PC gaming is not a generation ahead.

Great, I love my 580gtx and the Witcher 2+Crysis. But I see them in full 1080p and I don't say "Wow I'll never see these visuals on a ps4" Cause I will.

To me the pc right now is in that middle ground, while consoles are low. For example, if I go play Uncharted 3, witcher 2 obviously blows it, but it isn't a generation ahead.

Not from the ps1 to ps2, and not ps2 to ps3.

It seems like you just arbitrarily stated that they aren't. Anyway, I don't doubt the technology is, but it takes games to be more advanced as well, which is gonna be hard on large budgets, and wanting to appeal to the widest market.

Previous generational jumps were moving us to this point of realism. Now a generational leap instead of being 16bit -> 32bit, something you notice as dramatically better, we are talking: lighting, textures, size of world, AI, etc.

While a screenshot might look *similar* to the untrained eye of a console/PC game, to someone that follows technology and gaming graphics is pretty obvious that there is at LEAST a generation jump between your 580 and a PS3.

Just like a SShot of CS vs CSS from a distance looks similar, while in game its like "whoa, big difference".

Other things like physics and AI play a huge role in advancing possibilities, is generations ahead on PC.

Well I can be as exajerated as Hermits, no? If going by the past, when the 360 came out it wasn't till 2007 when crysis came out that we say pc gaming regaining it's throne. That's almost 2 years.

only crysis was, and it shows. every game now is made to be a multiplat, including the witcher 2. crysis is old now, and it is still the best looking. If devs did a game like crysis now, then we would in fact be atleast 1 generation ahead.

I dunno, ask Crytek. They managed sales of over 5 million through Crysis and Warhead, which a lot of people struggled with anywhere near maxing upon release.

I know, I bought a HUGE bundle of games during the Steam summer sale and I love PC gaming too, but I feel like we get a bad name because of some people. Its like when I tell people I like 24 and they assume I'm a pro torture conservative, or when I tell people I'm a BF fan and they assume I spend my free time trolling CoD forums and articles.

I mean developing a game to take advantage of the latest PC hardware while being operable on low end PCs ..... Crysis made it, but not quite, the game isn't the same on low settings ..... the point is, PC gfx will really shine, when there is a game that is really developed to work on high end PCs only, but since they aren't plenty, PC gaming will always feel not so advanced from consoles, especially with console optimization.

A game like Uncharted 3 is perfect example of why the PC is not a genreation ahead. This level is showing us things that PC games aren't even doing. Console games on a fixed machine keep evolving and rivaling top tier PC games. Their is nothing on PC that is a generation ahead of what I just showed. Let's remember how big a generational gap is.

Anyone who thinks the PC is a generation ahead of the consoles in terms of software is kidding themselves.
