from the latest issue.....

anyway...a lot of people seem to think its Diablo 3 based off these facts.

- PC Gamer was probably among the Gaming press Magazines who visited Blizzard Entertainment early on May, a few weeks ago.

- If you remember, PC Gamer knew about the Starcraft II announcement last May 2007. Blizzard Entertainment made the announcement at the Blizzard Worldwide Invitationals (WWI) at Seoul, South Korea.

- PC Gamer can't talk about it for the next 30 days ... the 2008 Blizzard Worldwide Invitationals at Paris, France takes place on June 28-29.

- June 29 is the date Diablo II shipped on USA (2000) and the same date the expansion Lord of Destruction shipped on Europe a year later (2001).

- Notice how PC Gamer replaces a swearing with [CENSORED]? Could this be a clue as to what the game they refer to is? Because CENSORED really sounds like HELL ... as in ... Diablo?

If that turns out to be the case, a new gaming PC just may be mine in the near future though I'm still counting on Too Human to deliver a similar experience though S.K. did disappoint me with the recent announcement of leaving the 4 player out. :?

I saw that when I got my issue last week... And yes, it is most likely Diablo 3(not saying it is... just most likely...).

considering the entire magazine crew has admitted to being the biggest Diablo fans of all time... And the fact that when they got the Starcraft 2 cover they told Blizzard that when the Diablo announcement came that they HAD to come to PC Gamer for the cover. They even begged them for Diablo 3 stuff then.

So... it seems like if it is coming, this will be where it gets announced.

It's certainly an interesting theory and my hat is off to you if you're right, but I don't see why Blizzard wound announce a game as big as Diablo 3 with Starcraft 2 coming out in the near future.

My guess is they've got the scoop on one of Bioware's untitled projects. Bioware is based in an obvious location (Edmonton isn't exactly a hot-bed for game developers) so that would explain why they censored the location, and they have 3-4 untitled games in development, including their much-hyped MMO.

I didnt believe that Diablo 3 could possibly be announced either...but almost everything seems to be leading up to it.

you could be right about the "cencored" part, it doesnt neccesarily imply Blizzard.

But Canada isnt exacly very far away...and their are a considerable amount of canadian developers.

It could be Battlefield 3 though...if they mentioned Sweden, it would have bassiclly given it away right away.

Irvine is obvious also.

And Blizzard has several teams right now. and the time seems right because Starcraft 2 is probably 6 months or less from release. Just because Blizzard has been a small, quiet developer before now doesn't mean that the now enormous behemoth that they are now wants to stay quiet about games that are in development.

I totally doubt it. Just like people saying StarCraft II will be GOTY this year. It isn't going to happen. I'll bump this thread up one day for future ownage.

But hey, if I'm wrong... Then damn. =P

But Bioware is the only big-time PC developer in Canada (the only other one I can think of is Relic, and they wouldn't have the Earth-shattering announcement PC gamer is promising), and judging by the amount of hype they're giving this announcement you have to figure it's coming from either Blizzard, Bioware or Valve (the only PC-centric developers that have enough clout for this type of hype IMO). Even then, Starcraft 2 info wouldn't be too big a deal barring something major like the inclusion of a 4th race, and Valve is most likely working on HL2: Ep 3; a big deal, but nothing we don't know about. Add in the fact that A) we know Bioware's MMO has been playable for a while, B) EA specifically listed it as a reason for aquiring Bioware/Pandemic and C) Bioware has been pretty quiet for a while now, especially on the PC front (lets face it, Mass Effect PC isn't that big a deal) and I think Bioware is the best bet.

Irvine is obvious also.

But from a marketing point of view it doesn't make sense. Blizzard wants to get people talking about and hyping up Starcraft 2, not a game like Diablo 3 that wouldn't be released until 2009 (at the earliest).

With that in mind, maybe Starcraft: Ghost is coming back from the dead.

I cant see Bioware announcing a MMO when EA has their own big MMO coming this year.

those 3 developers are the biggest...but their are plenty of other games that could warrent such hype...Battlefield 3 for example.

Blizzard is a huge developer now, with a staff of over 2700 (granted they do everything internally including CGI, marketing, and trailers) but still they are a very large developer...and having 3 games in development at the same time is not exacly far out.

They did announce a year ago that they were already working on a third game....and that could easily be Diablo 3.

2. Since when has Blizzard played by the rules in anything, specifically in how to market their games? Heck, by your logic they wouldn't have announced Starcraft 2 because Lich King was announced and they would obviously want to keep all eyes on their big game.

Blizzard is a developer with enough balls to have 3 games announced at once, all of them being 8 million+ sellers.... Blizzard is above "marketing point of view."

Blizzard was quoted saying that they have 4 games in development.

Starcraft 2, Lich King, Unnannounced game and then their next MMO.

Relic's working on DoW 2 right now, so as awesome as HW3 would be, its probably not that.

I know but it was said that Relic couldn't have anything big up their sleeve... Which is quite obviously wrong considering THQ acquired the Homeworld IP several months ago.

1. It would certainly be a big announcement, but Relic is already working on Dawn of War 2 and if Dawn of War 1 is any indication, they probably have another Company of Heroes expansion in the pipeline. So I doubt they would have enough content on Homeworld 3 (assuming it is in development) to warrant a cover article.

2. Actually Blizzard has made it to where they are exactly because they play by the rules, specifically when it comes to marketing. Just look at this thread for example, people are buzzing about Diablo 3 because of an unknown announcement from an unknown developer. Or you can look at the World of Warcraft commercials (which are designed to bring in "casual" gamers by focuing on the celebrities), or the WoW episode of South Park, or their April Fool's pranks. Blizzard isa a master of marketing, which is why announcing Diablo 3 doesn't make sense.

The difference between announcing Starcraft 2 with The Lich King on the way and announcing Diablo 3 with Starcraft 2 on the way is The Lich King is a major component of keeping WoW up and running. The longer they take to release The Lich King, the greater the chance players will stop playing and move onto something new like Conan. On the other hand there is no reason to advertise/market Diablo 3 considering how far away the probable release date is. They could release Starcraft 2, wait for the hype surrounding it to die down and then announce Diablo 3 in early-mid 2009 with a late 2009/early 2010 release date and be just as well off.

true... but would you honestly put it past Blizzard to just try to keep the hype train rolling and sell tickets to the Worldwide Invitational and then Blizzcon(where they may or may not have Diablo 3 playable if they announce it now).

If there is ANY company that could be benefitted from having a 3 game hype train rolling, it is Blizzard. Because to be quite honest, Blizzard has the ability to pull it off. Blizzard was WAY too obvious with the whole buying up of 20 different diablo3.com domains for them not to have something coming soon.

I realize what a Diablo sequel would mean, I'm not stupid. the fact is, you cant expect something to be GOTY just because Blizzard touched it. Not to mention, you dont even know what kind of competition it will be facing. And one more thing, didnt most of the Diablo 2 team leave Blizzard for Flagship? You know, the guys who did Hellgate London.....we all know how that turned out. Diablo may be a huge source of nostalgia, but I dont think it has what it takes to compete in today's market.

the team wasn't what made Diablo so great... It was the level of commitment to quality that Blizzard had.

Hellgate would have been much better with an extra 6 months to cook and some more diverse looking environments.

The things that made Diablo what it is still resonated well in Hellgate. That was the loot collecting and leveling. That is just standard MMO protocol. Diablo DOES have what it takes. It just needs the right amount of time and a good team. and Blizzard has proven that they have talent, time and design to make great games.

I will say that if it ends up being Duke Nukem Forever then we can go ahead and start preparing for the apocalypse.MadExponent

If it's Diablo 3 or the new Blizz MMO I will cry with joy.

My one doubt though, is I remember PC Gamer a few months before the newest Duke Nukem Forever trailer dropped. They said that they had seen actual gameplay and stuff, and they'd go into tons of detail in their next issue. Never happened.

[QUOTE="cobrax75"]nope, not Diablo 3. http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/52817

I was going to say.. PCG had already disproved it being Diablo 3 before this thread was posted. :( It's definitely not Blizzard, whatever it is. Diablo 3 is in development though, as noted. It's just a matter of when they're going to officially announce it.

I realize what a Diablo sequel would mean, I'm not stupid. the fact is, you cant expect something to be GOTY just because Blizzard touched it. DDX2

Nope, but you can be reasonably certain they'll be a strong contender.

Blizzard are tying with Nintendo for the most amount of GameSpot GOTY awards to a single company.

Obviously they know what their doing, obviously GameSpot loves their work.

DDX2

Again, Blizzard have shown themselves consistently able to enter a genre (think Starcraft, WoW, Diablo) and blow all competition out of the water. They did it in 96, 97 and 2004. Why your suddenly saying we shouldn't expect them to do it again now is hard for me to understand.

PC gaming is dead. Only reason games like the Sims were popular was because everyone already owned a computer for other things.

I suppose the fact it makes more money globally than any single platform is its death rattle?

Blizzard is also rumored to be developing a next-gen MMO.

Let's put two and two together.

Diablo MMO, anyone?

That was already debunked by PC Gamer themselves.

If it isn't Diablo 3, I'll forgive PC Gamer for the tease if it's Homeworld 3, System Shock 3, or Freespace 3.

We need a legendary threequel to a legendary series.

Total Annihilation 2? Maybe Relic is starting early on a CoH sequal?

....MDK3?
