I couldn't find a thread on this.

He says straight ports to Vita are "silly and meaningless", yet he is doing a port himself. And before anyone says "its a game from the ground up" come off it. Street Fighter X Tekken is a shameless port. Much like SSFIV on 3DS. May be good games, but they are still ports.

Its good he wants to build a game specifically for Vita but to also admit in the article you are porting is hypocritical. You may be adding additional features to it but additional features merely make the game more appealing to the hardcore fans and nothing more.

Still its nice to see he is interested in the system.

Does it matter if it's a port if it's a brand new game? Wouldn't it be better categorized as multiplatform? Usually, something is seen as nothing but a port after the game has been out on another console for a while. Nothing's concrete, but it sounds like sf x tekken Vita will be out the same time as the console versions. EDIT: also... it's not the same as the 3DS Street Fighter game because sf x tekken will look identical to the console versions, backed up by Ono himself and footage released to the public which you can find on youtube. the situation is clearly not the same.

I see your point, but I think he's referring to devs who half-ass their games (like ones being on PSP/DS for the sake of just being on it with no effort put in whatsoever to make it take advantage of its hardware).

As devs, they're trying to fully use the handheld's unique features instead of just straight porting it from consoles.

Other than static background images, the 3DS version shows little compromised as far as I'm concerned having played both 360/3DS versions for hours on end. I'm not saying 100% the same, but the 3DS version looks very, very good

Very misleading title and OP. He's clearly saying doing a straight port is meaningless and they are working to take advantage of the features of the handheld. How is that being a hypocrite? Did he not take advantage of the 3DS 3d? Is he not trying to take advantage of the vita's features? A straight port is one that goes to another platform with no changes made to suit that platform.

What are you talking about??? They are developing a game for multiple platforms. That doesn't mean it's a port.

Agreed. Game hasn't been released yet, so a port it is not.

Agreed. Game hasn't been released yet, so a port it is not.

The Wii version of Twilight Princess was technically a Gamecube port and the Wii version came out first.

Isn't that exactly what a port is? Aren't all multiplatform games designed for a lead system first and then ported to the other systems?

I don't see the hypocrisy here. Seems pretty clear he's referring to just taking a game and dumping it on a platform, not bringing a game over and optimizing and tailoring it for a new system.

SFxT looks like it falls under the latter category.

Slashkice
Really? Coz SSF IV 3D was a pretty good "dumping it on a platform" This is Capcom. The people who published Dark Void. Who ported Deadrising to Wii. Who port RE4 to every platform imaginable. It will be a port, possibly a very good one, but I doubt it has much more Vita specific content than any other specific content was created for other ports by Capcom.

Technically speaking yes, when you look into it a port is just bringing a game over from a platform to one that it was never really designed/intended to be on. A multiplat would assume the game was intended for that platform to begin with, small difference, none in fact but both are done for different reasons.
