Well if I wasn't a cheapass lazy bum who can't get the will up to uprgrade his rig, I would definitely buy it for PC.
But, seeing as how I am, I think I will play it on the 360.
absolutely pc.
i have a 4000+, 2gb ram, and a x800 and it runs very smoothly. it hardly even dips below 40 fps and i have it on 1024x768, 2xAA 4xAF and all high settings
I have a laptop:
GeForce Go 7800 (256MB)
2GB ram
7200RPM HDD
Vista
Core Duo 1.73GHz
...or will the 360 provide a better experience for me?
Hmmm mods, crap load of custom maps... "better graphics" supposedly, plus prefered choice of kb/m... I say PC.
None the less, you got mods and custom maps mate. Wait until the Portal community gets comfortable with the editors. I Swear you'll see the next freaking Quake 3 defrag craze.
Why not make your mind up yourself?DeihmosYou don't get to test out each version on your equipment, you know.

If you're asking because you're worried about performance..there's no reason to be worried. That system will run the Orange Box titles flawlessly..

I also got a 40" samsung tv soo...
Honestly, the only reason that I'm buying it for 360 is that I don't want to piss around with Steam.

That's a great point, I didn't even consider it.
Steam is pretty much the slowest online service that ever existed. It took me over two full days to download the updates and get Half Life 2 running when it launched. It was a huge fiasco all over the internet. Millions of people bought a game they couldn't even play OFFLINE for two days because of that garbage Steam functionality.
Steam is a great idea, just horribly executed. I thought they might have fixed it, but I watched my friend take a solid 5 minutes to boot up TF2 through Steam.

So you depend on system war posters to decide for you?
Yes, because everything is black and white. There is no gray area.

Some people know more about certain things than others. Is it a problem to get others opinions? Better yet: is you worrying about how other people make *their* decisions worth *your* time?

Will my PC be able to run the Orange Box?
My specs are:
-Radeon 9250 (128 mb)
- 2GB RAM
- Intel Pentium 4 Processor 3.00 GHZ (2 CPUs)

better off getting it on the 360 for you...it'll run but not well
Only reason I don't buy it for PC is
I can rent it from gamefly on the 360.
Plus I don't want to install it.
XD88FDB
you wouldnt want to rent the PC version even if you could.....the Mods for the game like garry's mod, Insurgency...etc will last you years...plus all the user created maps for TF2.
you also dont have to install if your using Steam.

i've tried countless mods for half life and half life 2 and still most of the user made maps are fun for like 5 minutes and almost all of the mods are not as good as cs 1.6.
most people treat mods as their a gift from god or somethin but really 90% of it is not very good/very balanced.

Yep mods are seriously overrated and the vast majority of them are just terrible or a waste of time. Sure there are some that are good but most are just bad hence the reason i never bother with them. I prefer the official content.
The way the mods for TF2 will work which I sometimes find extremely annoying is when you join a server you end up downloading a pile of maps, sounds and a lot of junk files. So if you can't always play on the same server you will accumulate a lot. This decision basically comes down to what platform you prefer to play on and there is nothing difficult in in that decision. Both versions basically look the same and the only difference is the controls and of course the PC has dedicated servers.

The fact that the 360 version has framerate issues damn near forces me to get the PC version. ****!

Then stop downloading random garbage. There's plenty of mod community resources that can give you an idea of which user-made content is worth downloading, and which isn't.
Stop acting like there's a lack of quality content. There's TONS of quality user-made content out there, often on par with commercial-level content (and every once in a while, even exceeding it.)
I find it laughable people are trying to downplay the significance of mods.

Bad maps/content won't make it on to good servers. I don't understand what you're complaining about. There's alot of great mappers/modders out there. Of course there's bad ones too, but nobody says you have to download their work.
And I don't understand how the existence of bad content, that doesn't even get played, makes mods "overrated." What an ignorant notion.
Stop trying to downplay the significance of the modding community. It's pathetic..you aren't going to convince any reasonable person. When you think about it, EVERY major multiplayer gameplay advancement in FPS gaming has been done through mods.

Take a chill pill. They are overrated imo because I never found them important or a deciding factor. The last mod I installed was a UT2004 mod and I was the only person on the server. In the case of maps, game modes etc that download when you connect to a server I can deal with but it can sometimes be annoying especially when the content is bad. The mods that you have to download and install I never bother with them. It's ignorant to not understand that everyone has an opinion.

It's very difficult for multiplayer mods to be successful. Mod creators are tasked with getting their mod's name out there, and that's usually the biggest issue: getting people to play it. There's some good mods out there that simply never take off because they don't have the support of a player base.
Of course there's plenty of successful ones out there. Counter-Strike naturally comes to mind as the most pointed to. But there's ALOT of other hugely successful multiplayer mods. Threewave CTF from back in the day, Team Fortress, Chaos, Weapons Factory, Red Orchestra (now a commercial game,) Alien Swarm, and Killing Floor..just to name some off the top of my head.
And server administrators have complete control over which maps are on their maplist. Only the good ones make it on to that list on good servers. Even if a bad map does make it in, players will usually complain and ask that it be removed, or just avoid voting if the game has a voting option.
I find it laughable that people discuss HL2 mods more than they discuss HL2...Spartan070
Uhh..why? Half-Life 2 is a good singleplayer game. The HL2 mod community, on the other hand...I can't even summarize in a few sentences.
Stop acting like user-created content is some minor extra. It isn't.

Does it really? We should get DaysAirlines to confirm that. If it's minor stuff, maybe it shouldn't turn us off.
Anyone know if GameStop/EB will allow you to exchange a PC game for something else if the specs kill your PC? I'd like to try it on the PC first...and if it's too much for my machine to run respectibly, I'd like to get the 360 version.
Possible?
