We are on the cusp of seeing PC gaming potentially supplant console gaming with two new recent developments: Valve's Steambox (which is unannounced, and may come with some nifty new control scheme) and Nvidia's Project Shield, which promises the ability to stream games from your gaming rig straight to either a television or a small handheld.

We don't know much about the Steambox yet, but if it offers a new control scheme that offers the precision of the mouse and keyboard with the portability of the controller, I will be very impressed. As for Nvidia's Project Shield, the idea of playing PC games while elsewhere in the house is very nice.

2013 could be the year of hardware moreso than anything else. I dunno about you guys, but I am saving up money for a new Haswell setup + a new Nvidia GPU. If Valve's new hardware offering underwhelms, I'll likely go for Nvidia's offering, and visa versa.

Really excited to see hardware at the forefront of everything again. Years ago, they declared PC gaming dead, but now, it's console gaming running for the hills.

Neither TBH

If I HAD to pick one I'd go with the steambox. Project shield seems incredibly pointless

Neither. Project Shield is a gimmick and I have no use for a Steambox, might as well buy a console.

No intersest in either, but if I were being given one, Steambox would get my pick.

Neighter tbh

I would have zero use for the steambox as I prefer to build my own hardware as for Nvidia's Project Shield it doesn't appeal much to me, my Nexus 7 is good enough for some light gaming on the go and very portable. Project Shield looks to be really bulky

Project Shield, even though it's more of an Android thing then related to PC gaming. I don't understand Steambox and expect it'll fail, i'm really not sure what market it's exactly made for and it sounds like a bad idea.

Steambox sounds a lot like a console...

I already have one of those and won't be buying a steam platform as it will be nowhere near as good as my PC.

Steambox seems like a console to play PC games.

To play console ports that are available on PC.

I don't think that these 2 things have anything to do with pc gamers.

Lots of things to be exited about. Lots of new gaming hardware coming out or pretty recent:

smartphones
tablets
3DS
Vita
OUYA
WiiU
XBox 720
PS4
Steambox
Nvidia Project Shield
That Razer tablet or whatever its called

And thats beside the more traditional systems like PC, PS3, 360, Wii, ... I wouldn't say there are more systems than ever. But there are certainly more gamers than ever and (more ways of gaming than ever and) it's good companies innovate to go after different kinds of gamers. :)

Has Well. Haha, no idea what that is but I might buy it.
In a couple years that is. And if my government doesn't decide to make me bankrupt for several years like they are threatening.
If I buy a new PC, I wannit to be 100% solid state.

This...

Have no interest in this Project Shield whatsoever, as for Steambox, it'll just be a heavily streamlined PC, so what's the point, when I already own the "real" thing. A console would be much more preferable, due to being able to play exclusives not availible on the PC...

This for me as well. Just last night I wanted to be able to hang out with my dad (Doesn't play games at all) and he wanted to watch TV, would've been nice to access my steam library from downstairs.

I'm interested in the Gabecube as well.

I've got absolutely no use for either tbh. I've maintained a high level PC for over 20 years and don't have much use for a mobile system, my phone is enough for that.

The Steambox may turn out to be a good way for non PC gamers to get a hold of the enormous steam library, which is a good thing for everybody. On the other hand it may fail harder than the 3DO.

Got no idea at all who the Nvidia Shield is targeted at :?

AMD's 8xxx series.
If I had to pick, the only handheld I own is a GB Color and I already have a PC + Steam.
Neither. I've never needed a handheld as I drive a car and my phone does for every other spare 5 mins I might want to game for. I have a better PC than the Steambox could hope to be and now I know it's running on Linux and will need specific ports...I smell fail.

Neither.

The steambox seems "ok" as a concept, but I have a capable PC, so it is out, Nvivias Project Shield just seems pointless.
