QUESTION: If PS5 Pro it's such a bad deal in your mind, then tell what exactly you THINK PS5 Pro performance level will be at in comparison to the nearest PC alternative?

FOLLOW UP 1Q: what system/build do you have NOW?

The reason I ask is because I see a lot of you guys saying the PS5 Pro is not a significant upgrade over the PS5 which honestly blows my mind, especially from the so-called PC guys of this forum.

Did you get a significant* increase with your current PC and what did you pay?

I'll just remind all of you who seem to have missed the bullet point of what Mark Cerny said PS5 Pro was aiming to do: Take PS5's *30fps FIDELITY versions of games allow them to run at 60fps with UPGRADES to graphics, improved image quality & possible raytracing features ADDED on top!

If ^ this is accomplished that will effectively make PS5 Pro at minimum 2x the performance capability of OG PS5, however PS5 Pro Ray-tracing & AI capability instantly make it better than any comparable AMD GPU equivalent.

Also ppl seem confused about what these images intended demonstrate/convey

^ MAX PS5 setting @30fps ..................vs................^ MAX PS5 setting @60fps

Does your current or last PC upgrade AT LEAST provide you with 2x the performance upgrade at MAX settings over your previous system? Even though that would still not be a "significant" upgrade sticking to the logic being used here?

Yes....but I'm not speaking to those people.

I'm asking this question to the (which happen to be the majority of this board) PC advocates among this board.

This question could also potentially be applied to some PlaysStation fans, but only those who also adopt PC and favor it's continual upgrade to maintain viability approach.

Another thing I clearly remember from the PC community is they grossly underestimated the capability of PS5 at launch saying it was equivalent to a RTX2060 performance....who uses that card to compare to PS5 now?

Just an example of how wrong people who claim PC can be when it comes to actual technology.

Most PC guys don't understand anything about designing a complete all-in-one system & what the capability of that system will be. Meanwhile, Sony is literally a hardware & technology company.

Can't wait for the PS5 Pro vs nearest compatible PC comparisons

I'm speaking to the group who I intended my thread to be asking these questions of.

If you're looking to talk to another group, best you create your own thread to speak to those people if you want the answers you're looking for 👍

EDIT:

Also your suggestion doesn't even make any sense because I specifically ask: What PC equivalent do they think PS5 Pro will be AND what current PC hardware/build do they have.

The base questions in my thread could only be answered by current PC owners.

You need to think of a better line of deflection next time you try to derail a topic bud.

TAA is a known commodity in gaming at this point, however Sony seems to be keen on expressing their PSSR solution is something they've cultivated. We may have to wait to get a deeper analysis to answer it it's used with Sony's technology or if it's even needed.

It's interesting, of the usual suspect who have SUCH a vocal opinion of PS5 Pro price & it's "insignificant upgrade", NONE have been able to actually tackle the simple and straight forward questions I asked in this thread.

They are all Xbox/PC advocates and CLEARLY have a loud opinion about PS5 Pro validity, but can't engage in a discussion about the merit of their strong opinion.

It's almost as if I shine a light on how short-sighted their opinions are and prove that those who are making a big deal now are hypocrites because they know 😌 The act of simply answering the questions in my thread would expose that fact!

I just think legitimizing 700 dollar consoles in today's world is a really bad move. Sony may make some scratch off their corporate decisions but it doesn't leave gamers with an affordable console market going forward.... May as well build that rig.

People are saying it's more or less the equivalent of DLSS but for console. The effect of this solution is currently unknown to the public but we don't have long to wait to find out it's effect in image quality & performance uplift vs standard methods.

The PS5 Pro is such a scam in EU that you can buy a faster PC for the same price (link with builds in the post).

I'm so mad at Sony that I spent an hour this morning making custom pc parts lists for anyone looking to spend 800 € to get into gaming but think the PS5 Pro is outrageous.

There are 3 sheets. 1 if you don't plan on selling the base PS5 (if you even have it) so you can play the 5 exclusives it has, 1 if you plan on selling the base PS5 but keep the money, and 1 if you plan on selling the base PS5 and put that money towards the PC. Each sheet has 4 separate tables. Two for optional disc drive, two without disc drive. There are then 2 more cases. One if you need a cheap keyboard and mouse set, and one if you don't need that.

Prices are from mindfactory.de and they're generally within 10% around EU countries, but YMMV.

This is the most reasonable take of those who are on the PC side has made so far, HOWEVER

I'll just say this.

1. 1st please answer the first 2 questions in my thread please!

2. $700 is a new price bracket for console, however it LITERALLY bridges the gap between console and PC. (Increased graphics, higher level RT, 4k resolution/image quality, AI image reconstruction I.E. a DLSS like solution, all @ 60+fps). So if $700 is unreasonable for all that, what does that equivalent PC look like?

That is why the original question in my thread is relevant.

Exactly WHAT rig would you say we "may as well build"?

What does that PC look like in price if you're by passing on a PS5 Pro and what performance difference would you get on that PC vs price/performance compared to a PS5 Pro?

This is the disconnect with all of your arguments when making these statements without putting all the marbles on the table.

Great, so you're saying a PS5 Pro is/will be equivalent to a 7700XT with this post?

We'll have to wait and see, but I'll just drop something from my OP to remind you of a significant difference between that and what we know about PS5 Pro's hardware

I'd say that comparison you used to assume equivalent PS5 Pro capability is flawed at best.

Who's outraged? I'm making fun of the thing because people are being nickle and dimed by Sony, but fanboys are still defending the price lol

It's not worth getting the pro if you have the base PS5 because of the hassle. Maybe the ps5 digital at most, but jesus, are PSN prices so bad compared to other storefronts.

Nearest PC alternative will probably be an RX 8600 or whatever when it releases. That GPU will probably beat a PS5 Pro and it will be a low end GPU. Since we are in between AMD architectures, there is no direct comparison as current AMD GPUs lack AI functionality. Regardless, PS5 Pro is not impressive and doesn't provide a good bang for your buck like the PS4 Pro did. PS4 Pro was $399 and had over twice the raw GPU performance over the PS4. It also came out only 3 years after the base console. PS5 Pro is coming out 4 years after, has less of a performance bump, and is priced significantly higher at $699 and doesn't even come with a disc drive. FAIL

I have a 2 year old 4090 and it shits all over the PS5 Pro.

The point isn't how powerful the Pro is. It's whether you'd spend £700 to £800 on a closed gaming system.

I'd spend £900 on a PC less powerful than the Pro and it would STILL make more sense, because I can use it however I like. That makes the PC a worthy buy. Buying a gaming only device for £700 is a waste of money, and it doesn't include the disc drive, a stand, any game, the PSN service costs... So using a PC as a price comparison is not apples to apples. The level of freedom you get using a PC adds a ton more value to the price.

Imagine paying that much for this hardware and being told and legally bound to only use it within certain parameters.

And it's not even the standard, the PS5 will still be the standard to which games are built and designed for.

There is so much wrong in your post.

How can you be a PC guy and miss everything this console is supposedly going to be doing?

1. PS4 Pro was a complete rip off and didn't provide any substantial improvement over base PS4. You mostly ONLY got a slight resolution increase.....AT THE SAME FRAME RATE as base PS4! Your first point is complete nonsense.

2. PS4 Pro's raw GPU performance meant F*** all in practice! So, you got a resolution increase, while STILL PLAYING EVERYTHING @30FPS on Pro!

Meanwhile, PS5 Pro is promising a resolution bump from 1440p to 4k...WITH a 100% increase in frames from 30fps to 60fps with that increase resolution and possible added graphical features. You're insane or delusional.

3. How is PS5 Pro LESS of a performance bump when I've already pointed out how stupid your attempted PS4 Pro performance promotion over PS5 Pro was?

  • To recap: PS4 Pro offered a slight resolution bump from 1080p to 1260p - 1620p at the SAME frame-rate as PS4, which was mostly 30fps.
  • PS5 Pro is suggested to offer a huge resolution bump from 1440p to 4k at DOUBLE the frame-rate of base PS5 at it's highest setting + added graphical features on top.

Literally the only point you got right was the lack of disc drive which is a joke argument coming from a PC advocate who is by default all digital.

But no, you mind reading needs work. This thread is to address the reaction head on to have a discussion about the validity of comments based on what they THINK PS5 Pro will be and their own current hardware.

You're not a critical thinker so you're excused for not having anything of substance to add here.

If you were a critical thinker we wouldn't behaving this discourse.🤭

We're not, smh. You aren't very bright.

A PC advocate arguing about a lack of disk dive seems legit eh!?

I digress.

Money is money but value is relative. You're conflating those 2 things to give your opinion.

Personal preferences are cool, however we are discussing price vs performance on equivalent hardware. Additional services aren't required to play games on PS5 Pro.

Also, you're legally bound to only use games in general within certain parameters. In the context of playing games, that was an empty point to try bringing up.

Nearest PC alternative will probably be an RX 8600 or whatever when it releases. Since we are in between AMD architectures, there is no direct comparison as current AMD GPUs lack AI functionality.

1. Regardless, It is not impressive and doesn't provide a good bang for your buck like the PS4 Pro did.

2. PS4 Pro was $399 and had over twice the raw GPU performance over the PS4.

3. PS5 Pro is coming out 4 years after, has less of a performance bump, and is priced significantly higher at $699

and doesn't even come with a disc drive. FAIL

I have a 2 year old 4090 and it shits all over the PS5 Pro.

Nothing I said is wrong, but you are full of shit with your claims. PS4 Pro enhancements depended on the game. Some were fidelity updates, resolution, frame rate, etc... Not every game was bottle-necked by the Jaguar CPU.

https://www.gamesradar.com/ps4-pro-confirmed-games-list/

Each PS5 Pro enhanced game will be case by case as well. PS5 Pro is not guaranteeing every game will be 4K/60. Sony is saying that you will have less compromises and it will try to merge fidelity mode and performance mode. They are also trying to improve RT capabilities, but it will be bottle-necked in some scenarios due to lack of a CPU upgrade. Also, when using things like PSSR, it is not a true resolution or performance bump. These are crutches just like DLSS on PC. Sure, they can provide good results, but it is not representative of the hardware's raw power. Your claims are ridiculous.

Stop shilling and bullshitting people. You are not going from 1440p to 4K while also doubling the frame rate at the same time. Cerny mentioned a 45% performance uplift. A bigger performance uplift can be expected in RT scenarios and the rest is just image quality improvements over FSR. PS5 PRO is not impressive, especially since it has been 4 years. It is overpriced and gamers are rightfully calling out Sony for it.

The problem is it’s unproven hardware(they haven’t marketed it that well so far) being priced at an insane cost in some countries outside of the US.

People aren't interested in buying a $700 bottleneck, who would've thought?

@above_average: But the point is its not a good comparison, but the only one you have.

Legally bound as in you can not modify the hardware or software to install anything in order to use the cpu for example that you paid for, how you like.

That makes the 6 core cpu I just bought, more valuable to me. Might not have 8 cores, but I can use it how I like.

So it's not price to performance, its value to performance. Whether or not value is subjective.

with the amount of use my ps5 gets, its not worth throwing nearly 1k € for pro

I have 5800x3d + rtx4090 which is my main gaming platform, ps5 and switch are just for exclusives

and I too dislike that lack of disc drive, I buy most ps5 games on physical cause they are at minimum 10€ cheaper at launch than on psn, often more

Honestly i have been a hermit most of my

Life, but I have bought and been (relatively) happy about owning a ps2-5. But yeah the ONLY selling points consoles have had compared to the pc is price and exclusive titles! And in the middle of the worst gaming drought in Sonys history, they decided to announce a new console which only help improve performance in a handful of games and cost 1000$ or something! So no I won’t be getting this POS and doubt many will!

@above_average: Sad attempt at damage control. You are paying another (since you already have a PS5) $800 (yes, it is $800 with a disk drive) to potentially having steady 60fps.

It's a weak upgrade for which you are getting milked.

At the end of this gen, you will have sunk $1300 into your almighty overlords at Sony, while still paying $70 a game and paying for online. You cows are the ultimate suckers.

At least with Xbox, we get game pass.
