I'm definitely someone who is generally 'well off'. It doesn't kill me to upgrade my PC every two years, because it's something that up until now I really enjoy. It's the same reason I have a car on lease, because it allows me to get a new car every 3 years. The joy from it is wonderful!

However, at the same time, I do not believe in wasting money. As such, I am finally finding that PC gaming is something in which I am getting less of a return from, then previous years.

How many exclusive games a year are being released for it? How many multiplatform games that significantly take advantage of the better graphics cards?

Unfortunately, that number feels like it is dwindling.

Of course, this probably means I may move to upgrading every 3 years or 4 years. However, even then, it seems that I am now better of just getting the 'last gen' graphic cards, instead of getting the latest and greatest. Quite frankly, because the extra tech isn't being utilized albeit a few titles.

I think you're making the right choice on cutting back. There aren't any games coming out for PC worth upgrading for in the next year or so. It's seems like it's dried up a bit. I sold my video cards and will be getting a ps3 slim now, so I'm cutting back on PC as well.

I have always upgraded once every three years for the most part. I buy the parts and do it myself so the price is cheaper. I've never had an issue money wise and it rarely is much at all.

Ironically enough, PC still has more exclusives than any other platform.

Why would you need to upgrade every 2 years in this climate O_o?

Look at my PC, it still gets the job done.

I was suprised that Video cards are dirt cheap nowadays, i JUST upgraded from my X1950 Pro, to a XFX 4850 1GB. and it didn't cost me that much, i look foward to playing alot of games i didn't have the chance playing before at full detail.

It's the impact of cross platform development becoming the standard for the majority of games, system requirements aren't budging for most games while hardware is still advancing.

It was inevitable that sooner or later GPU's that can max pretty much everything at 1920x1200 would become incredibly affordable, GPU companies cannot be happy though.

What are you smoking? Maybe there aren't any games YOU are interested in, but in terms of AAA and AA Exclusive games this year the PC is once again continuing to completely obliterate both the 360 and PS3 combined thus far just like every other year this gen.

The fact that new games on PC are at least $10 cheaper then the consoles, and perform so much better is enough for me to justify my PC upgrades. I have GTX 280 right now and love it. Much better investment then my 360, or PS3. The consoles are strictly for exclusives, MGS, Halo, Gears 2, Infamous.

Any multiplat is PC. No doubt in my mind.

PC>>>>>>>>>>>>>Consoles.

Name some good exclusives besides Total War, because I can't think of any worth buying.

Sure. However, none of which take full advantage of the latest hardware. As such, upgrading as often as I used to is becoming less or a big deal. Whether or not thats a good thing is up to one's perspective. For me, every two years would result in a noticeable improvement in gaming experience. This time around, it's hardly the case.

I agree with you 100% . I left console gaming thinking the grass is much greener for the pc . But i found that the advantages of the pc are just not nearly as big as they once were. Upgrading is cool but unles you are into it as a hobby ,it can be a bit of a pain and a expensive one at that .

Pretty much, every 2 or 3 years, the main reasons for upgrading though were birthday money and significant advances in distributed computing like Folding@Home on the GPU.

If you like to lease cars, that's already a pretty big statement on your position on 'value' for your money. Just upgrade when you NEED to, not when something newer exists. It's not that hard.

Leasing isn't necessarily more expensive then buying. Unless you are buying, and planning on keeping the car for 10 years. If that is what you are suggesting.

That said, your statement infers that you missed my point entirely.

I state this a third time. In past years, upgrading every two years gave you a noticable return. That is not the case anymore. This thread is not asking you to give me financial guidance lol.

That's exactly why I quit PC gaming. PC isn't what it used to be, worthwhile exclusives are just getting rarer and rarer and it's to the point where the price isn't justified anymore. I'm all about the games. I don't care about better graphics or mods. Consoles are providing better exclusives nowadays so that's where I am.

Provide better exclusive is all based on opinion... Exclusive are just rarer on each console... if you haven't notice.

No it means that games aren't pushing the technological envelope anymore. The hardware is there, but nobody is pushing the limits on PC like they used to. Doom 4 in 2012 maybe?

I read it perfectly fine when I entered the thread, and I read it perfectly fine again. Your "argument" is based on the idea that there are few worthwhile games to upgrade for, which is completely false. :|

Besides, how is spending LESS a BAD THING again? I'm not sure what the point of this thread is, if it's even trying to make one, but generally speaking, people would say that upgrading once per four years is a much better financial investment than putting a similar amount of money into your system every two years. The only implication that can really be constituted as "negative" in the OP is the suggestion that the PC is lacking in exclusives lately, which it isn't by any reasonable standard.

I upgrade every 4 years, the beauty of PC gaming right now is that way things are going I won't have to this cycle. Everything I've thrown at my PC (save crysis and Arma 2) has run flawlessly so far.

Then you can't read dude, no offense. The point is, for the fourth time: upgrading your PC often has become less fruitful over the past few years. Not too long ago, if you upgraded every two years, you would see a noticeable improvement in graphical fidelity and quality. This is not the case anymore. A lot less developers are taking advantage of newer hardware, and attempting to push the envelope. It sounds like you are just being paranoid that I may be bashing PC gaming, since this is System Wars. Along with many others in this thread.

Oh, how many? More than all three consoles combined, if you had bothered to take a scan. 10 AAE and 1 AAAe for the PC, unmatched by ANY other system.

It doesn't LOOK like a lot, but that's due to the very massive overall size of the PC library. No matter how you try to cut it, it's still the statistical absolute best in terms of games for its year, which has been the case for virtually forever.

Stop thinking your opinion matters in such things when many people would buy those.

Along with many others in this thread.SquatsAreAwesom

With the exception of Crysis, 2009 PC games in general beat the ever-begging hell out of their 2007 counterparts, and the exact same can be said for 2008 PC games vs 2006 PC games. Empire: Total War and ARMA 2 blow anything pre-2009 non-Crysis out the water. Even when talking about the stuff that developers other than Crytek put out, there IS a noticeable graphical progression... just not in little "spurts". There's plenty of high-fidelity PC games on the modern market that would make use of your GTX XXXXX or whatever, and it's not even that difficult to look for them.

Take STALKER and the Witcher as the PC year of 2007's "graphics princes". They cannot at all compare to the two 2009 games I mentioned. Even when talking about Crysis and the supposed "you upgrade for that game and you don't need to upgrade anymore".... was there ever a 2007 PC build that could pull off a maximum on that? Just because Crysis was literally 2 years ahead of its time doesn't mean that 2 years afterwards, PC games have stagnated. Remember, there's no hardware even NOW that can easily solo Crysis/Warhead on maximum without either: being below 60FPS or: costing you your house, your family and some of your body parts to pay for. Not that you need to go to max, as Crysis highed out is still the dominant graphics king, but you get the point.

And if you're not bashing PC gaming, what ARE you bashing? And if you are, then why would you be pointing this on the PC? It's generally noted that the consoles are the reason why graphics progression is supposedly "slow".

[QUOTE="TheDuffman26"] Re-read what I wrote. kthxTheDuffman26

Judgeing from game exclusives the list from AA-AAA their ar.

PC-10

360-0

PS3-2

Wii-8

It is VERY sad you people are trying to call PC gaming stale when it is still leading.

[QUOTE="dontshackzmii"]I agree with you 100% . I left console gaming thinking the grass is much greener for the pc . But i found that the advantages of the pc are just not nearly as big as they once were. Upgrading is cool but unles you are into it as a hobby ,it can be a bit of a pain and a expensive one at that .TheDuffman26

The TC just said he was upgrading less... which makes things less expensive or a pain... unless I missed something.

No it means that games aren't pushing the technological envelope anymore. The hardware is there, but nobody is pushing the limits on PC like they used to. Doom 4 in 2012 maybe?

Hence costing you less since you upgrade less...

Thanks for your worthless opinion. it does not change the fact that PC gaming still has the most games on that list.

Exactly. I don't understand why what I am saying is so hard to comprehend. :P

Maybe if it made sense... next gen console won't happen every 4-5 years like it used to... Sony planed a 10 year life spand for it's PS3.

Oh, so this is your argument?

I just posted a list of PROFESSIONALLY REVIEWED games, ALL WITH THE SCORE RANKED "GREAT" and ABOVE.

Then you reply like "I don't like it so they don't count".

Well, for god's sake, learn how things work around the forum. Nobody within their right mind would give dog crap what you "think" of the games, especially when you're talking about an OBJECTIVE MATTER LIKE THE SIZE OF THE LIBRARY. In matters like that, PERSONAL OPINION HAS A PRIORITY OF PRECISELY ZERO.

Hell, if we go by the kind of debating tactic you just used, then my point (PC exclusives > console exclusives for this year again) can be validated anyway. I wouldn't buy ANY console exclusives for 2009 because they're all meh, so the PC's 2 8.0+ exclusives > the console's 0 worthwhile exclusives.

Of course, that's not how SW posters are supposed to argue, lest they want to be rightfully laughed at.

I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything. I didn't think this was a debate. None of those games are appealing to me, and I don't see any games in the near future that make me want to keep gaming on the PC. I don't buy into all the professional hype and reviews, I could care less. I play games that are interesting to ME and me only. So I've switched over to ps3. Try not to let my opinion ruin your day.

Yes, it was TOTALLY your opinion with statements like:

How many 2009 games are on that list? Not very many.... It's been stale for awhile on the PC. Nothing coming out in the fall either.TheDuffman26

oh and:

I think you're making the right choice on cutting back. There aren't any games coming out for PC worth upgrading for in the next year or so. It's seems like it's dried up a bit. I sold my video cards and will be getting a ps3 slim now, so I'm cutting back on PC as well.TheDuffman26

Face it. You were making objective, absolute statements that were proven false, and attempted to completely twist your implications when proven wrong AGAIN. All you would have to have done to avoid all this hoolabaloo is to specify an opinionated argument from the start, which you failed to do, so there's no blame on us for tossing that link at you.

Guys, if you bother to look at the list, the majority of those games are MMOs, MMO expansions, Sims games, or RTS games. What else does PC have? Nothing. PC gaming is a niche market nowadays, full of games that no one plays and no one cares about (but hey, they get high scores on Gamespot!).
