360 and PS3 share the same amount of ram it's just allocated differently, but the pure graphical horsepower of the consoles goes to the PS3.

Don't believe me ? Google PS3 and 360 specs and put them side by side and then be enough of a man to come back in here and admit your careless posting of the absolute inferior 360 specs.

gigaflops? is that even a word? I mean im not techsavvy but im sure thats not even a real technical word.

However, all three systems will do amazing...just not only the ps3
