Seriously I've tried to get into the whole PC gaming scene, but I can't. Its too screwed up, and now I understand why despite its excellent games it will never be mainstream.
1. No standardization of quality. On every Xbox 360 Call of Duty 4 will run pretty much the same. On PCs there is a great variation between how games run (duh, but read on), and this will alienate a lot of consumers. Sometimes its just completely friggin random. Two people can buy the exact same desktop (same gfx card, processor etc.), and for one of them Crysis will run on high, and for the other it won't. People don't even know what they are purchasing.
2. The online scene. Honestly, when wanting to play against friends its harder than freaking friend codes. And how hell can I get booted out of my own server, thats just annoying and makes no sense! Honestly who would rather mess with this, than just party up with friends on XBL
3. Flash games. Most of them are more fun than you're standard MMORPG, so why would people upgrade their PCs and pay 40 dollars and then a monthly fee to play Age of Conan on their comp when they could play Max Dirt Bike, which is 10 times more fun, infinitely times cheaper, and 100 times less of a time commitment.
These games do not however compete with the console market. Consumers can recognize the difference between high quality console games like GTA and Halo 3 and madness interactive, but paying more for a game that will be running on the same platform and is such a time commitment just seems irrational to them.
4. Geekiness. Honestly could you possible imagine any of the popular kids in your grade sitting down and playing the Witcher?
So in conclusion I am right.
