So according to Michael Pachter there are credible rumors going around that the Nextbox will require you to be always online.  Now granted Pachter's track record isn't the greatest, but even a broken clock is right twice a day.

So this is my Question if it's true and the Next Box will require you to be always online or at least require you to activate your games online will it affect you decision to buy one?

Uhh, proof/link? Pachter may be a d-bag, but I highly doubt he knows about the next Xbox already.

I think Microsoft and Sony will approach this issue in the same way, they will let developers/publishers decide whether to implement always online or some other type of one time activation code. I don't think they will have a universal system that blocks all used games.

Well they don't seem to be bothered by it too much, 50% say it won't bother them and you do have to take into consideration of the haters so not every yes vote is legit. Some people would vote it would if I asked if they would be ok with Microsoft giving the Next box away for free. So taking that into consideration I'd say a least 75% seem fine with always online.

Sony caught MS off guard at first with their PS4 announcement. If MS doesn't make you have an always online connection it's most likely due to Sony not making the PS4 that way. MS's intentions were to do it, but they may not now due to Sony announcing PS4 that doesn't require it.

Sony will be giving publishers the right to block used games. So how they going that?

  1. require you active it online first = most likly
  2. build single code right into the disc

going be same for 720

I'm inclined to believe this is true. The PS4 event showed that Edge was spot on with their predictions (with the exception of the 8 GBs of GDDR5, which was likely a last minute change made by Sony). Edge has also said that the next Xbox will require an always online connection, so I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft goes this route. I won't be happy about it though.

Anyway, I'm ok with online activation, but always online? No. I don't want to be getting kicked out of games when my wireless connection drops for a couple of seconds or something goes haywire.

This is just such a stupid decision, and I'm seriously hoping Edge is wrong (but not counting on it).

I don't know why anyone is questioning this rumour. It's 2013: virtually everyone and their dog has broadband internet and wi-fi, virtually everything you'd ever want to do with a console requires an internet connection anyway, all the cool new features for next-gen consoles are going to be cloud/social-based, and so long as MS throws in a common-sense offline mode (or even a sh*tty, broken, Steam-esque offline mode) for when your ISP inevitably sh*ts the bed it'll be a total non-issue.

2nd one. They will make the disc put out a code stamped to a particular system or tie it in some other way to your system. That is the only real way to do it since PS4 isn't required to always be online.

Why do so many people keep calling the 3rd Xbox the 720? It has not been stated anywhere that MS is naming the 3rd Xbox the Xbox 720. MS stated they named the 360 because they meant that gaming was all encompasing. Therefore the 720 makes no sense.

50% is a pretty big percentage! That's a lot of people put off by this. Considering how small the 360's lead over PS3 was in marketshare, Microsoft can't afford to lose those kind of sales in the next generation. To be honest I highly doubt this would happen though.

720 is the name the community has given it. Until Microsoft releases official name for it then the community will change by calling it by it;s official name.

UNLESS they just call it xbox. then we will keep calling it that. WHY? look at stupid ipad 3. people call it that but the apple insist it's called the "new ipad"

Um yeah No. I don't want a social media box and I still play single player games which don't and should not require an internet connection.

Was this debunked already?

http://au.gamespot.com/news/next-xbox-requires-constant-internet-connection-report-6369346

If not, then what Pachter is saying might be true. Also to those who didn't actually watch the video of him saying all of this - I think it's the first time he hasn't actually said random **** (though most of what he said was a 'review' on the PS4 reveal, and his thoughts on it. Which I agree to when it comes to some stuff).
