Believe the Hype!!!!

9.5

+ Enveloping universe filled with interesting characters and revealing side stories

Article states the the charcters are the heart and soul of the game. Poignant was a term used for their stories and side missions and not everything will have a happy ending.

+ Outstanding flexible combat and gorgeous environments

So the clunky ME combat has been fixed.

- Main story a bit disappointing.

All they say is it takes too long to build up steam, but uncovering the mysteries of the collectors and reapers is irresistable. Although they say due to it being the middle chapter in the trilogy.

- Dull element mining and hacking

Called it boring

? Why do characters cry oil slicks?

"But for all the myriad impovements that make ME2's visuals so appealing and its combat so exhilarating, its ultimately the way it moves us that makes it so memorable"

------------------------------------

Just as I had predicted, the side stories were going to be stronger than its main, but really, the characters and the creware the main plot in this one, more than any other Bioware game. Even its FMV trailer alluded to that fact. Its about winning loyalty over a group of flawed and shady characters, some who would care less about the task at hand and its importance.

honestly, lets wait a bit longer, because A: It is a dedicated xbox magazine, B: It is an exclusive review. Two major indicators of bias, though if it is legit, it is awesome ;)

Just go to oxmonline.com, but you would have to wait for the review to be uploaded on the site though.

Yeah no kidding. I have been waiting for this game since 2007 and now the days of Mass Effect's return are upon us. Judging from that review, its all that I hoped it to be :)

Wait.....That's what they mean by disappointing story...

That it's slow...

:lol:You can say the samething about Mass Effect 1's story. If that's the case then I can't wait to play it.

Dissappointing would have been something at like of this:

Shepards long lost dad who everyone thought were dead magically shows up being impressed with "how big shepherd has grown and he is sooooo proud of him" and has a problem which he wants him to help him out with. Presumably something with some sort of arch nemesis who just by coincidence is a reaper in disguise (terminator?), halfway through this incredibly unpredicable story the nemesis shows up, kills his dad, holds a speech, shepherd fires a well aimed shot at him and still misses, the nemesis laughs menacingly and flies away in some strange space ship. Shepherd has a bit of an emo period then goes off to kill the reaper for a second attempt at which he this time succeds.

How's THAT for a story?

and i will be apologizing in the start of febuary if it just so happend to be a spoiler

Is the element mining that exploration mode? I swear. we haven't heard anything about how the optional exploration works. It was horrendous in the last game. That is the only thing keeping me from purchasing this.

Yeah that shouldn't be a minus...

Anyone with any knowledge in sci-fi should know that patience is a key skill to gain entry into the genre. Science fiction stories starts slow most of the time.

Yes, but there are people like me who actually like exploring things. If there is no incentive to actually do planet exploring, then I'm not buying the game. With all the great games coming out this year, I'm getting pickier. Sorry, but if you aren't going to fix a glaring flaw from your first game, you aren't worth 60 bucks.

Dude, get off me. You obviously couldn't read the context of the sentence. It wasn't a literal question, I'm not going to spell it out for you. Still I'm surprised they gave it a 9.5, usually games that are exclusive AAA (well on PC too but kind of exclusive) that are reviewed by the platform's official magazines are given 10's. That's still a good score though.

Strong memorable characters sound excellent, and with the improved combat game's looking phenominal. Most fans will tolerate and enjoy the story as well I think.

There is no Mako exploration, you are dropped directly on the point of interest, thats criticism of the aspect in the first game is gone. What the criticism was the mining minigame where you scan the planet from your ship for minerals, and mine with probes. The review implies that they fixed all the problems in the first game.

Suprised to see it's not a 10 but there again OXM is definatly the more fairest of reviews for exclusive magazines unless the game's Halo.

Well then, how do they handle exploration? Are there any wide open spaces for exploring or is it stricly these closed off spaces without much to offer? Sounds more like a downgrade to me.

They did improve technical issue, the gunplay, and many other facets of the game itself. But the only thign i was ever concerned with was how they would handle exploration. Sci-fi RPGs should be all about exploration. Going where no man has gone before. Into that good night. It just feels like another random RPG if you don't have great exploration mechanics.

*Sigh* Fine. Complain that the Exploration has been "Dumbed Down", and the rest of us will enjoy what will clearly be an excellant sequel to a superb Game.

I agree. I enjoyed exploring the boring worlds for what it was. I honestly thought they were just going to improve on exploring with Mako with at least different looking planets, and not just get rid of it. I was probably the only one that enjoyed going in Mako...

I'm starting to wonder if they only gave the first a 10 because it was 360 exclusive at the time.

9.5 is still great. If the main story is a fizzle that's a bit upsetting but it sounds like they fixed the lame sidequests and gunplay which is nice.

I think the main story will be a Your Mileage May Vary kind of deal....but its really about the characters. And not doing side stories does impact the main quest.

Spoiler warning please. :(sonicare

To be fair, that's how almost all of Bioware's games play out. Mass Effect 1 was a bit different since you recruited everyone at the start, and NWN1 was a bit different since there wasn't much of a story, but the rest of them follow a fairly straightforward structure that rarely changes.

Anyway, it's slightly concerning to hear that the story is one of the negatives. Perhaps people's worries that Bioware were spending too much time on the combat and not enough on everything else were justified?

Then again, the first game's story was also totally disappointing, since it really only felt like 1/3rd of a full RPG and certainly wasn't 'the best story ever' (as the lemmings hyped it to be), imo.

I like how each class has a different exclusive ability in this one, unlike the last game where the hybrid classes were basically two halves of different pure classes. Soliders can slow down time (mentally) with Adreneline Rush, Vanguards can teleport around the battlefield with Biotic Charge, Sentinels have the defensive Tech Armor ability, Adepts can open up Singularity, Engineers can deploy combat drones and hack AI, and Infiltrators have the Cloak ability. More varied playstyles than the first ME's classes.

[QUOTE="texasgoldrush"]I like how each class has a different exclusive ability in this one, unlike the last game where the hybrid classes were basically two halves of different pure classes.

The Vanguard ability is just sick. I was not 100% sure which class I would play first but after watching the vanguard video I was sure.

[QUOTE="sonicare"]Spoiler warning please. :(Planeforger

It more likely because they put most of their focus on the characters and their storylines, and loyalty quests and others. This game will be more about the Characters than any other Bioware game. Even the big trailer suggests this. The character aspect of the game was called top notch, poignant, and emotionally resonanting that wil stay with you for days.
