I was thinking about purchasing the Xbox One X bit a friend told me that I could build a more powerful system in the form of a gaming pc. It would be great for some advice on the topic.

It's gotta be Redcu_Ab, I'm sure of it.
Also I agree. Go Mobile gaming, it's the future of gaming!
@Pedro: excuse me sir, Sony fannies are not playing games, Sony fannies are playing one FREE game, H1Z1 and making a big deal out of it cuz it got 10 million users.
To be fair, that game is pretty good. I know this is System Wars, but you should try it.
Dont buy a system for the power/specs , buy it for the game library.
I'd check out the libraries of all the systems, and go with the one you are most interested in.
Dont make the same mistake as me 2 years ago and just assume that PC gaming is default the best. I built an OP i7 980Ti gaming rig in early 2016 and after 2 years I went back to console gaming (Ps4 + Switch). Personally , It was great the PC played games so smoothly and beautifuly but I was often bored of the catalog of so many indie games, RTS games, simulator games. There just wasn't enough in the vein of intersting exclusive content to keep me busy with PC and I just ended up mainly playing overwatch and a select few other games I couldve played on cheaper systems anyway.
And I also found out during this time period, that I'm not even a hardcore gamer , I spend a lot of time traveling during the weekdays and then visit friends on weekend, so the Switch and Ps4 are much more portable than my huge PC tower. And none of my friends have rigs that are anywhere near as strong as mine so I cant just login my steam profile and download/play the games at their house either.
At least my PC hasn't gone to waste though . Having this really fast desktop is MUCH preferable than your standard laptop or your overheating, poorly designed , and overpriced "gaming laptop" .
if price isn't a big concern, put together a PC. But you will never build a PC for the same cost as an xbox without cutting severe corners and ending up with a really nerfed PC. Very high video card prices and DDR ram prices keep this very hard to do this past couple years.
A high end gpu alone will cost more than an xbox.
Prices are coming down. I saw a 1080 GTX for $509.99 the other day
