Yeah, I've been a strong PC defender, and still am, but I have to admit it: PC is in a really, really bad state.

I've been following Microsoft press conference, and they have convinced me: they completely abandoned the PC. Zero Games for Windows announcements.

I mean, what the hell is wrong with that company? They own Windows for gods sake.

Sure, some of you PC defenders will say, "but PC doesn't need Microsoft". Well, guess what. As I PC gamer I surely wound't mind if Microsoft started caring about my gaming needs as they care about needs of a Xbox gamer. I wanna feel respected, and this kind of behaviour from their side is surely completely disrespectful.

Less games that use the forced and crappy GFW it's not really that bad. Besides what exactly did they announce that threatens PC?

Wouldn't they only announce PC games using GFWL? As it sucks, I doubt many are implementing it (could be mistaken).

Either way, I wouldn't worry about PC. It's been around throughout every gen.

MS abandoned the PC a long time ago. PC has been doing great and always will. It really doesn't need MS...think about the biggest games on it? Empire Total War, Crysis, Diablo, Starcraft, Stalker, Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2, Witcher, Supreme Commander, Warhammer DoWII, etc. None of which are MS games.

I really don't see the point to saying "it needs to close". It can't close...PC started gaming and always will be here. It's an open platform hence it cannot close.

Add to that the growing list of PC gaming studios owned by MS that have been closed down and their support for PC gaming is dying fast.

Okay, sure, it won't close. There'll always be some form of gaming available on the PC. But I don't want that casual crap like flash games, hordes of World of Warcaft clones and their epic suckage, etc.

I want more blockbuster exclusive titles. I don't want to wait six fricking months or more in order to play X multiplatform game. And honestly, I'm sick of those strategy and MMO games.

A game doesn't need to be published by Microsoft, but I wouldn't mind if the game was at least supported and marketed via Games for Windows. Sure, Games for Windows Live is an epic fail, but Games for Windows live as a platform is a great idea.

Anyway, as I PC gamer i feel completely disrespected and abandoned. I'm sick of it and it honestly breaks my heart.

... Wait what does Microsoft have to do with their games? 99.9% of pc games out there have at best a louse affiliation directly with microsoft.. There are only a handful of games of GFW.

Its probaly the piracy thats driving companies away from PC games. Pirated PC games are now so easy to get. System games are expensive even though they are not that different from PC games. They are a safer buisness investment.

Of course Games for Windows aren't games by Microsoft. Only two or three GfW games were games by Windows. But GfW brings recognition to PC. It brings order to chaos which currently PC honestly is.

Anyway, if it is just viral marketing campaing, they even stopped pulling it off.

Late to the party....I was feeling like that years ago. Used to be you'd see the most amazing graphics/new thing for the PC that would blow anything else out of the water just about every year with the hardware to actually play it like that following 6 months later (hehehe)....After Crysis everything hit a brick wall, suddenly even if they showed something better we'd have to look at it for 5 minutes before we'd notice the difference....and probably have to pay $600-$800 for the new graphics card. They started to take a big step back technologically on the new games because less and less people bought them (hell Empire Total war's graphics was basically the same as Medieval 2 with a few DX10 effects thrown in) and now almost all you see is a slightly better looking ports from a console. The big name games have all moved and you should too...

Microsoft not announcing anything regarding GFW doesn't necessarily mean the PC is in a state of trouble. GFW isn't a publishing deal, they don't own the studios, etc. I would venture to say Microsoft, at this point, doesn't know half the upcomming PC games like the rest of us. If they don't know them, they can't bloody well buy them out for GFW can they? Just wait.

Just wait? Right. Okay, when and where will they announce something for GfW?

CES? Sure, they'll announce something. Probably some cool Windows 7 features like all new DirectX 11 3D pinball and, dunno, Solitaire with Pixel Shader 5 effects. I can remember they did just that at the CES 2007 or something with Vista.

Games Convention? It's dead. Now it's dedicated only to online entertainment and casual crap. And it'll probably be filled with the standard crowd, Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo, again excluding anything that has to do with PC.

What's left?

Like I already pointed out, GFW doesn't mean Microsoft is the publisher of these franchises. The real publishers behind these games don't want to turn over their ability to disseminate information at their whim by buying into this GFW stuff. By allowing Microsoft to use GFW for their titles, they give them leeway with marketing. Publishers don't like that. The reason we didn't see much GFW announcements is because most of those are hammered out after the games themselves have been announced at some point. The publishers want to be the ones telling people about the game and building hype. Microsoft not announcing GFW games DOES NOT translate to lack of games.

And again you didn't answer on my question :)

The only problem is, most of the publishers are 80-90% tied with some of the console manufacturers, which leads to a fact that being a publisher of a PC-only titles is really difficult today because you get zero support from a "manufacturer" which actually doesn't exists. Unless you are, of course Blizzard and/or Valve.

That is because most of the people that end up publishing PC games are either EA or indie publishers looking to make a few dollars like Stardock. People like Stardock, when they start out, don't have the money required to purchase the floor space at E3, which takes a lot of money. That is the reason PC games have never been announced at E3 in bulk, nor will they EVER be announced at E3 in bulk. PC games are announced at developer conventions, CES, and peice meal through the media. That is how it has always been, that is how it will always be.

i wouldnt be worried TC. sure it would be nice to see MS support the PC a bit but the PC really doesent need MS to back it. the only thing that has me worried on the PC front is that it needs a voice. its doing the innovative and cutting edge stuff....its just that someone needs to get the public up to speed. the PCGA need to start stepping up...or they need to step aside and let someone else do it.

ah .. How coudl I live without MS not supporting PC gaming  I see PC Gaming doing fine without MS ... If I wanted MS lame games i would have bought a Xbox360. In fact I would prefer that they reduce their involvement even more and they stop their GFW and GFWL stuff and just stick with dx11

Also, if Microsoft owned PC gaming there wouldn't be the PCGA. Windows gamers hate Microsoft because of the fail known as GFWL. Microsoft doesn't get money from GFWL or from the games sold, therefore, they naturally have less interest in it. People aren't going to buy Windows for gaming. They're going to buy Windows because of everything else it does.

ah .. How coudl I live without MS not supporting PC gaming  I see PC Gaming doing fine without MS ... If I wanted MS lame games i would have bought a Xbox360. In fact I would prefer that they reduce their involvement even more and they stop their GFW and GFWL stuff and just stick with dx11naval

It's funny how you PC supporters constantly claim "oh, but we don't need anyone to stand for us", and yet when Valve or Blizzard say something glowing about PC you all guys start a little forum party.

Of course PC gaming would be fine without MS. What did MS do anyway? All they did was make the OS that let you play those games, that's all.

oh the PC needs a voice allright. just not MS...they have other priorties. an organsiation like the PCGA needs to step up and start shouting. heavens knows there always plenty to shout about on the PC. theres always something happening....a new upstart dev with a kewl idea or a new piece of tech that could be really kewl. the porblem is that at the mo...no one outside those who follow PC gaming actully know.

they dont but they do get lots of media coverage and public attention. it wouldnt do the PC any harm to get some more media coverage and public attention.
