PSN is free, the only thing you have to pay for are things you download, with the exception of demos, trailers, and themes.
Pretty much the only difference between a US and a UK account is that sometimes one region will get demos and/or games earlier than another. A lot of people have an account for both regions so they don't have to wait.
And no, you don't need a seperate router for the PS3.
Playstation Store is part of PSN (which is free)
The differences between accoutns is that some stores in different regions contain different content than others (like for example Japan has some demos that the USA Playstation Store might not have, and vice versa)
You don't need a seperate router for the PS3

Ace132
all the demos are free
the only thing you have to pay for on the store is downloadable PSN games and extra downloadable content.

You don't have to pay to access it, but you do have to pay for each individual item you download

The only difference is PS Store content, and you can't change but you can make another free account in any region.

w00t thanks! Another question,my PS3 "cant" seem to connect to the "router".do i need something to buy in order to connect to it ? (asorryfor another Nubish question :P)It's ok. Can't complain too much, since it's free and you can game (not that it helps me at all. I suck beyond measure at Resistance multi :p).
My only issues with it stem more from the downright unfriendliness inherent in some aspects of the OS, which hamper my enjoyment of the PSN. Aside from what I've been hearing about MGO, these are basically mild annoyances, not a single dealbreaker.
Let me tell you straight out...
The PSN is a good, functional service that is free. Xbox Live is a more advanced, much more functional service that cost money.
As far as quality... Xbox Live > PSN.
As far as value... PSN > Xbox Live.
The PSN is good enough but just not better. Also not all the demos are free, because you can only find some of these demos exclusive to this thing called Qore that you pay for $25 a year. Also not all PSN arcade games have free trials, while every single XBLA game have try before you buy free trials.
