Exactly, when OoT was released, it was perfect. You can't compare it to more recent gamees.

I know right. For me OoT is the best game of all time because it was the first time I was immersed in a game. It had me from the begining to the end. Even then I didn't want it to end. MM is better than OoT, but OoT is a classic that everyone should play. I would love a remake of OoT.

The only reason I don't call OoT overrated is because many ppl actually say it's great and it sorta ''defined'' 3D adventure and took things to a level never done before.

But to me that's not what I see. What I really think of it is that many of it's concepts weren't that great and it wasn't that fun either, the best concept of the game was the time-swap.

I consider many other games on it's own time to be better including own Zelda's Majora's Mask, Mario 64, Half life, Goldeneye, MGS etc..

The funny thing is OOT's fighting system set the standards for games like Ninja Gaiden. It was the first of its type in 3D.

That said, OOT being the best game of all time is opinion. However collectively, most people share that same opinion that OOT is the greatest. Clearly you do not. However to me OOT is like a first car or the area where you grew up in - it means a lot to me because I played it while I was growing up and it reminds me of all those times. The feeling of playing through OOT for the first time hasn't been matched since and it is a real shame many people will never understand what it felt like.

I think you're right in a way. OoT set the industry standard and the industry obliged. All of the good things that OoT did have been copied, refined and expanded. I think majora's mask has not been parelled though, as if the industry took that game as an example of what not to do in a video game. (:()

TP was a great game, it just wasn't to everyone's taste. I loved it, I wished the bosses were harder, but it still had plenty of challenge and fun in just about every other aspect of the game. Very dark game, rivaling majora at times

Ok then, here is what I want you to do. Firstly, I want you to go here -- Games Released In 1998 -- Just so you can realize what else was being released on Consoles around the time.

Secondly, go read (that's right R E A D) the Gamespot review (here) so that you can get some sense of what it was like for someone back then to play it.

The reason that this game is held in such high reguard is because back then it was A M A Z I N G. There was no game on the market (for consoles, have to point this out because of Half-Life) that did 3D so well, and with such amazing controlls. Is Ninja Gaiden Black a better game? Yeah sure by today's standards, but did Ninja Gaiden completely found an entire new way of playing an entire genre? I don't think so.

EDIT: And now that I actually examine that list, what a freaking great year for gaming! Half-Life, Starcraft, Metal Gear Solid, Unreal, Fallout 2, Xenogears, LoZ, Theif, and Baulder's Gate! Holy crap what a release list.

I absolutly agree, its a great game but MM is better than it in every way possible. That game was truly flawless and the first difficult Zelda game.

lol how??

When N64 was out i bought it but i didnt think those games were anythng special, while people were playing zelda i was playing BAldurs Gate,Fallout,Quake2,Half-Life,Starcraft,Tiberian Sun,Age of empires2,heroes 3...those games were a lot better than anything N64 had hands down IMO at least! (i did lots of online playing back then)

BTW thats RPG,FPS and RTS genre, for me best types of games tell me how would those genres be different today if not for zelda and mario 64??? HAHA:lol:

Most people put zelda on a pedestal couse of nostalgia and couse they were younger then i myself was done with Mario and platformers back in the SNES days.

I know games are played for fun :) but everyone has his own idea of fun and for me Being a fat red plumber or a Boy without a fairy just wasnt enjoyable...it was fun for a while but too imature and simplistic for my taste!!!Like Wii today so it was with the N64 then, those are good party consoles imo but they offer nothing in terms of mature storylines and such bah no point in writing anymore let the flames embrace me

Honestly, if you determine whether or not you're going to play a game solely based off of the main character alone, you're owning yourself for being narrow minded and extremely shallow when it comes down to what TRULY makes a game great. I'm 29 and I would take OoT or Mario64 over ANY GTA game to date. They provided an actual gaming experience that was genuinely fun the whole way through (in fact, I still play OoT at least a couple times a month still). GTA on the other hand gets old quickly once the novelty of running over pedestrians dies out.

???:? i never once mentioned GTA,and when im playing an ofline game im looking for it to have a great and compelling storyline, also gameplay is a big factor and i just dont find anything in Mario64 that great,Zelda is a bit better but not much best thing about those games back then were their graphics IMO

Well I enjoyed a lot of games on the 64 more than zelda...I enjoyed a lot of games on the NES and SNES more too...I don't think it's the best game of all time, but its a top twenty game for sure.

It was the best game of it's time, no game has felt so good like OoT did.OGTiago

smb....smb3...smw...space invaders...mkII...most people are just ignorant of earlier generations....with respect to the 3d era zelda did something big by giving a massive world on a console, but I still don't think it's the best of all time.

I know games are played for fun :) but everyone has his own idea of fun and for me Being a fat red plumber or a Boy without a fairy just wasnt enjoyable...it was fun for a while but too imature and simplistic for my taste!!!

NOTE: Shortened for my response...

To "imature" you say? Now that's funny. Becuase if you ask me, someone that can actually be comfortable playing a "fat red plumber" or a "Boy without a fairy" would be the most mature person in the world. Maturity is not defined as being able to handle the most blood and guts and gore and sex, it's the ablility to rationally handle all situations.

Now I can understand if you just plain don't like Platformers or Adventure games, but to completely disreguard an entire series of games simply because you don't feel comfortable playing as the main character because he's not a "manly man" sounds pretty *immature* to me.

I agree. It was a fantastic game, but I just don't consider it "the best ever".

[QUOTE="lordsettra12"][QUOTE="SuperMario_46"]OoT is one of the best gaming experiences ever, however i find Twilight Princess, RE4 & Wave race BS to be better, its a top five, but not the best. lordsettra12

TP was terrible. Very boring Zelda game, took forever to start going all the other 3D zeldas where soo much better MM being the best. RE4 is a incredible game

You see, those are what we call opinions.

Umm did u play TP??? it was EASY boring and WAS SOO SLOW until u get the master sword. it was like a worse version of OoT

I didn't mind the slow start. to me it's like a lot of adventure games. getting to know the characters makes the experiences better to me. remember that not everyone will enter knowing all about Hyrule. As for being easy. I didn't care. it was still like a 40 hour game anyway.

Edit: Maturity in a game for me doesnt mean blood and gore its mostly about the storyline

Heh i played lots of Mario games during the nes/snes era, also i play Mario Kart 64 even to this day when in need of a great party game!

But once the Snes era was done i moved to PC gaming and i also bought a N64 and it was not really about maturity,it was more that i didnt have the will to play those games,Mario64 was good to play once in a while, for short bursts of fun but nothing more at least for me those games lost their power of getting me hooked after i tried Daggerfall,Fallout etc they just felt too simplistic for me!!

In short they werent what i was looking for in a game;)

I kinda agree. I mean don't get me wrong...OOT was very revolutionary for the gaming industry....but I enjoyed Majora's mask more.

Agreed. Besides....3d zeldas aren't known for being particularly hard. If anything Wind waker was easier than TP.
