PC Gamers, would the inclusion of dedicated servers change your mind about MW3?

I haven't played a Call of Duty game since buying the first Modern Warfare four years ago.

I skipped World at War, and as news of dedicated servers getting the axe in MW2 spread across the Internet like wildfire, I joined the MW2 boycott - and never bought the game. I skipped Black Ops because the setting didn't fascinate me so much, even though it had dedicated servers.

But, it appears that Activision is willing to make amends with PC gamers. IW's community chief has hinted at dedicated servers for MW3. After all, criticism and collective dislike of Call of Duty from the gaming community only started when a small section of that community - PC gamers - began boycotting the game over a missing detail that console gamers would never lose sleep over.

If MW3 gets dedicated servers, I will gladly buy it. I don't know why dedicated servers got the axe in the first place - but I believe that West and Zampanella were angry over pirates being able to play on cracked servers. Nonetheless, it appears that their move to axe dedicated servers ultimately backfired - not only are pirates are still able to play online using a network that runs parallel to IWNet, but the move also generated so much ill will from the gaming community that perhaps only sympathetic individuals like me will understand why they did what they did.

Will you be willing to forgive if dedicated servers are back in MW3? Or is Call of Duty so 2007 that MW3 will likely be a waste of time?

Most will say no because of BF3 this year, but it won't really change my mind. I rather see some notable changes to the formula.

It would be a step in the right direction. Now bring mods back and lower the price back to $50 and I'll consider buying it.

Who says that change is needed? Why is change needed when it's not even necessary? Some purists like me would rather it remain the run-and-gun shooter it always has been. If I want something different, I would play Battlefield or ARMA.

Well you skipped out on MW2/BO so the game isn't that stale for you, but I bought all of those so I'm kinda worn out on it.

Agree with the latter, but remember! BC2 didn't come with mods either.

For me, mods are not so much of a deal breaker - after all, most multiplayer mod communities rarely have enough players to go around. But they are a nice bonus.

Only if the multiplayer is at least as good as MW's was.

Maybe....I need a twitch-like shooter and Call of Duty is sort of fun IMO. If they have third person deathmatch and more third person game modes, then that will make it better.

I'm thinking of getting it for spec ops mode. If it has 4 split screens for local mp then I am sold. I don't see anything new with the series so I'll purchase it used.

edit: as for the PC version, I'll be too busy playing bf3.

Nah, wore myself out playing CoD UO, I could scarcely play MW1 without growing bored fast. The game's like Fifa or a DBZ game, you play one game you've played them all, de ja vu.

I've played all of them, I remember playing the CoD2 demo when 360 had just come out and being totally blown away, and after so much of the same the gameplay just sickens me outright literally nothing has changed between then and now except some texture and models.

The only way that I'll buy MW3 is if they remove the customizable killstreaks, balance perks/guns, make the maps not ****, add some game modes for people who like to play with tactics/strategy, improve the experience system, abolish Blops' crappy currency system, add more attachments, and add some variety to the game. But, there's no way in hell that'll happen.

64 players, dedi files, and mod tools on Day 1. Also I'd like the gameplay and maps to be balanced for 64 players again.(Cod1, UO, Cod2).

**EDIT**

They need to get rid of perks and kill streaks too. But keep the ranking system, weapon upgrades, and attachments. Oh, and the flash bangs need to go. Its one of the most unfair and aggravating things in the game other then perks and kill streaks. And they need to tone down the splash damage from explosives and grenedes. Like CoD:WaW PC.

At this point, i think only a zombie game mode can save MW3.

Since a lot of PC players are in this thread I might as well ask...

I am gonna buy a new computer, typically for hotmail, youtube and gamespot. But I want to make game videos for youtube and was wondering what the difference between a dedicated video card/graphics card and a integrated video/graphics is? and would it affect me making youtube gameplay videos or not?

lol Didn't want to make a new thread asking so I figured just leaving it here would be better.

Integrated is not that good for gaming, I believe it uses your system memory as graphics memory or something like that (maybe wrong, I just know it's not as good).

Recording video with something like Fraps can lower your framerate which is not good when playing, however if the theatre mode is back then you can just turn on theatre mode and record so it does not affect your framerate as you actually play.

nope, the CoD offer great but short singleplayer experiences, and the multiplayer has been stagnant for a while. So many good shooters to play online, andI just cannot enjoy CoD's multiplayer

Definitely not, there's not much they can do to convince me to buy this game.

I'm not planning to buy the game, however that's not out of a grudge towards Infinity Ward. I got CoD:MW, WaW and MW2 and I've lost interest in the games. I thought MW was really good, WaW so-so and MW2 dull and generic. I know millions of others feel different and good for them, I hope MW3 will blow their socks off, I'll pass though.

No. I don't care about the game at all, and dedicated servers have nothing to do with it.

The inclusion of dedicated servers doesn't matter to me, as I would only buy it if they made some real changes to the formula of the game. It's felt like the same game for the past 4 games, and this is looking to be the same. I would love to see them really mixing the formula up and attempting to take a risk. Then I would probably buy it.. Maybe space combat like shattered horizon - That would be interesting to see.

I put a lot of hours into the original mw and all of its mods. This seems to be more of the same for 60+ dollars. The plus is for the dlc that you need to get.

i dont care about perks or killstreaks, as long as they are balanced. chances of that happening are slim.
