And that would be a techdemo taking advantage of a certain hardware setup, not an actual game. I'm not really disputing that a kickass PC can do it, I'm questioning whether a game actually will. Point being that otherwise it doesn't really matter. Currently Crysis is the most graphically advanced PC game and I don't see it having such ridiculous textures applied everywhere.
And as you should've been able to tell by my post; I agree with that point. Consoles are forever limited by their RAM.
Oh and FYI: I was exaggerating.
InsaneBasura
Wrong, it is a techdemo taking advantage of Direct X 10 offers rather than merely a certain hardware setup, there is nothing in this tech demo that all DX 10 cards shouldn't at least be able to do, one thing I notice that people seem to forget is that DX 10 isn't merely a Graphics API, it is also a minimum standard which video cards must abide by in order to be DX 10 compatible, therego all DX 10 games should be able to handle this given the developer puts it all in since all DX 10 hardware is capable of using it.
Oh and FYI: I was pretty certain you were exaggerating, I decided to play it safe and mention it just in case you weren't exaggerating
And you need certain hardware to take advantage of DX10. And developers need to take advantage of it. And it will take time before that happens. I'm talking about practical applicadohicky in a realthingamajig game. As I said, Crysis is the most advanced PC game out there and it doesn't come close to the detail of that turd texture. I doubt even the techdemo does. PC games will eventually evolve to that kind of quality, but if it won't happen until 2009 it's kinda pointless to argue about it now.
Oh and FYI: Alrighty then.
So pretty much your biggest argument is time, developers need time to take advantage of DX 10 and hardware need to be developed for it, right? Then isn't it safe to say that eventually there will be a realthingamajig game that will use everything in this demo? Never say never, pplz. It's not like there aren't obvious advantages to geometry shaders, gpu side physics, and instancing so that developers would never bother to use them, anyway for Crysis not using the texture detail of 'that turd' (which is actually simply wet rock zoomed in REALLY close), it's probably more that they simply didn't bother implementing it rather than it being impossible to do so, we've seen that mods can drastically change texture quality, so why couldn't a mod at that level of detail in Crysis? It's not like Crysis is a console game without the ability for mods right?
As for the techdemo itself not actually having that level of texture detail, I can say for certain that it pretty much does, how do I know? Because I actually HAVE the demo on my computer, that other screenshot was actually taken on my computer, that wet rock picture was a screenshot from some guy at Guru3d
Here, have a couple extra pictures

Oh and FYI: Another neat thing is that everything you see here is procedurally generated, which means the Textures and the Rock formations you see here was made by the gpu itself, neat huh?
