Ouya has responded to a wave of negative reviews after a handful of sites got their hands on early consoles sent out to Kickstarter backers. The company has promised that said negative issues will have been remedied by the time the final console builds hit retailers on June 4.

The reviews began last week and pointed out a raft of technical and stability issues, as well as a lack of marquee games on the marketplace. You can read both reviews here.

In a statement sent to GI.biz, an Ouya rep stressed that he early consoles were not fit for press review and that a second press wave of units will go out in line with the consoles general sale on June 4. It begs questions as to why the early consoles sent to paying backers were missing features in the first place.

The message reads, We will be making Ouya review units available in early to mid-May so that you are able to review the more complete consumer experience and prepare your coverage in time for the June 4th retail launch.

To clarify for you Ouya has sent no review units out to press. Any reviews you have seen online are a result from individuals who received early backer units from supporting our Kickstarter.

What do you think of the above? Should the console have been delayed to allow for polish, or is this OK as long as Ouya remedies the issues? Let us know below.

Thanks MCV.

wait, what about the backers? They're just going to have the bad controller or are the problems just software?

The positive thing from this whole Ouya thing is backers will hopefully be more vigilant in the future when supporting such type of projects.

Yeah, I don't really understand what the draw of this project was? Android games on your TV?

That's what I was about to say. The reviews so far bash it like it was supposed to replace Xbox or something. I'm just speaking in defense for Ouya, but I personally, wouldn't buy it.

You can't blame them. When you build an Android console for the sole reason of being able to play games on a 1080p TV, what else would you compare it with? What other product plays games on HDTVs?

Even if we ignore that, the library is 'phail' compared to the current Play Store. It's almost as bad a move as Microsoft making Window RT not run any of the existing Microsoft apps.

You know I just realised (and it may already exist) that video output + a nice wireless controller for the next Android phones would render the OUYA irrelevant.
