The amount of deception bul***ing and pure brainwashing that is going in the retail stores is pathetic...

Combine that with the fact that they sell games for £35 while one can buy the same game at teh same time online (INCLUDING SHIPPING) for £25 its no wonder why the PC games retail section is shrinking and the NDP retail numbers are going down...

I just hope that the NDP numbers hit 0 sooner...

True Gamer? wow...no. What rubbish is going into selling games? I'd rather drive out to the store, by my game there make it easy, have the disk and everything so I can move it to another computer with relativ ease or let my friend borrow the game. Or you know I could order it online, put my information on the internet, have I chance of someone getting information(even though it's not likely, still a chance) and make it harder to move the game to another computer. If you're to lazy to just drive to the store and buy a game, then it really shows what American Culture has done to people. (if you are american, if European, thaaann...haha idk)

Doesn't PC gaming need retailers in order to be popular or at least attract the casual crowd?

Anyway, how large is online distribution sales compared to the sales numbers we get from retailers?

Online download does work and saves the manufacturing costs.  As the times goes ahead, the future will be online downloads because everyone should be all high-speed.

Blizzard, at first, didn't want their expansion to be downloadable, but the demand was there and they did it.  Reap the rewards.

I feel the same way. Although I have downloaded a lot of games using steam I prefer going into the store and getting the game.

Oh where did I say ANYTHING about downloads?

Nowhere? Oh how sad...better luck next time...

And BTW when I see the collectable edition of a game at £30 online and at £45 in store how on earth would you expect me to even step in the store?

Also if I have my special online shopping DEBIT card with a limited amount of cash in it I can bet you that people wont get more than £50 out of me...

Allright, fair enough, I misunderstood that, but your whole "I hope to see zero sales at retail" is still a ridiculous comment to make. I mean, let other's pay a bit more, how does it hurt you? I can guarantee you that zero PC sales at the stores would most definitely hurt you in the long run. To me, a part of the collecting is going to the store and browsing the shop. I enjoy the whole process. And for you to say that I'm being brainwashed to go there somehow is just idiotic. Stop insulting my intelligence.

make PC Gaming Cheaper!R-Dot-Yung

PC games are cheaper. And if you are a smart consumer, PC Hardware purchases can be affordable. It just takes a little more effort from the buyer than to buy a prebuilt or a console.

excuse me but im doing exactly the same thing by visiting stores and laughing how the salesmen are fooling the casuals...browising in the games and the cases...I just refuse to be ripped off by paying up to £15 more per game...

Thats why PC gaming IMO isnt that expensive...the games are dirt cheap online...its laughable to see casuals pay £45-£50 per game that I buy for £25 and still being convinced that they saved more money buying the £300 console...

Yes, and thats great that you've found a way to save some money. But the purpose of this thread is still questionable. I still fail to see why you don't want PC games to sell well at retailers. You do know that if that option goes away and the only place to get your PC games will be online, the prices will go up accordingly?

I can assure you that the free market will stablise itself...If a site raises the prices another will keep them low to sell more...

Do you think that retail poses ANY competition to online? With 40% price difference? How a PC gamer can afford to pay £35 per game?

Plus the online sites have very limited expenses no salesmen, no rent, no bills to keep a store running...And excuse me for the pun but I seriously dont give a rat's a**s about retail chains...I only care about my own pocket as a customer and thats how capitalism works...

I can imagine Blizzard didn't want to make TBC downloadable at its launch since it would of taken up ALOT of bandwidth.

You think Blizzard actually minds that?  Bnet's been free forever.  Expenditure's are not an issue with Blizzard anymore.

Your trying to twist something bad into something good? You dont like your games selling retail?...T.T Allow me to educate,if PC games dont sell well retail wise, then devs dont make as much money, meaning they will bring their games to consoles...or could just quit in the PC market all together since its FULL of pirating "gamers" and there only waisting time and money...which means you wont get your beloved games such as M2TW,Crysis,C&C3 and whatever else, unless you buy a console...and from the posts ive seen you hate consoles. What a dumb thread.

EDIT:BTW,devs dont make money from sales on eBay...in case you were wondering.

Yup. This is mostly due to WoW and the Sims. Of course these games have been selling well for the past 3-4yrs. C&C3 seems to be doing well too now. There aren't a whole lot of must have titles out there right now. Profits are pretty low in the PC gaming market.

retail isn't really dying, it's either slowly growing or stagnating. The source of pcgaming growth in the next 6-8 years will be online, but the retail is here to stay

If your game gets on Ebay and people dont keep it it shows that youve done something wrong...

So youre saying that Valve didnt make more money from Steam than from any other bloodsucking retail?

Online distribution is the cure to piracy...why would you risk to be caught downloading a game is it only costs £17-£25? You would if you were forced to buy it in store at £35-£45...

And as a small reality check: There are few or NO "developers"...why do you call the PUBLISHERS "developers" is really beyond me...

PS And as far as I know the preowned market for console games is much bigger than PC games... A PC game thats preowned is virtually useless online and with more and more PC games focusing on online I can see any preowned market that it has dying out as well..

Well, you can get everything cheaper online. They cut out the middle man and are slowly killing the entire retail industry in general, this is in no way a good thing.

Development costs for PC games are lower than Dev costs on consoles. FYI, games like EVE Online were made be extremely small teams. Hell, Im pretty sure Galactic Civilization II was made by no more than 10 people. To be honest, PC is the last vestige of truely independent gaming.

Why I don't what retail for PC game to die..it is much smarter and cheaper to buy games online...for both PC and Consoles..I saved money on gas, tax and not getting charged like $10 more by buying my games online..
