Some people around here are too lazy to read the OP (no matter how short it is) so you might want to change the title.

"What's more, in the emerging markets of China, Korea and Russia, where gaming is seeing unprecedented, explosive growth, console install bases are negligible, and the PC is king. Valve thinks that there's a silent majority of global gamers who are skipping the console era entirely, the way these developing nations already skipped dial-up internet."

I like this, seems like worldwide, the gaming industry is booming in the PC sector.

PC gaming is the past, present and future.

It was around before the Playstation, before Xbox, it has seen many consoles born and die.

If the gaming market crashed tomorrow PC gaming would still be here; if Microsoft died PC gaming would still survive because it is is independent of companies, independant of ownership, it has no roots to cut so it cannot be killed.

As long as there is an open platform personal computer for programmers to work on, be it nerds in their bedroom or international companies, PC gaming will exist.

why does the link make you compose an email when you click on it?

anyways, i don't think that PC will become mainstream any time soon, but the PC's probably getting more support in this time.

By the way, Audiosurf > Any recent PC game.

I think they are more comparable to Mac's, locked down proprietary systems where the producer dictates what you can do with them.

By the way, Audiosurf > Any recent PC game.

A one man development team produces a game that ends up a great hit, a success story that could only have happened on PC.

At one point in my life I actually wanted a high-end gaming PC. Then I figured that the cost of upgrading my PC every 3 months is too much for my wallet to cope. PC gaming isn't for everyone. I also think that PC gaming is just too depressing. I currently own a dimension E250 and at the time of purchase, it cost me about a gran. It's not just the price of the hardware it's the software that's just not convincing enough for me for me to invest even more money. I'll stick to console gaming for now, and if PC gaming isn't any easier on the wallet in the near future, I stay with console gaming for good.

you don't have to upgrade it every 3 months or so (unless you're of course, exagerrating). then again, i can't deny that it's expensive. i spent roughly that much on my PC and it runs Crysis on low, but i got mine back when my rig would have been considered better.

Wrong buddy. You actually have to upgrade every 3 weeks now. It's mandatory. Didn't you get the memo!?

That is how the mainstream console market works though. The new one comes out, the last one is dumped (in the sense of game developing for the consoles). The only exceptions have been the PS and PS2. And with the PS2, it is still going strong two years after the PS3's release. Heck Persona 4 is due near the end of this year here in NA.

Those 'cherry picked' stats are from DFC Intelligence, console users favourite quoting source to argue console game sale quantities over PC.

Now that they are showing some good figures for PC they are suddenly untrustworthy?

Piracy will force many developers to leave the PC market. Companies aren't going to invest heavily in a product when the expected returns aren't nearly what they could be. We need a DRM that not only satisfies end-users but also protects IP's. The only thriving market as far as PC gaming goes will only be MMO/MMORPGS. Alot of hermits act like 2 yr olds being forced to take their medicine. We need some type of DRM if this market is ever going to get better. Right now, it isn't in my opinion. Would you want to see more software-in-a-box type games decorating retail shelves and bargin-bins or see something truely revolutionary? Consoles will bleed the PC market dry. We brag about our framerates, our detailed environments and high resolutions but on a std/hd tv (which consoles are quite able to handle), you can't tell the differences between a PS3 and a high-end PC without a magnifying glass. consoles will be the future.

That's because they are multiplats...

Take a pc exclusive like Dawn Of War II or Crysis and try that under a magnifying glass, yes?

A pc is not a dreamcast, it does not die. It will be around in the future regardless.

He's obviously counting every gameing PC connected to a gameing server so thats how his numbers are so high.

Gh0st_Of_0nyx

Again this is DFC figures he is quoting here; they are a neutral source that gathers hard statistics, valuable information that many companies are willing to pay for. If their information was inaccurate, for example if 80% of that number went online once a month, then they would be falsely reporting on a none existent market.

DFC is a highly respect information source within the industry, they didn't become that making statistical mistakes your average forum goer can spot.

And again why do console users treat DFC as an unquestionable source to be quoted as proof, unless their figures are to the benifit of PC gaming then in which case you find them questionable?

You know what else is fail ? the fact that you didnt take the time to read how the TC posted a new FIXED link so that I could read the article (and still disagree)
Gh0st_Of_0nyx

Don't you consider how people read the article before the fix? Clicking on the link was broken, cutting and pasting it into the browser was not.

snipbulletwitch1

Piracy, when people run out of arguments against PC as a gaming platform. Should I start factoring in mod chipping when making judgments on consoles as a gaming platform?

Posting on SW is not a good case for having a life. We do not take a break from gaming to post on SW to "get back to life".

Everyone above the poverty level owns a PC so it makes sense there will be games available. But PC's main draw, power, is becoming a moot point.

How many people in SW are posting on something other then a PC?

PC is the generic platform. I do not mean that in bad way.

If consoles die you won't have anything to feel special about. So, be careful what you ask for.

That is what Im saying...You actually took the time to post when you should have been playing your marvel of a gaming machine....:)

Hypocrit.

If you have that many games, and the consoles "are the awesome" ... then why are you here attacking PC gamers whatever chance you get? exactly.

Why SHOULD I have?

 I have a life you know. I can't game all the time, and sometimes I feel like taking a break...

I mean, for god's sakes, looking at your sig, you should know what I'm saying.

I'm not using posting on SW as a case. I'm saying it's good if I want to take a break from playing. Talking about games is fun for me, because gaming is my favorite hobby.

No, my friend, having a job and going to school are good cases for "getting back to life". It just so happens that I do both.

It's funny because every new console is just trying to become a PC.

Look at the features on the box, they're just trying to become a PC but be smaller, the bullet marks on the box just list every feature a PC has except it's overall worse.

-Hey you can browse the net! but it's slower and less accesible
-You can chat with friends
-You can play high def games (although on worse settings than a half decent pc)
-You can store music and videos on your hard drive

etc. etc.

All consoles are becoming is worse versions of PCs and to say consoles will kill PCs is so MESSED UP it's actually hilarious and annoying people actually believe it... it's like someone creating a slower, crapper version of a car and it completely replacing the perfectly capable modern day car.

I just kind of thought of something....PCgamers are always dissing consoles and trying to get consolers to switch to PC..Here is a thought.....The Xbox/360 are like PC's...They are made by MS...MS kind of owns all pc'ers and pc gamers as we all pretty much us Windows right?

A pc can do many things, where as a console does only a couple. But they are both MS products really...PC gamers use Windows mostly....Xbox/360 is made by MS...Its all intertwined...Its all MS ..

The games are easily made for both systems because they are so close to one another...The good thing with consoles though, is its easy to use, plugNplay, You dont have to worry with spyware, adware, viruses, bluescreen of death, installing 10gig games taking up precious hdd space, using a MIC is easy...NO installing programs and trying to figure them out to use MIC...They are the same.....but better at gaming as they are just easier...

Im not slaming PC gaming but just trying to bring PC and console closer....They both have goods and bads...BUT...look at how much easier a console is...I love pc's..I build them and mess on them all the time..But for gaming, I have to go with consoles every time..

you can't tell the differences between a PS3 and a high-end PC without a magnifying glass.consoles will be the future.

Kez1984

That's because they are multiplats...

Take a pc exclusive like Dawn Of War II or Crysis and try that under a magnifying glass, yes?

A pc is not a dreamcast, it does not die. It will be around in the future regardless.

Playing Crysis on very high settings crush anything on the PS3 including MGS4. My new PC crushes the PS3!

The only problem I have with the PC system is that I can't play a lot of my old PC games on my new PC.
